Buzzsaw's operations to take over the Hidden World are slowing down thanks to the Dragon Club's interference, with Ford and Winston's latest attempt at dragon hunting being thwarted by them. When Buzzsaw chides them for their failure, they argue that the Dragon Riders have a book that gives them knowledge about dragons and gives them the edge. Buzzsaw decides to take the book for himself no matter what it takes.
On the surface, Alex alerts the other riders there have been sensor alerts caused by Buzzsaw in the Nature Realm. The team heads to the Nature Realm to confront Buzzsaw, but Alex's sensors are suddenly taken offline and keep them from finding Buzzsaw. They find a captured Hobgobbler in the open and while trying to free it, they are ambushed by darts from Buzzsaw and his men. Thunder is struck with dart while covering D'Angelo freeing the Hobgobbler and Buzzsaw reveals the dart was poisoned. He reveals that he has the antidote and demands the book of dragons in exchange for it. Tom explains he doesn't have the book on him and Buzzsaw gives him until sundown to exchange the dragon book with him alone in the Ice Realm.
The Dragon Riders bring Thunder and the Hobgobbler to the ICARIS infirmary to try and treat the poison. D'Angelo tries to use the Speed Stinger antivenom in hopes of curing the poison and Jun and Alex warn Tom that giving Buzzsaw the dragon book would make him even more dangerous. The antivenom doesn't work and Thunder's condition worsens, but Eugene unintentionally gives Tom and D'Angelo the idea to check the dragon book for a potential cure. Unfortunately, the book doesn't have an answer for the poison and D'Angelo can't figure out what to do. With no other idea of how to save Thunder, Tom decides to give up the book to Buzzsaw. On the way to the Hidden World, Tom and D'Angelo find the Hobgobbler running lose thanks to Eugene's negligence and discover it was also hit with a dart but is unaffected by the poison. D'Angelo realizes the Hobgobbler must have somehow developed an immunity to poison and learns from the book the immunity may come from special flowers it eats and those same flowers to cure Thunder. Tom is reluctant to risk Thunder's life, but agrees to let D'Angelo, Jun and Eugene look for the flowers.
D'Angelo's group heads to the Nature Realm and quickly find the flowers, but the Hobgobblers are incredibly protective of their food source. When Eugene tries to take a flower, the Hobgobblers chase him, and he ends up being a diversion that allows Jun and D'Angelo to take some flowers. Back at ICARIS, Thunder's condition grows critical, and D'Angelo's team returns just in time. However, the flowers fail to work, and Tom is unable to risk waiting any longer and takes the book. He takes Feathers to Buzzsaw's meeting place and gives him the book in exchange for the antidote. Buzzsaw then reveals that the antidote is fake and there never was one. He then has his men capture Tom.
Back at the infirmary, D'Angelo laments his failure and lets the Hobgobbler have the remaining flowers to eat. However, he discovers that the Hobgobblers don't eat the flowers, but the slugs that live on them. When Buzzsaw attempts to shoot Tom with a poison dart, Feathers tries to save him but is hit instead. Fortunately, a recovered Thunder and the other riders come to his rescue. They defeat Buzzsaw and his men, but Buzzsaw calls his Timberjack to rescue him and takes the book with him. D'Angelo treats Feathers by feeding her the slugs from the flowers, which are the actual cure. Tom thanks D'Angelo for saving Thunder and apologizes for doubting him and giving away the book. D'Angelo understand and admits even he didn't know what else to do at the time. The other riders promise to get the book back and head home. Meanwhile, Buzzsaw discovers he can't read the book because it's written in runes and is furious but grows intrigued by an illustration of Dagur the Deranged and his dragon hunting weapons.
