According to Richard Hamilton, the Tormentipede resembles an oversized centipede with many pairs of legs.[2]

The Tormentipede is said to attach itself to a host with its hind legs and feed off its host's emotions, causing it to behave similarly to the host. The one in The Fire Tides attached itself to Drago Bludvist's left arm stump and acted as a prosthetic arm.
Oxygen Dependent Fire[]
The Tormentipede is said to shoot fire from its mouth, which grows more intense and powerful as more oxygen is available.

Not much is known about the Tormentipede's personality or behavior, but they are said to be able to mirror their host's emotions.

Hiccup encountered this dragon after the Fathomfin brought him to the ruins of a sunken Viking civilization. It was found to be attached to Drago's left arm stump, acting as a prosthetic arm. Drago used the dragon's fire to fight Hiccup and Toothless.[3]
