Valka was Hiccup's mother, first mentioned in the film How to Train Your Dragon.

While discussing what to do about Hiccup's behaviour, Stoick claimed that the boy got his stubbornness from Valka.
Later, upon finding out that Hiccup was excelling at dragon fighting, Stoick gifted his son a Viking helmet made from half of Valka's breastplate. He then stated that his own helmet is made from the other half and that he was wearing it to remember and honour his late wife.
The next day, after finding out that Hiccup had tamed a Night Fury, Stoick scolded his son for taking the dragons' side, revealing that Valka was killed by them.

Stoick the Vast[]
Stoick was very close to his wife and mourned her deeply after her death. He wears a helmet made out of her breastplate, claiming that it's his way of keeping her close.
Trivia[]
- Dean DeBlois said that while the sequel was "still early days", and thus there had not been any major decisions yet, Cate Blanchett would be his first choice to portray Valka, like Stoick being played by his voice actor, Gerard Butler.
