Biography[]

Early Life[]

During her college years, Sledkin attended university with fellow geologist Olivia Kullersen with whom she had developed a personal rivalry with. During this time Sledkin lost her dream of winning a Vetlesen Prize to Olivia, causing her to develop a strong jealousy and dislike of her fellow scientist. After college, both ended up working for the same corporation, the Rakke Corp, though they remained constantly at odds. During Olivia's travels, Sledkin would often attempt to discredit her findings and take all the credit for herself, though her attempts always ended in failure. Despite this, Sledkin became one of the corporation's top scientists.

Opposing Olivia's Ideas[]

In "Fault Ripper", Sledkin arrived at the ICARIS station after she found out that Olivia was planning on detonating the fissure in an attempt to stop the frequent earthquakes. She opposed the idea, as she believed it was too dangerous and was notably more concerned with the potential financial loss than the risk to human lives. However, May Wong, the director of ICARIS, approved of Olivia's plan, much to Sledkin's dismay. She later watched as Olivia and Security Chief Philip Baker descended into the fissure using a probe and created the explosion. After the mission proved to be successful, Sledkin begrudgingly congratulated Olivia.

Exploring the Kullersen Fissure[]

In "Magma Breather", Sledkin announced to Olivia that she was to make maps of the caves in sector 2 of the fissure, while she was checking out a deposit of quartz in sector 9. However, after finding out that Olivia was wrong and the rocks were not in any way important, Sledkin decided to follow Olivia and Tom into sector 2. When she got there, she overheard Tom wanting to confess something to his mother, and claimed that everything that was found in the fissure belonged to the Rakke Corp. The three of them went deeper into the cave, only to find a river of lava flowing towards them. While they fled, Sledkin tripped and was nearly caught by the lava, but was helped up by Olivia. The two of them kept running while unknown to them, Tom rode ahead on Thunder and cleared the way ahead. They soon caught up to Tom when he was on the ground crossed a pitfall where the lava could not cross. Despite having been helped by her rival, Sledkin remained scornful towards Olivia and Tom, telling them that chaos always followed them, before leaving the cave.

In "Downpour", Sledkin was summoned alongside Olivia, May, and Philip to ICARIS' control room when a massive forest fire began ravaging the forests near the station, in the area of the small logging town of the Burne Lumber Company. When Olivia and Philip volunteered to journey to the area around the fire to help evacuate the loggers, Sledkin vehemently objected, not willing to risk company property and legal liability without any credible evidence of anyone being in danger. Fortunately, Sledkin was distracted by May, so that Olivia and Philip could sneak away with one of the station's vans. Later on, after the fire began moving towards ICARIS, Sledkin chastised May for helping Olivia and Philip, only for the director to insult Sledkin's value of wealth over human safety, much to her fury. Later that night, Sledkin was with May as Linda announced that the fire had been extinguished, much to her shock and confusion.

Searching For New Minerals[]

In "Ride or Die", Sledkin found Olivia standing outside the station, where Olivia showed her a strange green mineral that she found in Sector 2, which, to their amazement, is harder than a diamond, the hardest known material in nature. Becoming determined to find more of these crystals and profit off of their discovery, Sledkin then assembled her team of miners and began searching the cave systems within Sector 2. They found a cavern with a blocked entrance because of a heap of boulders, and Sledkin ordered her miners to dig through it, believing that more crystals were just behind it. Unknown to both her and her team, however, the cavern led to the Crystal Realm of the Hidden World. Watching them from the other side through a hole in the rock pile were the dragon riders D'Angelo Baker and Alex Gonzalez, who attempted to undermine their efforts and drive them away. Even after the riders made it seem like the cave was unstable and dangerous to mine through, Sledkin, unconcerned for her team's safety, ordered them to press on. However, utilizing Feathers' cloaking ability, the riders were able to trick Sledkin's team into believing the cave was haunted, causing them to runaway in terror. With her team scared off, Sledkin was forced to abandon searching for the crystals for the time being.

In "Empty Fireworm Nest", Dr. Sledkin was assigned by the Rakke Corp to study a specimen of a new species of lizard (in actuality a Fireworm dragon), called Glowmer that had been discovered by two of the company's biologists, Carla and Hazel Gonzalez. After Linda delivered the dragon to the research center, Sledkin immediately took it to her lab, eager to begin her examination and to take credit for the new species' discovery. Before she could even lay eyes on the creature, however, the base suddenly entered a missile attack drill, which was actually caused by Alex when she hacked into ICARIS' computer systems. Because of this, Sledkin was forced to abandon her examination of Glowmer, allowing the dragon riders to retrieve him. Unfortunately, while complaining to Chief Baker, Sledkin noticed Glowmer's container on the ground outside the facility and attempted to retrieve him, only to have her path blocked by Hazel and Carla, who distracted her long enough for their daughter Alex and Jun Wong to retrieve Glowmer and return him to his flock.

In "The Sky Torcher", Sledkin joined her rival Olivia in studying a newly formed sinkhole in the forest near ICARIS in the hopes of finding more of the green crystals. However, upon their arrival they were confronted by Leonard Burne, also known as Buzzsaw, the owner of the land for which the sinkhole resided on, who demanded to oversee their activities or else report them to the authorities for trespassing. To Olivia's discomfort, Sledkin agreed to his terms, but became increasingly uncomfortable around him due his volatile personality and mental instability, especially when he accused them and the Rakke Corp of unleashing a "lightning bird" for which he demanded information about. Having no idea what he was talking about, both Sledkin and Olivia hastily continued their research of the sinkhole, eager to finish up and get away from the unstable lumberjack. After they finished their observation and failed to find any more crystals, both made a hasty retreat from the property, with Sledkin especially eager to get away from the increasingly volatile Buzzsaw, fearful that he could have turned violent against them should they have stayed any longer.

Pursuing Olivia[]

In "The Night Lights, Part 2", she finds Olivia leaving her house believing she's sneaking out to look for more Dragonsite. Though Olivia claims otherwise, Wilma knows she's hiding something. She enlisted Linda to spy on her and keep her posted on where she's going, but her plan fails as Chief Baker takes Linda to do work elsewhere. Thus, preventing her from discovering what her rival is up to.

Closing in on the Dragons[]

In "Scent of a Dragon", when Olivia finishes cleaning up the lab Sledkin confronts her knowing she's keeping a secret however at first she acts nice stating Olivia didn't tell her about the gossip going over about Linda and Murray's relationship. But when Sledkin is about to leave she threatens Olivia to never keep secrets from her.

In "Sting It On!", as Tom and Olivia were having dinner Sledkin interrupts them and asks for Olivia's notes on the sinkhole thinking that since Buzzsaw was so crazy about the area she thinks there is Dragonsite in it so starts to expedition into it. Later she recruits Philip to assist her and as they're about to get ready to go Sledkin becomes annoyed at D'Angelo and Jun for distracting Philip making him take an online certification lesson about the winch which halts the expedition. When Philip is done with the lesson Sledkin is ready to go however Jun then distracts her talking about a theory in one of her published books which Sledkin couldn't help but brag and gossip about. When Philip reminds Sledkin that they don't have a lot of time left she then heads out with him to the sinkhole, eventually they get all the gear set up and Philip lowers Sledkin down into the sinkhole using the winch and a harness. When Sledkin hears a Speed Stinger she becomes worried and orders Philip to bring her back up. However she gets stung by the Speed Stinger she becomes completely paralyzed and is taken to the sick bay where the venom slowly wears off, Philip believing she was bitten by a cave snake.

Falling to Her Death[]

In "Of Gods and Monsters", Wilma manages to capture and subdue Plowhorn, and plans to use her to find the Gods' Realm, and collect more Dragonsite. She drags the dragon to her hidden science lab, and threatens to use an electronic baton if Plowhorn doesn't do what she says. Sledkin has also apparently gone nearly insane, becoming obsessed with finding the Dragonsite Gem, and even sets a trap that could kill the Dragon Riders, should they try to rescue Plowhorn, claiming that it would be a "tragic accident". While she uses Plowhorn to sniff out the Gods' Realm, the Dragon Riders help Buzzsaw heal Jack, who has been hurt battling Jörmungandr. After nearly losing his dragon, Buzzsaw redeems himself by revealing where Dr. Sledkin may be holding Plowhorn. However, they arrived too late, as Dr. Sledkin continues to force Plowhorn to lead her to the Gods' Realm; but the riders find Linda instead. Revealing that she no longer wants to go any further with Sledkin's plans, Linda gives them her phone number so they can track her down. Sledkin finally reaches the God's Realm, and comes across a large piece of glowing Dragonsite at the center; but it is hung above a deep trench, and a large dragon breathing fire at it. As she tries to take the gem for herself, two Gembreakers try to stop her, but Sledkin fights them off, just as the Dragon Riders show up. Tom demands Sledkin to surrender and step away from the gem, which she refuses until she gets what she wants. Sledkin manages to remove the Dragonsite Gem from the center, causing all the other Dragonsite gems to stop glowing, which meant that the one she has taken is the ultimate source of oxygen for the Hidden World. The dragon in the trench then comes out, and begins fighting the Dragon Riders, as Wilma tries to make her escape. However, Tom and Thunder quickly stop her, and try to reason with her, but Sledkin refuses to listen to reason, and only cares about achieving glory. Without oxygen, the weakened larger dragon falls back down into its hole, causing the ground to shake, which made Sledkin slip and Tom tries to pull her back up. However, Sledkin refuses to give up on her prize, and tries reaching for the Gem, which made it harder for Tom to hold on to her. Tom quickly starts to lose his grip on her, then Sledkin slips and falls down to her demise.

Physical Appearance[]

Dr. Sledkin appears to be woman of possibly Asian decent in her late thirties to early forties. She has thin black hair that reaches down to her shoulder, but with the front-left side of her head being shaved, and the back part falling down the back of her neck. She wears a long-sleeved black shirt underneath a light purple vest, dark grey jeans with extra pockets on the sides, long black boots, and light purple gloves. She also has two black diamond shaped earrings in both her ears and is occasionally seen wearing black sunglasses.

In "Deep Freeze", she wore a reddish-purple winter coat with three golden triangle pins on it and a matching winter hat, and her earrings are golden pearl shaped.

In Season 7 and 8, she wore a reddish purple shirt and pair of pants with a black three-quarter sleeve jacket and brown boots.

Personality[]

Dr. Sledkin is shown to be an arrogant and self-righteous scientist. According to her personnel file, she will do anything to get what she wants, indicating that she is a ruthless and greedy individual. As noted by Olivia, Sledkin has a fondness for being in the spotlight, possessing aspirations of personal glory and recognition. This was proven when she attempted to seize credit for the Fireworm Glowmer's discovery, intending to have all the recognition for the discovery of a new species all to herself after she completed her examination of him. Sledkin can also be quite intrusive of Olivia's business, especially when it comes to exploring anything inside or outside of the Kullersen Fissure. She will forcibly insist on coming along with Olivia, hoping that whatever Olivia finds, they will find it "together", when in actuality, whatever they would find, Sledkin will take all the credit for the discovery, further showing her determination to be in the spotlight. This need for glory extends to the point of self-delusion. When Sledkin claims she discovered Dragonsite when it was actually Olivia, she claims that the discovery belongs to her because she continued research into the material.

While she usually presents herself in a fairly composed manner, Sledkin does possess a temper, which is usually set off when someone credits her rival, Olivia, or criticizes her for her lack of morality. When angered, she can even be physically abusive towards those working under her, namely Linda. She also seems to possess a rather dry, and at times rude, sense of humor.

She possess a strong loathing for her fellow Rakke Corp scientist Dr. Kullersen due to her jealousy and anger at always being second best to her. This causes her to try and discredit Dr. Kullersen at every turn, and whenever the company favors her over Olivia during an assignment, she will always rub it in her rival's face. Sledkin's resentment for Olivia is so strong that she remained completely ungrateful towards her rival for saving her life from the Magma Breather's lava flow. She will, however, admit when Olivia is right but only begrudgingly.

Sledkin is very loyal to the Rakke Corporation and prioritizes the company's profit over everything else, including people's lives. This was seen during the massive wildfire outside of ICARIS, when she was unwillingly to let Olivia and Baker use the Rakke Corp's helicopter to help evacuate the area, arguing that it was unacceptable to risk company property and money without solid evidence of people being in jeopardy. Overall, Sledkin possesses a fairly indifferent attitude in regard for the lives of others. Upon her arrival at ICARIS, Sledkin seemed more concerned with the lawsuits the company would face if any of the ICARIS workers were to perish if the station collapsed, rather than any actual care for their lives. She also displayed little emotion when Olivia and Philip Baker were in peril caused by the Fault Ripper dragon, indicating that she would possibly have preferred her rival to have perished, and with no regard for Baker's life. She has also shown little care for the safety of those who work directly under her, as seen in "Ride or Die", when she repeatedly sent her team of miners to work under increasingly unsafe conditions, all for the sake of finding new and potentially profitable mineral deposits.

She also seems to be careless about the concerns of young people and is quick to act rather than think first, as seen when she finally saw Thunder and the other dragons and darted down Thunder with a tranquilizer thinking he was trying to destroy the generator. She also looked quite upset when the dragons were revealed to ICARIS right before she could say anything, or falsely accuse them of causing trouble.

After the secret of dragons was revealed to the Rakke Corp personnel, her darker side came out as she was quick to exploit the dragons for her personal pursuit of knowledge and fame, not caring about the physical or emotional harm she caused the dragons by disrupting their ecosystem as she stole dragonsite from a Deadly Nadders' nest, or used terrible terrors in her experiments. But she was foiled by the dragon riders and suspended by May Wong for her unethical experimentation. But that increased her desire and greed even more as she, despite being contained in her dome house, continued her illegal dragonsite mining by digging her own secret hole in her house under her rug so she can sneak into the dragon realms without suspicion. As she used explosives to continue mining when it resulted the Dragon Club being buried under boulders.

Despite being shocked and even remorseful for burying the kids and wanting to save them, she quickly chose to deny her fault and leave them. Then everyone turned against Sledkin for this and for how little regard she gives for the lives of both dragons and humans next to her personal gain, so she and Linda escaped in a stolen van.

After being exposed, Sledkin drops what few morals and restraint she had and became zealously determined to achieve her goal of fame and fortune. She teamed up with the unstable Buzzsaw and was more than willing to kill the dragon club whenever their paths would cross or to use Eugene as her hostage to threaten May Wong. Her obsession with glory would erode her sanity to the point she resorted to kidnapping and torturing Plowhorn to bring her to the Hidden World's source of oxygen so she could remove it to kill all dragons and excavate Dragonsite unimpeded. In the end, her greed reached the point where she was unwilling to prioritize her own life, and it led to her undoing.

Abilities, Talents, and Skills[]

  • Geology: Dr. Sledkin is one of the Rakke Corp's leading geologists. However, her skills are always second best to her rival Dr. Kullersen, which has proven many times when her theories tend to be proven correct over Sledkin's.
  • Exploration: Dr. Sledkin has shown herself to be a highly capable explorer, who is unafraid in personally exploring dangerous cave systems personally rather than leaving it to her staff.
  • Biology: Dr. Sledkin seems to possess significant knowledge and skills in the science of biology. It was for this reason that she was selected by the Rakke Corp to analyze the Fireworm Glowmer after the small dragon had been captured, despite it having already been discovered by Hazel and Carla Gonzalez, two capable biologists.

Relationships[]

Olivia Kullersen[]

Wilma and Olivia went to college together and became rivals, competing over a dream to win a Vetlesen Prize. Olivia won which led to Sledkin developing a strong dislike and jealousy of her. Despite being colleagues, both being employed by the Rakke Corp, the two still remain at odds, only working together because they have to. Olivia claims that Wilma "always loves the spotlight", seeing her as a selfish individual who only performs her work for fame and acknowledgement. Sledkin, in turn, seems to constantly disagree with Olivia's theories, considering her reputation to be exaggerated and her ideas foolhardy. She has also criticized Olivia for being focused solely on the safety of people and not the company as a whole, including the lawsuits that emerge if she is wrong.

Wilma does little to hide her contempt for her rival, even in public. When Olivia suggested that detonating explosives in the fault line would stabilise the area and stop the earthquakes, Dr. Sledkin immediately disagreed and attempted to discredit Olivia by stating her belief that such an action would collapse ICARIS and Rakke Town into the chasm. Sledkin also showed little emotion when it seemed Olivia's life was in danger, possibly indicating that she personally would not have minded if she had died. When Olivia's plan seemed to have worked, Sledkin was visibly disappointed that she was once again proven incorrect by Kullersen and only begrudgingly admitted that her rival was right.

After the dragons are revealed in Season 6, Sledkin uses them as a distraction so she can secretly mine dragonsite and do unauthorized experiments on it as well as dragons like terrible terrors. When Olivia learns of how Wilma went against her suspension without being noticed, as well as how she set off an explosion causing a cave in on the kids, she became angry with her rival, but also blamed herself for showing her discovery of the crystals that Sledkin wants credit for.

Because Olivia knew her for a long time, she knew Wilma's greed and thirst for power would overtake her mind and lead to her demise, which indicates that Olivia still worried about Sledkin's well-being and cared about her deep down.

May Wong[]

May Wong and Wilma Sledkin

Dr. Sledkin and Director Wong.

May Wong is a colleague of Dr. Sledkin's in the Rakke Corp, with the two having worked together for an unknown number of years. For the most part, the two seem to possess a fairly stable working relationship and are able work efficiently together to solve the issues occurring at ICARIS. Despite this, however, Sledkin and May are not friends, nor do they personally like each other. Their dislike for one another is primarily derived from both May's favoring of Olivia and their different philosophies on the values of human life vs company profits. While Sledkin prioritizes the Rakke Corporation's finances over people's lives, May will always bend the rules and risk the company's welfare if it means saving a life. Their differing philosophies came to a head in "Downpour", when May reprimanded Sledkin for her greed and amorality, to which the doctor took great offense too.

When the dragons are revealed, Wilma began doing experiments with dragonsite and some terrible terrors that caused harm. Once May learned of her "unauthorized experiments", May became furious with Wilma, and soon decided to suspend her from her work until she could align with the team's vision. But Sledkin secretly went against May's demands and tunneled under her floor to get to the dragon world. When May learned of what she did, as well as causing an explosion that caved in the kids, May became even more angry, but was too late to fire Sledkin when she and Linda stole an ICARIS van to escape.

Tom Kullersen[]

Dr. Sledkin became acquainted with her rival's son, sometime during his and Olivia's travels together before coming to ICARIS. The two have been shown to share a mutual dislike towards each other. Sledkin has been shown to think little of Tom, seeing him as nothing more than a troublemaker and speaks to him in a demeaning manner by calling him “Young Tom”. In addition, she also seems to underestimate Tom's abilities as an explorer and climber, simply because of his age. Tom meanwhile dislikes Sledkin, due to her constant quarrels with his mother and her attempts to undermine her reputation. It is also because Sledkin claims that everything found in the fissure belongs to the Rakke Corp, and that she only cares about making money, he did not want to reveal the existence of the dragons. Even when Olivia insisted on telling the adults about the dragons in "Deep Freeze", Tom's worry about what Sledkin would do increased as she shot Thunder with a tranquilizer and made him fry the generator. But those worries decreased when he and his friends revealed the dragons to all of ICARIS before she could leaving her speechless and upset. She used the time of the riders helping ICARIS live with dragons to secretly and illegally mine dragonsite. Tom's suspicions of her grew even more seeing how she was harming dragons carelessly to get what she wants. He foiled her plans twice now. Despite her escaping, Tom was determined that they will be ready to stop her at any cost.

In "Heart of Glass", she believed he would be just like his mom and rescue her but was rather impressed by the fact that he didn't because he didn't trust her. Tom's dislike for her grew even more when she's teamed up with Buzzsaw to translate the Book of Dragons. In "Of Gods and Monsters", he despised her for her greedy ways as she abused Plowhorn into locating the Gods Realm so she could steal the Dragonsite Gem for fame and money. As she slipped on the stand, Tom tried to save her. But she refused to give up the gem to pull herself up to safety, which only caused her to slip out of his grasp and fall to her demise. He mourned for her loss after that, indicating he still cared about her well-being despite her previous actions.

Linda[]

Linda is a worker at ICARIS who occasionally works under Dr. Sledkin. Sledkin is shown to have a low opinion of Linda, considering her incompetent and will get upset whenever she compliments her rival Dr. Kullersen. As shown in "Magma Breather" Sledkin's dislike of Linda can cause her to be mildly physically abusive towards her.

Despite her abuse, she has begun asking Linda to aid her in her dirty deeds, like following Olivia and reporting where she goes (which was cut off when Phil helped Linda look for work to do), and helping her mine dragonsite from the Hidden World. Out of all the workers, Linda appears to be the most loyal to Wilma. That is until "Of Gods and Monsters" when Sledkin captured Plowhorn and abused her into finding the Dragonsite Gem of the Gods Realm. Linda, seeing how unwell the young Gembreaker was, decided it was too late to protect Wilma and quit working for her by giving the riders her number so they could locate her.

Philip Baker[]

EFN-219-Phil-Wilma

Dr. Sledkin arguing with Chief Baker.

While little conversation has been seen between them, Sledkin seems to hold the ICARIS chief of security in low regard. This is possibly because of his friendship towards Olivia and how he favored her idea on how to stop the Fault Ripper's tremors over Sledkin's, upon her arrival at the station. Since her arrival at ICARIS, Sledkin has often argued with Baker on a number of occasions, with the two maintaining a personal dislike of each other.

When Baker and Olivia were in danger from the Fault Ripper's assault, she showed little emotion, let alone concern, for Baker's safety and expressed no relief when he and Olivia were safe. Later on, Baker defied Sledkin's orders to refrain from partaking in evacuating the area outside of ICARIS during a massive wildlife. This implies that Baker, like Olivia and May, is disgusted by Sledkin's greed and her placing the value of money over people's lives.

Leonard Burne (Buzzsaw)[]

T9R-The Sky Torch-Olivia, Sledkin, Buzzsaw (1)

An uncomfortable and perplexed Sledkin listening to Buzzsaw’s delusional ramblings

Sledkin, like everyone else who encounters him, has a very negative opinion of the lumberjack Leonard Burne, also known as Buzzsaw, regarding him as both a lunatic and an idiot. Sledkin first encountered the former head of the Burne Lumber Comapny when she and her rival Olivia had unknowingly stumbled onto his land while investigating a newly formed sinkhole. Though she quickly realized that Buzzsaw was mentally unstable and considered him a "nut", Sledkin nonetheless complied with Buzzsaw's demands to look over their search for the minerals, so as to prevent him from reporting their trespass and causing any legal concerns for the Rakke Corps.

As Sledkin and Olivia's search went on, however, Sledkin became increasingly uncomfortable being around Buzzsaw, due to his continued ramblings about a supposed "lightning bird" and his baseless accusations towards them and ICARIS of being responsible for the creature. This caused Sledkin to immediately develop a disliking of the unstable lumberjack and was extremely eager to get away from him as soon as she and Olivia finished their search, while also showing signs of fear that he could have turned violent against them if she and Olivia had stayed any longer.

They meet up in Eugene's Lean Mean Extreme Dream Team where Buzzsaw offers her a deal that if she helps him read more of the Book of Dragons and take over the Hidden World, she can have all the Dragonsite she wants. True to her opportunistic nature, she instantly agrees. She even showed him the page of the book she pictures of that revealed the Dark Realm and Jörmungandr.

In Season 8, she becomes more obsessed with finding the Dragonsite gem of the Gods Realm, that she takes her attention off of him and she loses his respect while her hatred for him only grows. When Buzzsaw learns that she captured Plowhorn, he gave the riders the location of her secret lab so they could find her, indicating his hatred for her grew while his disrespect for the riders has diminished.

Carla and Hazel Gonzalez[]

Like with most of the staff at ICARIS, Sledkin possesses a negative working relationship with Hazel and Carla, two of the station’s biologists, with the two disliking her for her greed and arrogance. Sledkin, in turn, seems to think little of them and is unafraid of exploiting their research for her own ends. This was shown in “Empty Fireworm Nest”, when Sledkin attempted to use her examination of the Fireworm dragon Glowmer in an attempt to seize credit for his discovery, even though Carla and Hazel were the ones who found him.

Sledkin’s dislike for the married couple would grow further when, much to her annoyance, both continuously pestered her with their concerns regarding the examination during her attempts to retrieve Glowmer’s container outside the research center, unaware that they were actually distracting her so that their daughter Alex could retrieve the Fireworm and return him to the wild. This not only ruined her attempts to examine the dragon, but also foiled her plans to achieve the recognition and wealth she desired within the Rakke Corp. Since then, Sledkin has developed a grudge against Carla and Hazel.

Jun Wong[]

In "Sting It On!", Jun and Wilma have their first brief interaction (even though it was really a distraction) when Jun wanted to ask her about her beliefs in mythical cities like Atlantis. Wilma happily offers to share her beliefs about it in a book about her adventures. This could be evidence that they both like hearing mythical stories, even when no one else believes them.

When Wilma learns the truth about dragons, she attacks them when the kids were trying to get the generator restarted. Later, she tries to expose the dragons, but is upset when she sees that Jun and the other riders beat her to it. She even tricked Jun into bringing her to the Hidden World to gain more information about certain dragons so she can run some harmful tests on them and get more dragonsite. When Jun began to see more of Sledkin's cruel nature, she came to hate the geologist as much as Tom and Olivia, especially now that Wilma has teamed up with Buzzsaw.

In the season finale, Jun was extra concerned when she learned from Linda that Sledkin kidnapped Plowhorn and forced her to find the Dragonsite Gem in the Gods Realm, the realm where all the oxygen is produced for the Hidden World. But when Sledkin fell to her demise, Jun consoled with Tom and Thunder as if she felt sad for her loss.

D'Angelo Baker, Alexandra Gonzalez, Eugene Wong[]

Sledkin’s first real interaction with the Dragon Club occurred in "Fault Ripper", when she gave an unamused and somewhat condescending glance towards D'Angelo when he began to awkwardly laugh after his father and Olivia had returned from their mission in the Fissure. This may imply she thinks very little, if anything, regarding the other children at ICARIS.

Unknown to Sledkin at the time, however, the Dragon Club riders had secretly undermined a number her research efforts whenever they came close to discovering the Hidden World or the existence of dragons, something for which has caused the doctor much frustration during her time at ICARIS. Such incidents include Alex and D'Angelo scaring off Sledkin's mining crew when her search for new minerals brought her dangerously close to the Crystal Realm, and later Alex and Jun stealing/rescuing Glowmer before Sledkin could examine him and learn the truth of what he was. Like Tom, the other riders seem to be well aware of Sledkin's greedy nature and see her as the most dangerous of the Rakke Corp's employees if the dragons were to be discovered, knowing full well that she would attempt to abuse their existence for the sake of profit.

When the Dragon Club are trapped under a large rock shower (indirectly her doing) she is horror-struck and attempts to move the boulders, but once she realises they are too heavy, she refuses to take responsibility for the accident, showing that she puts her self image above her morality.

Thunder, Wu and Wei, Plowhorn, Feathers, Webmaster[]

After Wilma catches the dragons in "Deep Freeze", she hits Thunder with a tranquilizer dart that spooked him into frying the power generator, and Feathers uses her sonic scream to knock her out. She then tried to expose him and the others about to claim that they were trying to hurt everyone, but she paused when she saw that the kids beat her to it. Since then, not only has her dislike for the teenagers increased, but also for their dragon friends. In return, all the dragons dislike the greedy geologist, especially when she did unauthorized experiments on Terrible Terrors and when she caused a cave-in in the Hidden World where she was illegally mining dragonsite.

In "Of Gods and Monsters", in an attempt to find the Dragonsite Jewel, she captures Plowhorn to aid her. Her greed only made her believe dragons being good was a phony belief. And she didn't care if the dragons suffered from oxygen loss to escape with her prize. When she fell to her demise, Thunder, though angry for what she tried to do, still felt remorse for her loss, but was also relieved Plowhorn was okay.

Trivia[]

  • Dr. Sledkin is the first human antagonist in Dragons: The Nine Realms.
  • It is possible, based on her interactions with Tom in "Magma Breather", that Sledkin may possess a dislike of children in general, due her demeaning comments towards Tom based on his youth.
  • According to her personnel file, Sledkin's employee number within the Rakke Corp is 3626.
  • In “Empty Fireworm Nest”, Sledkin was assigned to conduct the biological examination on Glowmer, despite being a geologist. This would indicate that she is actually a biogeologist, a scientist who studies not only the geologic forces of the planet, but also how those forces affect biological life.
  • Sledkin is the first and only human character to die in the series.
