"The Night Lights, Part 1" is the fifth episode of the fourth season of Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Plot[]
While surveying the Ice Realm to look for any signs of Buzzsaw, Tom and Thunder discover a baby Night Light caught in one of Buzzsaw's traps. Tom frees the baby dragon while it plays with Thunder and quickly realizes that the baby is Thunder's little brother. Tom then decides to take the baby dragon back to their hangout so D'Angelo can examine him for injuries. But unbeknownst to the duo, something big is following them.
Later, in the dragon's lair, everybody, especially Jun, are delighted to see the baby dragon. They decided to name him "Shadow", based on the names that Eugene came up with. Then, while playing, Shadow unintentionally reveals to everybody in the club that Tom had finished making his Lightning Sword, which he keeps mistaking for a chew toy. Unsure of how long Shadow will have to stay in the lair, the club decides to get more supplies from RAKKE town, while Thunder keeps an eye on his little brother. When Olivia noticed the kids taking a lot of supplies, and asks what they were doing, they lie by telling her that they're going birdwatching. Olivia reluctantly permits them to go, as long as Tom comes home by curfew, to which he agrees. When the kids returned to the lair, they find that Shadow is a handful, especially to Thunder, as he is frantic to get out of the lair and back to his family. Tom agrees to let him go back, but quickly realizes that since Shadow is a part of Thunder's family, they'll let Shadow led the way to his home realm, which will finally lead to Thunder's family.
Shadow eventually guides the riders to a cave in the Ice Realm, which leads into a large cavern, unaware that something is following them. The cavern leads into a new realm which has plants similar to the ones from the bottom of the fissure, meaning that they are actually below the fissure. Tom finds a treasure chest and Eugene impulsively opens it, triggering a trap that catches him in a net. The trap also causes an avalanche of boulder, forcing the group to flee deeper into the realm. There, they set off tripwires that fire rocks and a dart, that hits Eugene and temporarily numbs him. Jun wonders if the traps were left by an ancient dragon hunter, but Tom points out that the rocks and darts couldn't hurt a dragon. Eugene triggers another trap, a pit trap, which Tom points out was made to stop humans as a dragon could fly out; all the traps were made to keep humans away. The group reaches the end of the cavern and it leads into a majestic mountainous realm.
They track Shadow down to a cave where they met Thunder's two other younger Night Light siblings. Immediately after finding Thunder's siblings, the dragon club is approached by two angry adult Night Lights, revealed to be the parents of the baby Night Lights. However, when Thunder reveals himself to the adults, the adults immediately recognized that Thunder is their long-lost son, and the whole Night Light family shares a happy reunion. Though Tom believes the situation has de-escalated, the parents are still hostile towards them until they show them that they are friends. Thunder enjoys his reunion with his family, but Tom saddened by the possibility that he will have to let Thunder go if Thunder will choose to stay with his family.
Meanwhile, Olivia, frustrated that Tom had missed his curfew, decides to investigate Tom's true whereabouts using footage from his drone.
In the King's Realm, the riders join the Night Light family as they are summoned by the family's leader: the Elder Night Light. Thunder introduces Tom to the Elder, when Shadow takes out Tom's sword to chew on it, the elder grows mad that he brought a weapon. Tom tries to defuse the situation, but when Shadow accidentally fires an electric blast through the conductive sword, it blasts the Elder. The Night Light family then attacks the group in retaliation for hurting the Elder, leaving Thunder torn by the conflict between his family and his friends. Tom then confronts the Elder, but when he tries to show the Elder that he didn't want to hurt him by dropping his sword, the Elder shoots a powerful blast of lightning at Tom. When the smoke clears, everyone sees that Thunder was able to protect Tom just in time before he was hit by the lightning blast. Thunder and Shadow were able to convince the Elder to spare Tom, but he still decides to make the riders leave. Tom shares a sad and tearful goodbye to Thunder, and then departes the Night Light's realm with his friends, leaving a heartbroken Thunder behind.
Olivia eventually finds footage from the drone that shows the entrance to the dragon's lair, as well as lights and sounds (from Thunder's electrical blasts) coming from inside the lair. When the dragon club returns to the Ice Realm, the other riders console Tom that he made the right choice returning Thunder home. Suddenly, Shadow shows up upset and asks the riders to go back. The riders immediately return to the King's realm, but find that Thunder's home was deserted. The episode ends with Tom worriedly screaming Thunder's name.
