Physical Appearance[]
Hatchling to Adult[]
The adult Sky Torcher is a large dragon, approximately the same size as a Titan Wing. Its skin is a pure white color, while its eyes have black irises with pale-brown sclera. This dragon possesses four legs, a long neck and tail, and a pair of fin-like structures beside its head that resemble ears. It displays multiple dorsal fins of varying lengths on its head, neck, and tail, along with a prominent sail on its back. Additionally, there are wing-like fins running down the sides of its tail, culminating in a leaf-shaped fin at the end. The dragon also features two sets of tusks, with the larger pair protruding from its lower jaw near the snout and the smaller pair extending from the upper jaw beneath its eyes. Two long horns also emerge from behind its eyes.
Abilities[]
Firepower[]
Sky Torchers are capable of unleashing four simultaneous streams of orange fire in multiple directions against their opponents. Each one of these flames is incredibly powerful, capable of burning through solid rock in a matter of seconds. In addition, the flames are also quite erratic, spreading over a great distance after being released, thus making them capable of taking out several opponents at once.
Magma and high temperature-proof Skin[]
The outer skin layer of Sky Torchers exhibits an exceptional ability to withstand and endure extremely high temperatures. This unique attribute enables these colossal dragons to fully immerse themselves in pools of molten magma without sustaining any harm. Sky Torchers frequently employ this capability to conceal themselves within magma pools, catching their unsuspecting prey and adversaries off-guard.
Strength and Combat[]
The strength of a Sky Torcher, based on their size, is likely to be formidable. We can observe this through the example of a Sky Torcher who, despite being slightly smaller than an Alpha Sky Torcher, effortlessly overpowered the dragons with its powerful wing slap, tail smack, and biting onto Thunder's tail to forcefully throw it aside.
Utilizing its enormous size, it is excellent in combat by using its wings and tail as a whip or flail.
Intelligence[]
In addition to their massive size, Sky Torchers are extremely intelligent dragons. This was demonstrated by one individual, who, like a general commanding troops in to battle, was able to give commands to the Flame Thrower pack it dominated, sending them out to scout out territories before beginning its assault. In "Punishment and Torcher", it demonstrated great compassion for the Flame Throwers under its command, as it ventured to the Ice Realm to get them back.
Speed and Agility[]
Despite their massive sizes and big body frames, Sky Torchers are very fast dragons when in flight, being able to easily keep up with much smaller and sleeker dragons, including Night Lights.
Endurance and Stamina[]
Sky Torchers, a species renowned for their colossal size, demonstrate extraordinary levels of stamina and endurance. Despite their massive body frames, these creatures have the remarkable ability to undertake long-distance flights without the need for rest. Moreover, they possess exceptional physical strength, allowing them to effortlessly penetrate dense minerals such as rocks and crystals. This immense strength also grants them the ability to withstand multiple forceful and agonizing attacks from a variety of dragon species before succumbing to defeat. In their defense, Sky Torchers employ their wings as formidable shields to protect themselves against these assaults. The Alpha Sky Torcher managed to survive great injuries from the Jörmungandr, despite being much smaller.
Tunneling[]
Utilizing their tremendous strength and extreme firepower, Sky Torchers are capable of digging massive holes underground, allowing them to navigate from their habitat in the Fire Realm to other locations in the Hidden World.
Weaknesses[]
Flame Build Up[]
Though Sky Torchers are capable of releasing multiple extremely powerful blasts of flames, it often takes them a certain amount of time to build up the flames within their bodies before releasing them. This can allow particularly fast dragons to strike the Sky Torcher before it can carry out its attack. In addition, during the interval buildup, a massive light will emulate from their bodies showing a bright light path starting at their bellies and going up their necks, letting opposing dragons know of the oncoming attack before it is launched.
Flame Accuracy[]
Despite the Sky Torcher being able to take out multiple targets at once with its impressive firepower, having four streams of flame can be a hindrance as well as an advantage, as it can be difficult to hit smaller, fast-moving dragons, which can weave around and avoid the devastating attacks.
Being Dunked in Icy Water[]
Similar to a young Fire Fury and mentioned by Gobber in the first movie, it is discovered from the Book of Dragons that Sky Torchers don't like the cold, and if their heads are dunked in water, they can't breathe fire.
Jörmungandr[]
The Sky Torcher can be easily subdued by the Jörmungandr, the apex predator to all of dragon kind, as it had no problem dragging the individual Sky Torcher inside the gate before making its escape into the Hidden World.
Behavior and Personality[]
The Sky Torchers exhibit highly aggressive and hostile behavior, making them an exceptionally dangerous species. They display a strong inclination towards territoriality, defending their claimed areas with great ferocity. Any perceived intruders, whether they be other dragons or humans, are met with relentless attacks, leaving no room for negotiation or tolerance.
Furthermore, Sky Torchers occasionally expand their territories by encroaching upon the domains of other dragons, driven by the need for larger prey resources. During these territorial expansions, they forcefully displace resident dragons, often resulting in the displacement of entire populations of diverse species. This has caused them to be greatly feared by numerous dragons throughout the Hidden World.
In regards to interacting with their own kind, Sky Torchers are a solitary species, preferring to live individually rather than in groups. This is most likely due to their highly aggressive nature and drive to establish territorial dominance. Their natural habitats are harsh volcanic environments, in which they usually serve as the apex predators of the ecosystem, occupying the highest levels of the food chain. Within such environments, Sky Torchers will establish their domains at or near large bodies of magma/lava. Similar to that of an alligator or crocodile in water, a Sky Torcher will utilize its heat resistant scales to submerge itself within these bodies, in order to either hide itself before attacking unsuspecting prey and enemies or simply to relax in.
Despite their solitary and aggressive nature, it isn't impossible for a Sky Torcher to establish positive relationships with other species or to be a part of a social structure. This was demonstrated by one particular individual in the Fire Realm of the Hidden World, who served as the alpha of a large pack of Flame Thrower dragons, a much smaller yet similarly aggressive species. However, it remains unknown whether these two species are naturally coexistent or if this individual forcibly took over the pack. As partially proven in "Punishment and Torcher", as the Sky Torcher came to rescue its Flame Throwers pack from Buzzsaw and after the group rescued and reunited them, they left in peace showing its kinder, softer and caring side.
The Sky Torcher is the natural predator of many smaller dragons, such as Timberjacks, Crystal Whips, Night Lights, Terrible Terrors, Featherhides, Gembreakers, Mist Twisters, and Deadly Spinners. Their own only known predator is the Jörmungandr; however, the Fault Ripper is a dangerous enemy too. Despite being an alpha, it knows to respect the dragon that is king over all the realms, as seen in "Ragnarok Part 2" when Thunder became the new Dragon King and the Sky Torcher followed his every command to attack the World Serpent, indicating he respected and fully trusted the young Night Light.
Training[]
Buzzsaw trained the Alpha Sky Torcher with a carved wood whistle to follow his commands. High notes from the dragon call whistle can greatly rile it up, while low notes can calm it down (similar to his Timberjack). Saving this dragon's family or pack can also help make it less aggressive, as the Dragon Club managed to befriend the Alpha Sky Torcher this way.

Season 3[]
In "Ride or Die", when Jun, Wu and Wei, and an injured Terrible Terror were surrounded and about to get attacked by a pack of Flame Throwers, the Sky Torcher roared and summoned for them, causing the Flame Throwers to obey and leave them alone.
In "It Flies in the Family", after the Dragon Club chase the Flame Throwers back into the lava fountain and Eugene and Webmaster seal it up, the Flame Throwers most likely informed their alpha about what happened, in which the Sky Torcher slowly began breaking its way through.
In "The Sky Torcher" a lone individual of the species from the Fire Realm launched an attack on the Crystal Realm, where it was revealed that the Flame Throwers that the Dragon Club had previously fought had been scouting out the territory for their Alpha to take over. When Tom and the Dragon Riders investigated the source, they encountered the Sky Torcher when it arose from the magma, and it forced them all into retreating after firing at them with its multiple fire blasts. It later moved into the main area of the Crystal Realm where Tom and the riders fought against it, giving a Fault Ripper they had trained enough time to drain the magma from the Crystal Realm.
During the battle, the Sky Torcher ferociously pursued the riders into the hidden depths of the Crystal Realm, and managed to corner them in a crystal canyon. Before it could finish them off; however, the Fault Ripper intervened with the Crystal Realm Dragons to stand together, and force the Sky Torcher out of their territory. Eventually, the Sky Torcher has had enough, and was forced back into the Fire Realm through a new cave system created by the Fault Ripper. After the Sky Torcher returned to the Fire Realm with its Flame Thrower pack, the cave was sealed off by the Fault Ripper, ending the Sky Torcher's threat and saving the Crystal Realm from destruction.
Season 5[]
In "Punishment and Torcher", the same Sky Torcher returned to the Ice Realm in search of its missing Flame Throwers, who were all taken prisoner by Buzzsaw. As Buzzsaw saw the giant dragon, he flew away out of fear on his Timberjack, Jack. It then attacked the Dragon Club after mistaking them for being the Flame Throwers' captors. After a lengthy battle, the Dragon Club set the Flame Throwers free, and the Sky Torcher left the group on better terms.
Season 7[]
In "Rise of Jörmungandr", the Alpha Sky Torcher appeared as Buzzsaw used the dragon whistle to control it so he could bust down the gate that contained the Jörmungandr. It took down the Dragon Club, forcing Thunder to release Jörmungandr to save Tom and the others. This resulted in the Sky Torcher being Jörmungandr's first victim, as it was grabbed by the much larger dragon, pulled into its old cell, and injured severely.
Season 8[]
In "How to Train Jörmungandr", during the riders' first attempt to stop Jörmungandr, Tom stated that the serpent almost killed the Sky Torcher, revealing the dragon had thankfully survived.
In "Ragnarok: Part 1", when Tom and Jun came to the Fire Realm to get a Fire Gronckle and iron for Gronckle Iron, they found both next to the Sky Torcher, who had returned to the Fire Realm and was fast asleep, although it was severely injured with scars, a chipped fang, and even a bite mark around its neck, while it was also guarded by Flame Throwers. When Tom and Jun snuck around the Flame Throwers and retrieved a docile Gronckle, another more aggressive Gronckle arrived and accidentally woke up the Sky Torcher. After everything the lunatic logger had put the Sky Torcher through, along with almost getting it killed, it despised any human it saw and was willing to kill them. When Tom and Jun tried escaping, the Sky Torcher worked with its Flame Throwers to destroy them. When it had a perfect shot to kill Tom, Thunder intervened by flying very fast and pushing the Gronckle Tom was riding further away just before the Sky Torcher's fire got to them. After they left, the Sky Torcher was very angry and roared, threatening them to stay out of the Fire Realm.
In "Ragnarok: Part 2", as Jörmungandr was making its way to the surface, Tom and Thunder went to get reinforcements, recruiting the Fault Ripper and Sky Torcher. Despite the Sky Torcher not being on good terms with both dragons, it respected the new Alpha enough to do so and hated Jörmungandr more than them. When Tom and Thunder arrived at the surface, Thunder summoned them to join the battle. The Sky Torcher and Fault Ripper then rose up from the fissure, and, on Thunder's command, the Sky Torcher fired at Jörmungandr, getting its revenge and forcing the serpent to retreat. After the Fault Ripper stopped the snake-like dragon in its tracks, Thunder ordered them both to stand down to allow the riders' dragons to finish the World Serpent off.
Trivia[]
- The Sky Torcher that attacked the Crystal Realm in the species' namesake episode bears some similarities with the Jotun Surtur, the mythological ruler of Muspelheim, the Norse realm of fire and magma.
- Like how Surtur rules Muspelheim, the Sky Torcher appears to be the dragon ruler of the Fire Realm.
- In the legend of Ragnarök, Surtur attempts to enflame the Nine Realms, with the Sky Torcher attempting to do the same to the Crystal Realm of the Hidden World.
- In addition, the Sky Torcher commands an army of Flame Thrower dragons to aid in its destruction of the Crystal Realm, similar to how Surtur commands an army of fire Jotun to aid in his destruction of Asgard and all the worlds of Norse mythology.
- The Sky Torcher also shares some similarities to the Screaming Death.
- Both are white in coloration.
- Both are recurring characters that cause problems for the protagonists of their series.
- Both required multiple wild dragons to defeat alongside the protagonists.
