Plot[]
While the dragon club competes in a sledding contest on their dragons in the Ice Realm, Eugene causes a pile up, making Alex the winner. Eugene blames the others for the pile up, claiming that they don't have a deep enough bond to properly control their dragons. The others then argue who has the deepest connection with their dragon, but during the argument, Webmaster disappears. Eugene quickly finds Webmaster carrying a giant blade of grass, and the dragon leads them to a new realm filled with giant plants and creatures. The group considers exploring the new realm from the air, but reconsider when they see a giant dragon flying overhead.
While exploring, D'Angelo discovers territorial markings, and realizes that they have wandered into the territory of a dragon. They are quickly surrounded and attacked by a trio of Deathgrippers. During the attack, Webmaster is stung by the leader Deathgripper while trying to protect Eugene, and seemingly leaves with them on his own will. Believing that Webmaster sacrificed himself to save the dragon club, the others promise Eugene to help him get his dragon back. When they track the Deathgrippers to a cave, D'Angelo comes up with a plan to draw the Deathgrippers out so Eugene can infiltrate the cave and rescue Webmaster. The others struggle to hold off the Deathgripppers on their own territory, and they can't fly because of the giant dragon flying overhead. Eugene finds Webmaster, but the dragon is aggressive towards him, and doesn't seem to recognize him, and then traps him with his webbing.
Outside the cave, Tom finds the page about Deathgrippers in the Book of Dragons. But when he discovers what the dragons are capable of, he realizes that Eugene is in danger. With no time to share what he learned with the others, Tom decides to save Eugene, while the other riders try to stop the Deathgrippers from returning to the cave. Meanwhile, Eugene discovers the sting mark on Webmaster, and wonders if the venom from it is controlling Webmaster. The Deathgrippers return and try to eat the captured Eugene, but Tom and Thunder manage to rescue him on time, and the former confirms that Deathgripper venom places dragons under a type of mind control. Eugene refuses to leave Webmaster behind and tries to get through to him, while Tom and Thunder distract the Deathgrippers. However, one of the Deathgrippers stays behind and attacks Eugene along with a controlled Webmaster.
When Eugene is cornered, he genuinely pleads for Webmaster to hear him, and openly admits that the dragon is his only real friend, and will not leave his side no matter what. Eugene's pleas snap Webmaster out of the venom's influence, and he battles the Deathgripper to protect Eugene. Webmaster defeats the Deathgripper by stinging it with its own tail, and he flees the cave with his rider. The other riders, except Alex, are eventually cornered by the remaining Deathgrippers, and despite Eugene and Webmaster's arrival to help, the other riders' dragons have reached their shot limit. But before the two Deathgrippers can attack them, Alex and Feathers, using the latter's cloaking and sonic scream, scare the Deathgrippers into the sky, where the giant dragon promptly eats them. Taking that as a cue to leave, everyone returns to the Ice Realm, and Eugene challenges everyone to another sledding race, giving himself a head start. The other riders join in, and notice Eugene's more genuine bond with Webmaster, with Eugene even teaching them a deep lesson about how a true bond works.
