Biography [ ] While chasing Amos at the Northern Markets , Hiccup and Snotlout find themselves on what appears to be an empty beach. Snotlout is then suddenly grabbed by a dragon tail and pulled underground along with Hiccup. During their fall, a Sandbuster, the dragon that caught the boys, roars at them. Below the surface, in a cave, Hiccup and Snotlout discover the Sandbuster's lair, full of treasures and bones. They also find Amos, who has been caught by the wild dragon too. While the Sandbuster was walking through its nest, Amos attacks it. The dragon immediately starts firing at the humans, considering them a threat. When Snotlout trips he accidentally triggers one of the crossbows, that he and Hiccup found earlier, and it shoots an arrow and makes a hole in the roof, the Sandbuster runs away, affected by the direct sunlight. Hiccup then makes a cage for the next time the Sandbuster arrives. Right when the three are about to escape, the Sandbuster attacks. Hiccup then begins making holes in the roof, trapping the Sandbuster between rays of sunlight. However, the dragon is able to escape and re-patches the numerous holes with his blasts. He then quickly brings down the stacked treasure and Hiccup's betrothal gift rolls behind the Sandbuster. Hiccup quickly slips under the dragon to grab the medallion and use it to redirect the remaining sunlight against the Sandbuster. This draws it away from Snotlout and Amos, whom Hiccup tells them to run but Snotlout pulls Amos back as they cannot let Hiccup alone to die, but Amos points out they'll all die if they remain. Suddenly, a glass ceiling shatters as the Riders break through. The Sandbuster is overwhelmed and retreats allowing Hiccup, Snotlout and Amos to be rescued.
When Hiccup goes to the Northern Markets with Johann to search for some jewels needed for the Dragon Eye II , they decide to go to the Sandbuster's lair. Inside, Johann reveals his true nature to Hiccup, who calls Toothless in assistance. The three begin to fight and when the Night Fury fires a plasma blast to destroy one of Johann's Daggers , the Sandbuster comes to see the source of the explosion. The two dragons have a quick fight that ends with the Sandbuster fleeing, and Toothless blocking its way back.
Physical Appearance [ ] This Sandbuster is lime green, with light brown back, pale beige head and belly, rows of a dark green spike on his head, back and tail and pale blue spots encircled by brown dots on its wings. Its eyes are light blue.
Personality [ ] Like the rest of its species, this Sandbuster is fiercely territorial, attacking anyone who enters its lair. However, it cares more about its life than its treasure, as it retreated every time it had to fight a stronger foe. It is also highly intelligent, as it blocked the sunlight (its only weakness) with its blast and knew when Hiccup, Snotlout, and Amos were trying to escape and how to destroy their way out.
