Taran Skeptisson is a mentioned character created for the School of Dragons Website[1].

Tracking Down Harald Forkbeard

Taran Skeptisson tries to track down Harald Forkbeard, a notorious thief. He journeys to Auction Island to find out information about him. Auction Island is full of Dragon Hunters and other unsavory characters. Taran has taken the advice of Eret about how to conduct himself while there.

Snarls and gnashing teeth greeted me as I entered the Auction Zone. I was surrounded by enough villains to make even the mightiest Viking’s skin crawl. Poor dragons growled weakly from cages, and a feeble Singetail clawed the bars in a hopeful attempt to escape.
My heart wrenched at the terrible sight, but I kept my brows furrowed and my scowl fierce. I couldn’t pretend to have a soft spot for the dragons. Eret, Son of Eret, had advised me to be tough when dealing with these guys – one hint of weakness and I would be as good as day-old yaknog. I made a silent promise to the poor creatures to free them, but first, I needed information on Harald Forkbeard.
After I track that fiend down, I will dedicate myself to outsmarting and defeating these villains in combat. I will make sure that each and every one of them pays for the pain they have caused these poor dragons. With enough luck, I could be the Viking strong enough to free Auction Island from the shackles of the dragon trade. Instead of a place for criminals to make money on suffering, it could be a haven for Vikings and their dragons. Until then, I must brave the dangers that lurk on cliffs and prowl between bushes.

Learning About Valka

Taran receives letters from his relative, Axel Skeptisson, who is an instructor at the School of Dragons. One communication from Axel talks about the appearance of Valka on Berk and at the School, as well as her history and demeanor.

The newcomer - Hiccup’s mother, that is - is an interesting woman to be sure. A woman who chose humanity over savagery. Only, it was dragons that were human, and the humans that were savages. Of course, the Hairy Hooligans did not have a reason to trust the dragons until Hiccup and Toothless proved us wrong.
Years ago, Valka left, believing that it was impossible for any of us to find peace between the two respective species. She left her family to form a new one amongst the dragons… and Hiccup forgave her. I won’t presume to know much about Haddock family affairs, but that I find quite peculiar. But perhaps Hiccup has inherited his mother’s compassion and understanding.
So we must see her every day. She stands outside the Great Hall, offering her wisdom to all those who need it. And I cannot doubt that she is by far cleverer than most so-called dragon experts, and she is not as wild as one would expect of someone who has spent over a decade with dragons. In fact, Valka has been a great help to Berk and the School of Dragons.
It is because of her wisdom that I cannot fault her for her choices. She has been a great help to our village and the school. I hope you can speak with her one day. Never in my life have I seen a Viking so devoted to dragons. I would even go so far to say that her devotion rivals that of Hiccup’s – And that’s saying something!

With all Glory and Honor,
Axel Skeptisson
