— Winston |
Winston is a lumberjack at the Burne Lumber Company, who first appeared in the episode "Downpour".
Biography[]
Forest Fire[]
In "Downpour", Winston and his brothers, Ford and Dood, were working at the Burne Lumber Company, when they suddenly ran out of gas. They discussed the matter with their boss, Leonard Burne, who suggested they use electricity instead. However, unbeknownst to anyone, a spark caused by the wires started a forest fire that quickly expanded. When the fire got out of control, Winston, Ford, and Dood tried to put it out with water, but were unsuccessful. They ran away from the logging town, but a burning tree fell on the road, blocking their way out. They were carried to safety by a camouflaged Feathers, much to their shock. Soon after, they were picked up by Olivia Kullersen and Philip Baker, two employees of Rakke Corp who arrived with a van. Winston tried to explain the strange situation he was in, but both Olivia and Philip believed the three were affected by smoke inhalation. As Olivia was driving everyone to safety, they intersected with Leonard Burne, who was going back into the fire.
Meeting the Dragon Club[]
In "Punishment and Torcher", Ford and Winston go to the sinkhole to mourn Buzzsaw thinking he was dead but actually make fun of him, however as they leave Buzzsaw drags them and forces them to work for him in helping capturing dragons.
In "Scent of a Dragon", when Buzzsaw finds the Snifflehide he has Ford and Winston rope it by it's neck to hold it down however they struggle as the dragon proves to be quite strong for them to handle, also they get a little confused when Buzzsaw talks about a tapestry in which he explains what it is too them. When the Riders arrive Buzzsaw orders Ford and Winston to stop them but then get knocked away by D'Angelo and Plowhorn in which Webmaster pins down Winston against the ground, and when Buzzsaw gets disgusted by Eugene's cologne Ford and Winston actually like and compliment it. When the Snifflehide breaks free and knocks away Buzzsaw Ford retreats with him and Ford. Later after rescuing Eugene from the Snifflehide Buzzsaw shows up with Ford and gloats how he'll steal the Snifflehide's eggs in which Winston also states what a tapestry is to the riders for no reason, Buzzsaw orders Ford and Winston to take them and they do so calmly knowing the riders won't risk harming the eggs. When Buzzsaw starts to get chased by the Snifflehide the Riders intimidate Ford and Winston making them leave the eggs and go help Buzzsaw.
New Job[]
In "Sledkin Stakeout", Buzzsaw makes himself some sour dough in which Ford and Winston want to have some too but he doesn't allow them too. When the riders arrive thinking he caused an explosion Buzzsaw orders Ford and Winston to mount up on their new gronckles ready to attack but they struggle too. After the riders leave Buzzsaw dosen't bother dealing with them as he wants to eat and as Ford and Winston ask to have some of the bread he denies them off it.
In "Poison Control", when Ford and Winston return from trying to capture Dragons they return empty handed which annoys Buzzsaw but they protest saying the Riders interfered and then told him about the Book of Dragons which gives Buzzsaw the idea to steal it. When the Riders rescue a Hobgobbler from one of Buzzsaw's traps they find out it's an ambush as Buzzsaw, Ford and Winston begin shooting at them with poison darts and when Buzzsaw shoots Thunder Ford and Winston gloat with him and Winston also tells Jun that Buzzsaw does have a sophisticated palate, Ford and Winston then leave with Buzzsaw after the demands he makes. Later after Buzzsaw betrays Tom and gives him a fake antidote for the Book Ford and Winston grab Tom and hold him to the ground capturing him. When Buzzsaw is about to kill Tom with a Dart, Feathers shows up and knocks him away so Ford and Winston try to shoot her but she knocks them back but when they get up, then all are knocked back when Thunder and the other riders rescue Tom, when Ford and Winston try shooting at them again Jun comes in and deflects their darts with her shield and tricks them into shooting each other. When Buzzsaw makes off with the Book he leaves Ford and Winston poisoned but D'Angelo was kind enough to give them the slugs to eat to cure them but they found them disgusting and weren't happy to eat them but they did.
In "In Too Deep", after Buzzsaw tracked down an Octofin he had Ford and Winston tie it up and use their Gronckles to lift it out the water but when the riders arrive and surround them Buzzsaw orders them to drop the Octofin to allow them to escape in which they do. Later at Buzzsaw's Camp Ford and Winston are busy minding the chimney forge, when Buzzsaw gets annoyed that the Riders keep ruining things for him Winston tries to encourage him but he throws a fish at his face.
Losing his Gronckle[]
In "Hobs and Saw", when Tom manages to sneak into Buzzsaw's camp and get the Book of Dragons Ford and Winston come by talking where Winston says that Buzzsaw loves Jack and hates them but when Ford hears Tom they both go on high alert. When they don't find anything think that they were just hearing things and walk away until Tom sets off a noise trap in which they grab crossbows and shoot at him. When Buzzsaw returns he orders them to get his ballista and then they both push it to him.
In "Hearts of Heroes", while Buzzsaw decides to deal with Tom and Jun he orders Ford and Winston to handle the other riders and Winston even assures him he can count on them but Buzzsaw knows he can't but they're all he has, when he leaves they both notice the Gronckles then wander off leaving them to deal with the riders alone. While looking for their Gronckles Winston makes little sounds to lure them and tells Ford it's a term of endearment but then they get discovered and captured by the other riders. Eugene tries making them reveal all their secrets but they act unamused when he threatens them with the dragons who act unthreateningly, but are willingly to tell them everything when Alex threatens them with Feathers. While Eugene interrogates them they talk about random unhelpful facts about Buzzsaw which Eugene tries comparing to himself but after getting fed up D'Angelo demands they tell them what Buzzsaw is planning however they stay silent but when Alex shows them a recording of them making fun of Buzzsaw's height and eyebrows and become scared as she threatens to show Buzzsaw this, so they give up everything and tell the Riders where he is. Later after Buzzsaw gets ambushed by the Riders and the Woodchippers and retreats he fins them tied up to each other and as they try to explain and argue with each other Buzzsaw is annoyed with them and leaves them to find their own way back and threatens them to find their dragons first, they then go looking for their Gronckles without knowing that they were behind them tall grass behind them.
In "Eugene's Lean Mean Extreme Dream Team", while Buzzsaw and Sledkin negotiate a deal Linda makes conversation with Ford and Winston saying Buzzsaw seems nice but Winston agrees with Ford as he sarcastically comments that him being nice is when he lets him and Winston eat every once and a while. When a flare goes off Buzzsaw order Ford and Winston to go with him to see what it is. As the rest of the Riders arrive to rescue Eugene and Webmaster Buzzsaw and Sledkin have them surrounded with Ford and Winston on their Gronckles, but as the Riders fight their way out D'Angelo and Plowhorn blast them both.
In "404 Alex Not Found", when Buzzsaw captures Alex and Feathers Ford and Winston block her escape route then tie up Feathers to prevent her escaping or using her sonic blast, Buzzsaw asks Winston if north is different from regular north where Winston states it isn't but corrects him saying the direction he's pointing too is east however Buzzsaw snaps at him when he proves him wrong. Later before Alex takes Buzzsaw to the silver maze he asks if Feathers is properly secure she knocks over Ford in which Winston backs away saying the sonic blast is. Soon later when the Riders show up and hide Ford questions if they tied the rope hard enough but Winston assures him they have, Thunder tries to distract them by dancing however they don't notice him and Winston is too wrapped up in whether bees are animals or not but when they do notice Thunder they chase after him giving D'Angelo and Jun the perfect opportunity to shoo the Gronckles away. Thunder escapes them and re-joins the others to free Feathers and take off but as they get back to their Gronckles but find them flying away leaving them stranded in the Crystal Realm.
Turning Himself In[]
In "Science vs. Nature", as Buzzsaw leaves for another scouting mission to captured dragons Jörmungandr attacked Winston asks if Buzzsaw needed help but declined when his boss says his job had never been easier, although like Ford Winston was concerned thinking Jörmungandr would come by the Camp until Buzzsaw tells them to use the ballista to fight it off if it comes by, which Ford gets confused by until Buzzsaw grabs his face and reminds him of it. As Buzzsaw leaves Winston asks his brother if he remembers how it works but he doesn't. Later as Jun does recognisance around the camp to steal the ballista she's almost hit with an arrow as Ford and Winston try practising using the Ballista but when they couldn't see the arrow they almost find Jun while looking for it fearing they'd be defenceless or Buzzsaw would get mad at them again. While reloading the Ballista Feathers tricks Ford and Winston by mimicking an Ice Terror and when they hear squawking they fear that it might've gotten out of the cages so when they go to check, however due to Tom and Jun's arguing they give away their location to the henchmen and when they're about to use the Ballista on them Alex orders the dragons to stop them in which they get cornered by Thunder and Feathers and Wu and Wei drop a net over them. As the riders take the Ballista Ford and Winston surrender and beg to take them away fearing what Buzzsaw will do to them if he finds out they failed, so as they take them back to ICARIS Alex leaves them in the net hanging off one of the crane hooks over the fissure for Philip to come and arrest them. They also asks for food since Buzzsaw doesn't let them eat much.
Physical Appearance[]
Winston is a middle-aged man with short brown hair and hazel eyes. He wears a dark blue sweater with a white jacket over it that has yellow fluorescent patches, and blue jeans.
Relationships[]
Leonard Burne[]
Leonard Burne was Winston’s employer when he, Ford, and Dood worked as lumberjacks for the Burne Lumber Company. Like his brother’s, however, Winston didn’t enjoy working for Leonard due to his constant verbal abuse of trio, along with his unstable mentality and arrogance. Also like his brothers, Winston was unimpressed with Leonard’s chosen name of “Buzzsaw”, showing that he didn’t take his former employer very seriously and only worked for him for payment. Buzzsaw’s foolishness and instability twice nearly resulted in Winston and the others’ deaths when his unsafe logging methods resulted in a massive forest fire that destroyed the logging town, and later when the mad owner nearly collided with the rescue van they were in while attempting to save the town from the blaze despite the obviousness of its doomed fate.
Following the destruction of the logging town, Winston and his brothers severed all ties with Buzzsaw, no longer having any reason to put up with him. However, he and Ford still paid their respects to Buzzsaw upon hearing of his supposed death at a sinkhole, as he at least provided Winston and his brothers with a stable job.
After being abducted by Buzzsaw and enlisted to help him hunt Dragons, Winston showed no objections to his boss's greedy intentions and thus followed all his orders.
Ford and Dood[]
Winston is shown to love his two brothers and gets along well with them, having grown up together before working with one another as lumberjacks. When they were all trapped in the forest fire in “Downpour”, rather than abandoning one another in a panic, the three brothers stayed together and looked out for each other before being rescued.
Feathers[]
In “Downpour” when Winston and his brothers were trapped in the forest fire, the Featherhide dragon Feathers rescued them from the blaze and carried off to safety where they were found and evacuated by Dr. Kullersen and Chief Baker. During this rescue, however, Feathers remained invisible which left the trio unaware that a dragon had saved their lives, instead believing it to have been a supernatural force. Despite their shock and confusion at what had occurred, the three brothers were shown to be grateful to whatever had saved them from the fire, with Winston calling it a “miracle”.
But even after Seasons 5-7, having teamed up with Buzzsaw to dominate the Hidden World, he considers her and the other riders his enemies.
Olivia Kullersen and Philip Baker[]
During the forest fire, Winston and his brothers were evacuated from the area by Dr. Olivia Kullersen and ICARIS Security Chief Philip Baker, who braved the fire in an attempt to rescue the trapped loggers. Like his brothers, Winston was grateful to the two ICARIS staff for their lives, though neither one believed their stories about the “supernatural force” that rescued them, believing them to be delusional from smoke inhalation.
Dragon Club[]
Despite Buzzsaw mistreating Winston and his brother they do see the Dragon Club as a threat and enemies plus don't hesitate to try and kill them for their boss. Even though the Dragon Club see them as threats and enemies as well D'Angelo was at least kind enough to give Ford and Winston the slugs to eat to cure their poison.
His Gronckle[]
Thanks to Buzzsaw, Winston has his own dragon to ride. But unlike Buzzsaw, Winston seems to treat his Gronckle with kindness and respect. In season 7, his Gronckle runs off leaving him to search for it in the tall grass and later does it again leaving him to search for it in the Crystal Realm.

Trivia[]
- During one scene in "Downpour", Winston's skin tone is changed. This has been confirmed by John Tellegen to be an animation error due to the different lighting of the scene in a conversation with Audrie Greywind.
- This later happens again in "Poison Control", "In Too Deep", and "Hobs and Saw" for very brief scenes.
- Despite being different races Buzzsaw states that Ford, Winston and Dood are brothers so it's most likely the three are related through adoption.
