Hiccup: "I thought I recognized that sword. That's not just any old sword. That's..."
Astrid: "Viggo's. But if his sword is here..."
Hiccup: "Who brought it here?"[src]
  — Hiccup and Astrid question the sword's presence

Viggo's Sword is a weapon owned by Viggo Grimborn that first appeared in "Maces and Talons, Part 1".

Design[]

The sword is short but rather solid and heavy. The hilt shape is rather simple, but is bejeweled with a row of - presumably - rubies. Viggo often wears his sword in a single holster strapped across his back. The holster is metal and looks like a dragon's head, with a jewel as an eye.

History[]

Dragons: Race to the Edge[]

Season 2[]

Viggo Grimborn uses it to threaten a hunter in "Maces and Talons, Part 1" and is seen on his back throughout the series.

Season 3[]

Viggo is frequently seen with his sword carried on his back, especially in the episode, "Last Auction Heroes".

In "Defenders of the Wing, Part 1" he most likely doesn't have his sword because he's presenting a truce to Hiccup.

Season 4[]

In "Defenders of the Wing, Part 2" there was an error. For most of the episode he doesn't have his sword but in one scene it's on his back. It disappears in the next scenes.

Season 5[]

After Viggo appeared to have died in the volcano on Dragon's Edge, it is rediscovered in the cave of a Sandbuster dragon in the island of the Northern Markets. After their escape plan failed to escape the Sandbuster's lair, Snotlout finds it and pulls it out of a barrel of weapons and tries uses it as a weapon. He later brings it out with him. Trader Johann tries to purchase it, but Snotlout does not want to part with it. Hiccup and Astrid realizes it is Viggo's sword, and the Dragon Riders wonder how it got to the Northern Markets if the previous owner is dead.

At the end of "Sins of the Past", when inserting Heather's lens in the Dragon Eye with Krogan, Viggo is shown to have regained his sword, wearing it once again on his back. How he regained it is currently unknown, but it is possible that Johann (who is revealed at the same time to be evil and working with Viggo, Krogan and the Dragon Hunters) could have at some point managed to either buy or steal it back.
