The Vandals are a very briefly mentioned group of peoples mentioned in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise.
History[]
The Vandals were a real-life historic group of Germanic people existing before the time of the Viking Age. They originated in the area of what is now Poland, and migrated West due to the pressures of larger neighboring peoples. The Vandals eventually ended up in the Iberian Peninsula and Northern Africa and interacted with the aging Roman Empire. They were one of the tribes to have ransacked Rome, and as a result, the term "vandalism" was coined from their exploits in Rome. Eventually their kingdom fell in the 500s after a war with the Byzantine Empire. The Vandal people were absorbed into various other peoples living during that time era.
