Synopsis[]

Jun forms an unlikely connection with Sledkin.
  Hulu

Plot[]

Jun prepares for a meeting with her mother, which is to convince the latter to let her and her knowledge of myths contribute more to the study of dragons, by practicing her speech in front of the other dragon riders. When Jun heads to her appointment, she encounters her mother in the elevator, and May decides to hold their meeting there since she has a busy schedule. The sudden change of plans causes Jun to be unprepared, and she fumbles her speech. May then decides to reschedule the meeting to deal with other matters, leaving Jun disappointed. On her way out, Sledkin joins Jun in the elevator, and tells her that she can relate to Jun in being pushed aside. Sledkin then tells her that she respects her passion for myths in a scientific perspective, and before leaving, Sledkin asks Jun for her help in exploring the hidden world.

When Jun tells this to the others, Tom and Alex immediately object due to their distrust of Sledkin, but Jun argues that Sledkin is a respected scientist, and sees her as an expert. But Tom adds that his mother has known Sledkin for years, and that she told him Sledkin was more interested in her personal gain than science. However, Jun assumes that Tom is just letting his mother's opinion about Sledkin affect his judgement, and D'Angelo sides with Jun, believing that everyone should have the benefit of the doubt. Tom concedes to let Jun and D'Angelo take Sledkin to the hidden world, while he, Alex, and Eugene stay behind. Once they leave, Tom voices his suspicion of Sledkin's sudden interest in Jun, and decides that he, Alex, and Eugene should investigate Sledkin's office to find evidence that Sledkin is up to something.

Tom's group sneaks into ICARIS to investigate Sledkin's office; and it's in Sledkin's computer where Alex discovers a message from Sledkin to Linda, revealing that Sledkin was the one who stole the dragonsite from the Deadly Nadder's nest. In the Nature Realm, Sledkin convinces Jun to let her take pictures of everything around them, despite D'Angelo's objections, as well lead her to Dragonsite. Along the way, Sledkin encounters a Scuttleclaw, and is warned by Jun about its agitating shriek. When they find a chunk of Dragonsite, and see some Terrible Terrors heating it up, Sledkin documents the Dragonsite's reaction thoroughly. Though Jun is excited that Sledkin acknowledges her, D'Angelo is worried about how much Sledkin is more interested in the interaction between the dragons and the Dragonsite.

When Jun's group returns to ICARIS and Sledkin leaves, Tom, Alex, and Eugene tell Jun everything that they found in Sledkin's computer, and that Tom was right about Sledkin using Jun. However, Jun is angry that Tom went behind her back, and Tom is unable to prove his claims because Eugene accidentally set his camera the wrong way. Jun then argues that Sledkin is just conducting research, but when she misinterprets what Tom said about Sledkin not needing her, she denies his claim and believes that Sledkin actually admires her knowledge, and then walks off upset. At night, when Jun refuses to answer her phone, the other riders head to her dome and alert her that something is causing the dragons to act up. But just as the riders arrive to calm them down, the dragons suddenly return to normal. The group then spots Linda sneaking into ICARIS, and Thunder points out that the source of what was upsetting them is inside the lab. The group sneaks inside the laboratory, and discover an exhausted Terror being held captive in a tube with Dragonsite. They then see Linda and Sledkin conducting cruel experiments using captured Terrors, and a recording of a Scuttleclaw screech from Sledkin's phone, which she took while in the hidden world, to agitate the Terrors into breathing fire on the Dragonsite, and force a reaction. Tom realizes that the Scuttleclaw recording was the reason why the dragons were upset earlier, and Jun remorsefully admits that she showed Sledkin everything she needed to use to conduct her experiments, and that Tom was right about her being used the whole time, making her responsible for the dragons' suffering. However, Tom urges Jun to not give up, and encourages her to help them save the captured dragons; but Sledkin manages to find them.

Sledkin confronts the group, but Eugene distracts her by throwing sour gummies at her, allowing the riders to reach the captive Terrors and free them. When Sledkin tries to stop them, the Terrors try to flee upon seeing Sledkin, and they accidentally knock her phone out of her hands and activate the Scuttleclaw recording, sending them into a frenzy. During the chaos, the phone is destroyed, but the Terrors don't calm down, and fly out of the lab. Sledkin locks the kids in the lab and tries to hunt the Terrors down, but Alex manages to unlock the door, and once they're outside, they see Linda drive off in a van with a cage inside. The dragon club pursues and catches her, but discover she was just a decoy. Sledkin corners the Terrors, but the dragon club return and intervene. Jun tries to reason with Sledkin, believing her actions are out of desperation to prove herself, but Sledkin is indifferent and callously declares she will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals, including using dragons however she pleases. The dragon riders refuse to back down, but May arrives to investigate the commotion. Sledkin immediately demands that the kids be punished for sneaking into her lab and ruining the equipment, but Jun counters her statement by revealing that her experiments are cruel and harming the Terrors. May dismisses Sledkin for doing unauthorized experiments involving dragons, and then tells the riders to bring the Terrors back home. May then demands to speak with Jun, who assures her that she'll keep on eye on Sledkin, and is aware of her cruel nature, but May also reveals that she is more concerned about Jun's safety. Jun is touched by her mother's concern, and May offers to let Jun consult her on dragons so Sledkin can't trick her, much to Jun's joy.
