Plot[]

Inside her secret lab, Sledkin is struggling to find the realm containing a dragonsite gem described in a picture she took from the Book of Dragons, when Buzzsaw interrupts her by trying to sell her a Snowtail; but all Sledkin cares about is finding the gem.

Meanwhile, the dragon riders are struggling to take care of all the dragons they rescued from Jörmungandr, with some of them trying to escape from the lair. Unable to send them back to the Hidden World with Jörmungandr still there, Tom decides to hold a fostering event for the dragons at Rakketown. The idea works, with many of ICARIS's residents adopting a dragon, including Carla and Hazel, who adopt Glowmer and some more Fireworms, and even Philip adopts the Magma Breather when he sees it depressed over not being picked, much to D'Angelo's nervousness. Olivia then asks Tom about the foster event, and the latter is forced to admit they are trying to protect them from Jörmungandr. Tom assures his mom that nothing bad is going to happen, but right after he says so, Thunder spots a helicopter, and Olivia gets an alert that Mr. Rakke, the billionaire head of Rakke Corp, is coming to ICARIS.

While Tom tries to hide the dragons, May warns Olivia that Mr. Rakke is skeptical about their lack of progress studying the fissure, and the entire facility could be shut down. Philip decides to hide all the dragons in the station's hangar, and Tom tells May and his mom to stall Mr. Rakke as much as they can. When Mr. Rakke arrives, he explains that his surprise visit is to see how things are actually running at ICARIS, and he assures May and Olivia they have nothing to worry about, as long as things are running smoothly. But when he asks where Sledkin is, Tom quickly answers the question with a lie about her taking a vacation. Then upon meeting the kids, Mr. Rakke shares his sentiments about kids like them being the key to a future where the environment is protected. When Mr. Rakke decides to visit to the station first, Eugene is forced to step in and use his skills in acting to convince Mr. Rakke to take a tour of ICARIS with him first, making a good impression with him. Tom then decides that he and Jun will help Eugene distract Mr. Rakke, while D'Angelo and Alex round up the last of the dragons.

The first stop at Eugene's tour is at the general store, but a stray Terrible Terror nearly gives itself away to Mr. Rakke. After containing the Terror, Tom asks his mom about considering telling Mr. Rakke about the dragons after seeing how much he cares about nature and new discoveries. Olivia, however, opposes the idea, and admits that he was right to keep the dragons a secret from the beginning. She also reminds him that even though Mr. Rakke has done a lot of good, he also personally handpicked Sledkin, and that they don't know his real intentions or what he would do if he learned about the dragons. Meanwhile, May, Eugene, and Jun take Mr. Rakke on a trip through the forest on ATV's, where they have to distract him from a Speed Stinger running around. Their trip, however, is cut short when Mr. Rakke ends up falling off his ATV. At the hangar, everyone is able to get the last of the dragons inside, but realize Carla and Hazel are still watching over the Fireworms in the infirmary. They warn Jun as they take Mr. Rakke to the infirmary, but she can't stop him from entering because he had hurt his arm when he fell of his ATV. Carla and Hazel quickly hide the Fireworms, and convince Mr. Rakke that the heat, made by the Fireworms' presence, is just a heating malfunction.

Meanwhile, the dragons are finally safely secured in the hangar, but when the Magma Breather creates a pool of magma to warm itself, it triggers the hangar's emergency override, and causes all the dragons to scatter. Mr. Rakke hears the override alarm, and immediately rushes to the station, believing that there is a fire. But Alex manages to shut down the alarm, and Philip tells Mr. Rakke that it was just a system test. Tom and the others then hide the other dragons from sight by corralling them inside the station, only for Mr. Rakke to finally start his tour of the building. While Tom takes the dragons upstairs, Alex and D'Angelo use Feathers' cloaking to hide most of Plowhorn, with the exception of her crystal horn, but they convince Mr. Rakke that it is just a crystal they found in the fissure. Tom begins to run out of places to hide the dragons when he and Olivia are stuck in the lab, and Mr. Rakke starts heading towards it, believing that the sounds from the dragons are the results of an experiment. Tom then tells Wu and Wei to create a steam veil to hide the dragons, but when Mr. Rakke is on the verge of finding them, Thunder knocks him out with a lightning blast.

When Mr. Rakke awakens, Olivia tells him he was just caught in an electricity experiment. He miraculously believes the story and is actually excited that he got to be a part of the "experiment". Mr. Rakke concludes his visit, impressed by how well ICARIS is running, and promises more grants for the project. He also gives his praise to the kids, especially Eugene, before leaving. May then hugs her kids, proud that they finally managed to work together; and Tom promises Olivia he will return the fostered dragons. Olivia also promises that he will have her help, along with that of the parents.

Back in her lab, Sledkin grows frustrated that she can't find the realm with the gem. But when she sees Nibbles retrieve a piece of Dragonsite, Sledkin decides she will need a dragon after all to find what she wants.

Trivia[]

  • When Mr. Rakke and the Wongs are riding ATVs through the forest and a Speed Stinger runs alongside them, this is a possible reference to the 2015 film Jurassic World when Owen Grady and some soldiers drove into the jungle on motorbikes with Velociraptors.
