The Spiderwing is a small Mystery Class dragon that first appeared in the series Dragons: The Nine Realms.
Physical Appearance[]
Egg[]
Spiderwing eggs are small and round, being covered with small scale-like black plates.
Hatchling to Adult[]
The Spiderwing has, as its name suggests, a spider-like appearance, including four pairs of long thin legs and two pairs of eyes, one considerably larger than the other. It has a small, flat head, with two large horns protruding from its cheeks, and hair-like structures on the top of it. Its body is relatively oval, and has a shell-like aspect. Its tail is longer than its body, and ends with a bludgeon-like shape full of spikes. It has a pair of wings that protrude from the top of its torso.
Abilities[]
Endurance and Stamina[]
While attached to Jun's head, the frightened Spiderwing resisted her attempts to pull it off, a little electric blast from Thunder and a combined blast from her dragon. One also endured one of Plowhorn's loogie bombs and appeared unfazed.
Fiery Web and Accuracy[]
Spiderwings shoot a fiery web that solidifies in a matter of seconds to trap humans or dragons. This webbing is proven to be deadly traps that are resistant to any single fire-type. Spiderwings have a great aim with their webs.
Social Nature[]
Spiderwings cooperate in order to take down bigger prey and defend their lair.
Sticky Legs[]
If a Spiderwing is stuck to one's head, they will be hard to remove with brute force.
Spiderwings can scale the walls and crystals of the Hidden Realm. They also can climb up their webbing without getting stuck, just like the real spiders.
Intelligence[]
Spiderwings use their webs to seal any exit in their lairs to ensure that nothing escapes and send sentries to take care of any intruder who interrupt their meal. Spiderwings can distract the dragons and turn them away from their Riders.
Weaknesses[]
Combined Fire Blasts[]
Spiderwings can be blown back by combined firepower. It was Thunder who came up with the idea and commanded the other dragons to simultaneously shoot all their blasts in the direction of their trapped riders and by converging all four into a mega blast that destroyed the fire-proof web of the Spiderwings.
Pack Dependency[]
A single Spiderwing can be easily defeated, despite being a challenge.
Behavior and Personality[]
Spiderwings are a sociable species that live in hidden caverns inside the Hidden Realm. They cooperate to subdue bigger prey for them and their offspring to consume. They also cooperate in order to defend their lair against all kinds of threats.

Dragons: The Nine Realms[]
Season 2[]
In "The Tangled Web", the Dragon Club encountered a lone Spiderwing in the Crystal Realm. While Tom and D'Angelo argued about what to do with it, the dragon jumped on Jun's head and remained there. They all then decided to take the dragon to one of the caves full of webs, hoping it would let go of Jun. As she and Alex entered the cave, they fell onto a giant web and noticed more Spiderwings coming out. Eventually, the Riders had to fight an entire pack of Spiderwing, with the dragons realizing they could break the webs by combining their blasts.
In "Follow the Lightning, Part 1", while searching for Thunder in the Hidden World, the Dragon Club was attacked again by a pack of Spiderwings. Feathers used her sonic blast to make them retreat.
Season 7[]
In "Rise of Jormungandr", when the riders travel to the Dark Realm to stop Buzzsaw from unleashing Jormungandr Tom tells everyone to stay alert for Spiderwings and Bubblehorns, Alex worries how to get past them which D'Angelo explains they'll fly low to avoid the Spiderwings.
Trivia[]
- Spiderwings are the first dragons in the franchise to have segmented limbs, giving them a very insectoid appearance.

The Fault Ripper, Bubblehorn, Magma Breather, Flood Fang, and Spiderwing have not been given a class in the show. Could you please shed some light on this?" (Date Posted - July 21, 2022). Twitter.
