Toothless is a male Night Fury and one of the two main protagonists (alongside Hiccup) of the film How to Train Your Dragon.

Toothless has jet-black scales, green cat-like eyes, bat-like wings, and two sets of fins: one pair near the base of his tail, and one pair at its end. His left tail is missing, as a result of Hiccup shooting him down with the Mangler. This was later replaced with a prosthetic Hiccup made.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]
Toothless first meets Hiccup in Berk's woods, initially as another dragon slayer before he sets Toothless free, much to the dragon's surprise. Upon getting freed Toothless backs Hiccup against a rock and, after staring at the boy for a second, emits a loud furious roar before the dragon attempts to fly away and disappears into the cove. At first, when Hiccup visited the cove, Toothless wanted nothing to do with Hiccup, but after spending some time bonding, the two formed a friendship. After creating a prosthetic tale for him, Hiccup became Toothless' rider and the two, gradually, became best friends.

- Unlike his animated counterpart, Toothless is not seen during the opening logos. Instead, he is first seen during the opening raid on Berk.
