Pines are trees mentioned minimally in the How to Train Your Dragon Book series.

Pine Trees consist of about 126 species belonging to the Genus Pinus. They are Gymnosperm plants, meaning they produce seeds but not flowers. Instead their pollen is released into the air and dispersed by the wind, rather than relying on insects or other creatures to pollinate for them. Seeds are protected inside structures commonly called 'cones'.

Pine trees can vary in size from about three to 270 feet tall, depending on the species. Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a common species found in Scandinavia.

Pines appear in the background in the Book series, but are not seen being used by Vikings.

Pine trees are a popular wood tree. The wood is relatively soft and the trees faster-growing than hardwood trees. Pine trees also produce a resin which was harvested in historical times and used for a variety of products such as fire fuel, medicine, and a water-tight sealant.
