How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

As you may all know, the How to Train Your Dragon Wiki allows users to leave comments on article pages, with no restriction. However, as comments became more and more redundant over time, the staff of the wiki had a discussion and we have decided to implement a couple of rules regarding commenting on this Wiki.

  1. DO NOT create long and/or pointless arguments inside a comments section. If you wish to discuss a certain subject with one or more users, there are other ways to do so, such as using the Message Walls or the Chat. Not only will this make articles cleaner, but it is also a more efficient way of communicating, as Message Wall send notifications to users, whereas Comments do not.
  2. The How to Train Your Dragon Wiki is in no way affiliated with DreamWorks Animation, Cressida Cowell, or any other official company that created and/or expanded the Dragons universe. Asking us to create dragons, characters or make a new series is pointless, as we have no power to do such things.
  3. The more comments an article has, the longer it takes for the page to load, making it harder for users to edit it, or simply read it. As such, please refrain from adding redundant comments like "I love x character" or "I want to have y dragon".
  4. Theories and reviews/opinions are allowed, however, it is recommended that you a place more suited for them, such as Blog Posts and Discussions. Those features allow better communication between users and are much more organised than the comments.
  5. Be polite and respectful towards others. Don't insult or offend others just because they asked question or made a mistake.

These rules can also be found at the top of each comments section on each page.

Having said this, I will also give examples of good and bad comments, for further understanding these rules.

Example - GOOD ✓

Does she have retractable teeth too?

Yes they do. If you look very closely at the shot where the Light Fury is about to link wings with Toothless, you can see that when she opens her mouth that her teeth are retracted (or at least, it looks that way. When I observed it, all I could see were her gums and not her teeth).

Taken from the Light Fury page's comments section, this comment and its reply show a question related to the information on the page being asked by one user, with the answer to that question being posted by another user.

Example - BAD ✘

it looks like a fat icewing lol

Taken from the Groncicle page's comment section, this comment is considered spam, as it compares a dragon from this universe with another from a completely different universe not related to How to Train Your Dragon and the statement is written in an impolite and immature manner.

Example - GOOD ✓

in appearences last paragraph line 3, it it spelled Beilderbeast instead of Bewilderbeast.

Taken from the Bewilderbeast page's comment section, this comment addresses an error on the page, which was later corrected.

Example - BAD ✘

Is most adorable dragon even more than gronkle and Garffiljorg.

Taken from the Hobblegrunt page's comment section, this comment states a personal opinion, which (in some cases) can create a debate between users. While personal statements are not forbidden, be aware that arguments may happen, and other users might reply with offensive comments. In such case, report the situation to an active staff member.

Example - GOOD ✓

New interview with Rescue Riders Executive Producer Jack Thomas and Co-EP Brian K. Roberts, definitely some info behind the production of the series to add into the article: http://www.animationscoop.com/interview-dragons-rescue-riders-ep-jack-thomas-and-co-ep-brian-k-roberts/

Taken from the Dragons: Rescue Riders page's comment section, this comment links to an interview relevant to the page itself, which couldn't fit anywhere else on the article.

Example - BAD ✘

Awesome

Taken from the Night Light page's comment section, this comment contains only one word, and as such is considered spam.

We are aware that most of the article sections are filled with redundant or inappropriate comments and some members of the staff are already taking care of it. Keep in mind that this action will take time, so do not be surprised if you still see old comments that should have been deleted.

If you have any questions regarding the rules stated above, or if you wish to add more on this subject, please feel free to do so on this blog, or contact any member of the active staff.
