Termagant was a half-berserk, half-murderous and Fishlegs' mother in the books. Her dragon was a three-headed Deadly Shadow with three names: Arrogance (left head), Innocence (right head) and Patience (the middle head).
She fell in love with Alvin the Treacherous, who was disguised as a fisherman from the Peaceable Tribe. He proposed to her with a lobster claw necklace, that he had taken from the coffin of Grimbeard the Ghastly. After Alvin abandoned her by faking his death, Termagant gave birth to their son, but she was forced to send the baby away since he was a runt. Termagant eventually dies from guilt and sadness.
Her dragon later became Fishlegs' dragon after it reunited with him.
Termagant had a very close relationship with her Dragon, Arrogance, Innocence, and Patience, a Triple-Headed Deadly Shadow. Although her Deadly Shadow couldn’t understand Norse, they still could understand what Termagant was saying. When Termagant had to abandon her newborn, she made the Deadly Shadow promise to watch after it whilst it floated in the ocean. When the Deadly Shadow lost sight of the baby, they searched hours upon hours in the ocean looking for it. When the couldn’t find the baby they were heartbroken.
- Termagant's name means a harsh-tempered or overbearing woman, unlike the character's easygoing and calm temperament.
