Plot[]

In the Ice Realm, a Snowtail is lure by a whistle made by Buzzsaw and lured into one of his traps. Before he can do anything, a large dragon appears and cuts down nearby trees.

Meanwhile, Olivia shows the kids around the lab and shows them the crystal a newly found sample of the crystal that she found with Tom. Tom accidentally almost gives away the secret when he refers to the crystal as 'dragonsite', but Eugene covers for him and convinces Olivia that he was just referring to the game from 'dragon club'. Olivia decides to classify the crystal as dragonsite and ends the field trip. She asks Tom what he is going to do, and Tom lies that he will be taking pictures using his drone.

The group is worried that the new piece of dragonsite means that ICARIS is getting close to finding the hidden realm. Alex discovers something is setting off the sensors in the Ice Realm and the group goes to investigate. They find and free a Terrible Terror from one of Buzzsaw's traps, for the third time that week, and Tom emphasizes they have to get him out of the Ice Realm. Alex reminds him how unstable Buzzsaw is, but Tom points out they have dragons while Buzzsaw doesn't. They hear a sound and follow it to see if it is another dragon in trouble. Instead of a dragon, they find Buzzsaw's camp, but Buzzsaw is nowhere to be found. Alex finds a group of ice cages holding captured dragons and try to free them, but Buzzsaw returns and reveals he's been using his whistle to lure dragons into his traps by mimicking their calls. Buzzsaw use his call to summon a leashed Timberjack, which he appears to have trained to follow him. Tom refuses to let the group fight the manipulated Timberjack and has them retreat.

Later, Tom observes from a distance that Buzzsaw hasn't bonded with the Timberjack but is using the whistle to control it by using sharp notes to rile it up and low notes to calm it down. Tom comes with a plan to sneak into the camp alone with Thunder, get the whistle, signal the other riders to free the captured dragons, and get Buzzsaw out of the Ice Realm. Eugene objects to the plan and says he should lead the mission because he knows the most about Buzzsaw, but the others turn down his plan. Tom and Thunder sneak into the camp unnoticed and see Buzzsaw leave the whistle unguarded. Tom almost grabs the whistle but realizes it's too easy and stops. Unfortunately, Thunder grabs the whistle triggers a trap that drops a cage on them, and the whistle turns out to be a decoy duck call. Buzzsaw gloats in his victory, declaring himself the 'king of dragons.'

When Olivia returns home after work, she discovers that Tom lied to her when she discovers he left his drone behind. The other dragon riders get worried when Tom doesn't give them the signal after a long time and Eugene insists, they follow a new plan, but the others reluctantly turn him down and decide to wait. When Buzzsaw tries to hurt Thunder, Tom tricks him into thinking he can't consider himself the 'king of dragons' when he can't even ride one. He tricks Buzzsaw into 'making' him train the Timberjack to buy time to get the whistle by giving him bad advice. His attempts to get the whistle are thwarted by the Timberjack's antics during the training and Buzzsaw only ends up getting hurt. When Buzzsaw reaches the end of his patience, Tom is forced to take him flying on the Timberjack. The other dragon riders decide that it's been too long and go to find Tom. They go to the camp when Buzzsaw and Tom are out flying but ignore Eugene's idea to free the other capture dragons before Thunder. Eugene decides to free them on his own, but they think his is another trapper like Buzzsaw and panic. The dragon's cries alert Buzzsaw and he realizes Tom tricked him and throws him off the Timberjack. Tom is saved by the freed Thunder and without Tom, Buzzsaw loses control of the Timberjack. He ends up crashing to the ground and tries to use the whistle to have it attack the dragon club but discovers that Tom switched it with the decoy during the flight. Tom signals the Timberjack to go home, but it ends up taking Buzzsaw with him when its leash gets caught around his waist. All the captured dragons are freed, and Tom is sure they'll get another chance to catch Buzzsaw. Eugene apologizes for doubting Tom's leadership and Tom admits Eugene was a big help.

When Tom returns home, he's confronted by his mom about why he's late. He lies that he was out late with his drone, unaware Olivia know about his lies and is suspicious.
