"Magma Comes to the Surface" is the sixth episode of the third season of Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Plot[]
While testing out the shield, Tom gets an idea to turn the silver shard he got from the crystal maze into a sword in case he needs something to defend himself. Needing heat to temper the shard, the club goes to find the Magma Breather to use its magma, to D'Angelo's worry after his last encounter with it. However, the Magma Breather appears to be unwell and is not producing any magma. Eugene offers to help to get off provisional status, but Jun doesn't want him to mess anything up. D'Angelo deduces that the dragon has some kind of blockage preventing it from expelling magma and making it sick. The only way to fix the problem is to use an ultrasound machine from the ICARIS infirmary to see inside the dragon and Tom suggests bringing the Magma Breather to the machine, but that would mean bringing the heavy, large and sick dragon up to the infirmary.
The group makes little progress pushing, forcing D'Angelo to use the dragon's grudge against him to lure him to the fissure. Eugene offers to have Webmaster carry the Magma Breather up to the surface, but Tom instead puts him on lookout to keep him out of the way. When the Magma Breather proves too weak to fly, the group helps him climb the cliff. They sneak the dragon into the infirmary at night when no staff will be around and have Eugene watch the other dragons to keep them hidden by convincing him he can get off provisional status, but the dragons clearly have a different idea of who is in charge. While hiding the dragons, Eugene is found by Buzzsaw, who is still searching for the "lightning bird," and has to hide the dragons from him. He distracts Buzzsaw by agreeing to talk to him about his issues, in a strange form of therapy. After much difficulty, the others use the ultrasound to find a crystal blocking the Magma Breather's magma producer and Tom realizes that the dragon must have originally come from the fire realm.
D'Angelo removes the crystal by reaching into the Magma Breather's mouth and pulling it out but realizes the crystal has been stuck for too long and has stopped the Magma Breather from producing magma, which it needs to stay warm, and it is freezing to death without it. The group scrambles to bring the Magma Breather back to the fire realm before it is too late. Eugene actually manages to convince Buzzsaw to abandon his search for the "lightning bird" and begin anew, but when Buzzsaw chops down a tree in celebration, he discovers Thunder and tries to attack him. Eugene knocks out Buzzsaw with a branch and hides him to avoid getting him seen. The others find him and they use their dragons to keep the Magma Breather warm and bring him down the fissure. During the trip down the fissure, the dragons lose their grip on the Magma Breather, but Webmaster saves it by using its webs as a net. They return the Magma Breather back to the fire realm and Eugene is taken off provisional status.
With the Magma Breather now fully recovered, Tom begins using its magma to create his sword.
