Universal Pictures is the current distributor of the film, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The film was developed by DreamWorks Animation and is loosely based on the How to Train Your Dragon book series. Universal has also owned DreamWorks Animation since 2016, making it the second animation studio owned by Universal after Illumination Entertainment, the creators of the Despicable Me franchise.
