Palm trees are plants that appear minimally in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise.
Description[]
Palm trees refer to any species belonging in the family Arecaceae. While there is no "Subarctic Palm" in real life, there is an European Fan Palm that Viking might have had contact with, which grows in the Southwest of the continent. A characteristic shared by all palm species are the long and wide leaves, that grow mostly on the top of the trees. In the case of the European Fan Palm, the leaves are much shorter due to the colder climate, only reaching 1.5 m in length.
Function[]
There are no current uses for palm trees in the franchise.
In reality, palms can have various uses, from producing fibres that can be harvested and used to make a multitude of objects, such as ropes and nets, to producing edible fruit that can be eaten or used for making oil.
