How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

The Sparrowhawk is a ship briefly mentioned in How to Speak Dragonese of the How to Train Your Dragon Book series.

Description[]

It is implied, that the Hooligan novices in the Pirate Training Program paired off and built their own small boats. Snotlout and Dogsbreath the Duhbrain paired off and built The Raven during 'Shipbuilding' lessons. It is a single mast boat steered by oars, rather than a tiller or steerboard. It is long and narrow as most Viking longships are, and appears to sit low in the water. Its prow comes to a point, rather than have a more traditional figurehead. It is built of elm wood.

Sparrowhawk was as lean and mean and hungry as Snotlout himself. Beautifully built out of elm wood, she came to a point so sharp at the prow that she sliced through the water as easily as an axe through a scallop.

Appearances[]

How to Speak Dragonese[]

The Sparrowhawk first appears in Book 3 during 'Board-an-Enemy-Ship' lessons on the Sea-Known-As-Woden's-Bathtub. The pairs of Hooligan novices are to board a Peaceable fishing boat, menace the fishermen, and take a helmet for practice. Snotlout and Dogsbreath ram the Sparrowhawk into Hiccup's and Fishlegs' boat, The Hopeful Puffin before starting off to the exercise, knocking the smaller boat off course into the fog.

How to Train Your Viking[]

Snotlout and Dogsbreath use the Sparrowhawk during a Night-Hunting competition. When the two Vikings see a mysterious creature approaching, they scramble to get out of the way and accidentally overturn the boat, losing all their fish.
