Leyla and Summer have a very strong human-dragon relationship.

Prior to the events of the show Summer was swimming with her pod in the waters off a nearby island, soon they saw a ship and were lured by the people on the boat with fish, but to their horror they were pirates trying to capture them, even though Summer and her pod got away, she was separated from them ending up on said island. For the next several weeks, while avoiding the pirates, she waited for her pod to come back, but they never did. Then one day, she met Leyla after she saved her from the waterfall after the girl was separated from her brother Dak and adoptive Brother winger. Despite saving Leyla, Summer was wary of her until she explained that she was different and her situation, soon they became surrounded by pirates, but fought them off and soon noticed Winger's power blast. While relieved to see it, the pair knew Dak and Winger were in danger and saved them from the pirates as well. With them away from the pirates and knowing she had nowhere else to go, Summer joined the Rescue Riders and the two bonded while sharing knowledge, and remained best friends ever since.
In "Deep Trouble", Leyla and Summer both agreed that it was better to make a plan before doing something, contrary to Dak's belief that trusting his instincts was enough. When Dak, Winger, Cutter, and Elbone got lost inside the Maze Caves, Leyla and Summer decided to help them and started working on plans. However, Leyla couldn't decide which one was better, as each of them had minor flaws. Summer suggested that they should try to trust their instincts, like Dak had said, which Leyla reluctantly agreed. Summer washed away the pages with the plans written on them, until only one remained. Leyla and Summer worked together according to the plan and managed to save their friends.
In "Boo to You", Leyla and Summer participated in the Hoogenboo festival on Huttsgalor, while also helping Burple calm down, after the latter believed seeing the legendary Phantom Fang. Together, they discovered that the Phantom Fang was actually a Slinkwing, and drove it away from the village. During the battle, Leyla realized that Summer was immune to Slinkwing slime, believing it could be due to Fastfins being aquatic dragons.
In "Where There's Smoke", Leyla and Summer worked together to put out some fires, while also befriending Aggro, a Fire Fury living in Huttsgalor. Then, the duo helped save a herd of sheep from wolves, while also relocating it to a safer part of the island.
When Huttsgalor ran out of Belzium in "Heavy Metal", Leyla and Summer agreed to help find more. Dak quickly turned the search into a competition and everyone except for Summer and Leyla ran off. The two then asked Hannahr, the village's blacksmith, where they could find Belzium. After they obtained the information, the two soon found plenty of the mineral inside a small cave. However, Dak, Winger, and Magnus found the cave at the same time. Everyone tried to get a piece of Belzium out of the rock, but the constant pulling caused the cave to collapse and the entrance to be blocked. Together, Leyla, Summer, Dak, and Winger pushed the boulder, but they only managed to move it a little. Summer told Leyla to go and ask for help, and the girl did. She came back with Burple, Cutter, and Aggro, and together they moved the boulder out of the way. Leyla and Summer then hugged.
"Iced Out"
When all the dragons but Summer got the Dreaded Dragon Flu in "Sick Day", Leyla and Summer went and asked Marena if there was a cure. After Marena told them that the cure was Help Kelp, and that it was a delicacy to eels, Summer became upset, and Leyla noticed it despite Summer trying to cover it up. Summer told Leyla that she was afraid of eels, despite Fastfins not having a natural fear if eels. Leyla told Summer it is okay to be afraid, with Summer saying not when you're a Fastfin. Leyla then told Summer, "When you're my friend, it's okay. We all get scared, Summer, but the team needs us. Don't worry we're gonna get through this together, I promise." That statement made Summer feel better and she and Leyla headed off to find Help Kelp. Leyla and Summer first tried to find Help Kelp without looking for eels. Summer soon realized what Leyla was trying to do and appreciated it, and told Leyla that to find Help Kelp they needed to find eels. After Summer returned from trying and failing to get Help Kelp, she was again upset, realizing she couldn't get the Help Kelp on her own, and Leyla again reminded Summer that they can do this together saying, "Well, maybe you can't. But we can. I told you, we can get through this together." Summer was emboldened by what Leyla said and they then went into the water together and Summer provided a distraction that allowed Leyla to grab some Help Kelp before the eels noticed what she was doing. Summer protected Leyla and fought all six eels, and got Leyla's bag, with the Help Kelp, back from the eel that had stolen it, which landed back on the island, after which Leyla grabbed it. Leyla and Summer then shared a hug, after which Leyla then pulled back for a second to ask Summer about what she said to the eel, with Summer saying that she isn't as good with coming up with phrases as Dak, after which they resumed their hug.
"Bad Egg"
In "Slobber Power", the duo was watching the Slobber Smelter eggs when Summer caused a false alarm. The two friends then got into a debate about who should be better to imprint on. Later one of the eggs hatched and Summer tried to give Sizzle a fish resulting in Layla bribing him with a fish, but Sizzle chose Cutter instead.
Dragons: Rescue Riders, Season 2[]
In "Double Finked", Summer cheered up for Leyla as the girl was testing a Rescue Vine. When Axel arrived at the Roost, Leyla stopped him from touching Summer, as she knew that made her friend uncomfortable. Later, Leyla and Summer worked together to save Axel from an overprotective Baby Ramblefang.
In "Divewings", Leyla and Summer worked together to defend a Viking boat from two Divewings and chased them to their nest. Later, Leyla and Summer switched with Dak and Winger for a day, with Leyla riding on Winger and Dak riding on Summer.
In "Mecha-Menace", Leyla was infuriated by the Mechano-Dragon, so Summer attempted several times to calm her down. Summer helped Leyla during the competition against Axel and the Mechano-Dragon. She advised the girl to slow down so that they have a better efficiency. However, Leyla ignored it. She and Summer worked together to rescue Axel from an out-of-control Mechano-Dragon.
In "Summer Holiday", Leyla and Summer both agreed to go on a vacation, with the latter suggesting an island from her childhood. There, the two relaxed beside each other, but were constantly interrupted by eels, wolves, and Finngard, who had secretly traveled with them. After leaving the island, Summer realized that they traveled to the wrong location and apologized to Leyla. The girl forgave her friend and the two went, alongside the Rescue Riders, to continue their vacation on the second island.
In "Treasure Riders", Leyla and Summer worked together, while searching for Odin's Gem, and again while trying to escape from Waldondo del Mundo.
In "Puff Enuf", Leyla cheered for Summer when the Fastfin managed to hit two moving targets at one during a training exercise. The Rescue Riders later found a Puffertail named Zeppla, whom they started training for missions. Leyla and Summer watched together, but as Zeppla kept inflating out of embarrassment, they decided to go in town and check on Elbone. Not finding him there, they decided to look for him with the whole team. The group split and Leyla and Summer went together on the northern side of the island.
In "Hot, Hot, Hot", Leyla and Summer worked as a pair while stalking Aggro around the Roost, and later when attempting to get her out of a volcano.
In "High Anxiety", Leyla was amazed when Summer yelled at four rampaging baby Silver-tailed Ironclaws and they all lined up immediately. The Fastfin explained that she imagined what the hatchlings' mother would tell them. Leyla and Summer later cooperated in helping Mama Ironclaw get back in the air, after she injured her right wing.
In "King Burple", Leyla and Summer came up with an idea of searching for Rocky, after it was lost among a large pile of rocks. Leyla checked each rock individually and then threw them to Summer, who separated them from the unchecked ones. However, their method proved to be unsuccessful.
In "Charged Up", Leyla noted down Summer's capabilities during a target shooting competition. Later, Leyla and Summer worked together to save the villagers from an out-of-control Mechano-Dragon and also to destroy the machine.
In "Belly Flop", Leyla secretly prepared a Seven Spice Seafood Surprise for Summer's birthday, claiming that the Fastfin always guessed her gift. Leyla finished the dish just before Summer returned to the Roost, so the two of them went out shopping. Later, when the Rescue Riders discovered a Sea Gronckle had swallowed Elbone, Summer tried to make a deal with the dragon, only to be swallowed as well, much to Leyla's distress. The girl the fed awful tasting food to the Sea Gronckle, which vomited out Summer. Leyla was happy to see her safe, and hugged her friend lovingly.
In "Game of Horns", Leyla and Summer worked together while helping Duggard in the titular event.
Dragons: Rescue Riders: Hunt for the Golden Dragon[]
In this special, Leyla and Summer worked together to decipher the clues from the map leading to the Golden Dragon. They watched each other's back when they confronted the pirates seeking the Golden Dragon: Erik the Wretched, Svetlana the Sly, and Waldondo del Mundo.
