Penguins are sea birds mentioned in the How to Train Your Dragon Book series.

Penguins (Family Spheniscidae) are native to the Southern Hemisphere, not the Northern Hemisphere where historic Vikings resided. These winged, yet flightless birds occur in a range of climates from temperate to arctic along coastlines of Africa, South America, Australia, and Antarctica. Penguins are able to nimbly 'fly' through water, but not in air. Their diet consists mainly of fish. Predators include sharks, killer whales, seals, humans, and some other creatures.

Penguins mainly do not have a function in the Book series, except as a food item the Romans eat. Penguins have been eaten historically by humans, but is not consumed in great number today.
