Snails are invertebrates mentioned minimally in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise.

Description[]

Snails is a general term applied to mollusks that can be found on land with spiral-shaped shells they can retract in to. However, sometimes the term can also be applied to some sea species of mollusk. Snails are soft-bodied and produce a thick mucus to aid in movement and keeping their bodies moist. Often they will have a pair of simple eyes at the end of stalks that can be folded back into the body at will. Some snails are able to hibernate during cold periods and aestivate during dry periods such as during summer months. They accomplish this by sealing themselves into their shells.

The "Giant Snail" is mentioned in the comic, "Smeltdown". While there isn't specifically a species called "Giant Snail", there is one similar species referred to as the African Giant Snail (Achatina achatina)". As the name implied, it lives in Africa and is the largest land snail species, with a shell growing up to 7.5 inches long.

Function[]

The snail is mentioned in the Franchise only as a food source for dragons, specifically Barf and Belch. In reality, humans eat snails, particularly in Europe and some places in Africa. Snail shells can be used decoratively.

Snails are also a garden and crop pest, which is mentioned in a Farm Job in School of Dragons.

Appearances[]

Dragons: Race to the Edge, Season 1[]

In the episode, "Have Dragon Will Travel, Part 1", Tuffnut Thorston mentions snails when dramatically describing the sea slug.

They're just snails without homes. Giant homeless snails!
  — Tuffnut in "Have Dragon Will Travel, Part 1"

"Smeltdown"[]

In this mini-comic, Tuffnut and Ruffnut become very bored working with Hiccup's new smelting invention, the Flame-Tastic Inferno-Class Firepower-Plus. Ruffnut mentions some creatures that Barf and Belch like to eat, but upset their stomach. Tuffnut wants to feed them all those creatures, which includes giant snail. Eventually, the Twins, in part, are responsible for destroying the machine.

Games[]

School of Dragons[]

Snails are mentioned briefly in a Farm Job asking for Squash and Turtle Eggs.

Phlegma lost her squash crop to snails. This will help and get rid of the garden pests.

It is unclear just how squash and turtle eggs would help rid her garden of snails.

Snail shells are seen in the Expansion "Rise of Stormheart" on the backside of Nikora's mechanical "boss", along with Starfish and barnacles.

Dragons: Rise of Berk[]

A snail is the symbol of the action "Slow Down" in Champions of Berk.
