Magmar is a relative of the Twins, mentioned in several episodes of Dragons: Race to the Edge.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

At some point during his lifetime, Magmar arrived at Dragon's Edge, an uninhabited island, and claimed it for the Thorston Family. He left a Claim Stone or Naming rock to commemorate the event.

I, Magmar Thorston, hereby claim this island in my name and the name of all my family present and future, forever and ever."
  — Naming stone as read by Hiccup

The twins discover the Claim stone along with the other Dragon Riders, leaving the twins to believe that they own the island and rule as chiefs.

Oh, my Thor! Wasn't he the one who could pass an entire cod through one nostril?
  — Twins

End of Life[]

In the episode, "No Dragon Left Behind" when Stormfly appears to have been poisoned by a Slitherwing and believed to be dying, she starts to act bizarre, which reminds the Twins of when their Great Uncle Magmar was dying and going though the stages of grief. At the time of his death he had lost both arms and one leg, and in a rage, would chase people and try to bite them. He also refused to eat, and eventually accepted his fate and died, which the twins remember as the most boring part. It was the twins story about Magmar that made Astrid realize that Stormfly wasn't poisoned, but rather she was mourning the loss of her friend, Garffiljorg.

The Twins discuss Magmar's Funeral in "Searching for Oswald... and Chicken". They remember fondly the 'boar d'oeuvres' at the funeral.

Talents[]

According to the Twins in "Reign of Fireworms", Magmar was able to push a cod through one nostril in his nose, while deboning the cod at the same time.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the twins, Magmar knew how to spell correctly.
  • The story of his death could be a reference to Black Knight in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. When the character lost both his arms and one leg, he gets very angry and still wants to fight.
  • He is one of the few Thorstons whose name doesn't finish in 'nut'.
