Physical Appearance[]

Hatchling to Adult[]

The Jörmungandr is a large dragon with a serpentine appearance, characterized by its elongated eel-like body and distinct frills that resemble a cobra's hood. It also features multiple dorsal fins of varying sizes that run from its head to its tail, a pair of large and small fins that are situated near the end of its tail, and a pair of fins behind its jawline. In terms of physical structure, the Jörmungandr's body is more robust and less streamlined compared to that of a typical snake, as it has a flatter shape. Its other distinguishing feature is its triple-split jaw with protruding teeth and two pairs of long fangs on the side and front of its lower jaws. His size is similar to the gigantic Screaming Death.

Abilities[]

Jaw Strength[]

The Jörmungandr's big jaws allow it to seize and move large dragons

The Jörmungandr exhibits impressive jaw strength, allowing it to securely grasp its prey. This indicates its substantial bite force and well-developed muscles. In a notable display of its power, the Jörmungandr effortlessly clamped onto a sizable Sky Torcher dragon, which was similar in size to the dragon previously encountered by the Dragon Club.

The Jörmungandr possesses two lower jaws that can expand to a significant width, which can accommodate bigger prey items, similar to all species of snake.

Strength and Combat[]

The Jörmungandr effortlessly employs its immense strength to pull the Sky Torcher, a prey of comparable length but with a more slender body, which demonstrates the exceptional power and efficiency of this predator-prey interaction. Despite possessing considerable strength, it seems that the creature is unable to successfully free itself from its confinement.

The Jörmungandr's immense size allows it to forcefully ram into opponents, while its tail serves as a versatile weapon, capable of delivering powerful strikes akin to a whip or flail. It is able to withstand the fire of the Sky Torcher, and the blasts of Gem Breakers. In a battle, it can easily take down a large group of dragons with a single hit of its powerful tail.

Speed and Agility[]

The Jörmungandr has proven to be exceptionally fast for a colossal dragon, as it can even catch up to an average flying Night Light, despite it not possessing the ability of flight. It also managed to quickly use its tail to cut off Thunder from entering its former prison to protect himself from its wrath.

Endurance and Stamina[]

Jörmungandr displayed remarkable durability and stamina, enabling it to withstand encounters from the Night Light Elder and other Night Lights, as it ventured towards its intended destination in the next realm. Its endurance allowed it to journey towards the God's Realm despite the challenges it faced.

During a skirmish with the Gem Blaster, Jörmungandr received a powerful blow from Thunder, propelled at high velocity, that forcefully collided it with a rocky terrain wall. Although it caused significant distress and broke one of its fangs, it only rendered it temporarily dazed. Jörmungandr then swiftly recovered and slithered away.

Later that day, Jörmungandr demonstrated its resilience by enduring attacks from Thunder, Wu and Wei, Feathers, Plowhorn, Webmaster, and several other wild dragons. Although it received some superficial damage, it remained largely unscathed and unfazed. Even with assistance from the Night Light Elder, its stamina remained sufficient to continue its journey.

Jörmungandr's exceptional durability and stamina allowed it to endure numerous battles, and persevere through various challenges, showcasing its resilience and determination.

Tunnelling[]

The Jörmungandr can drill through the earth with ease as seen when it escaped

The Jörmungandr possesses the remarkable ability to tunnel through the realm tunnel of the cave effortlessly, as observed during its escape. However, it seems that the creature is unable to penetrate solid rock, as evidenced by its prolonged entrapment within a specially crafted cave for centuries. The solid rock within the cave must have proven too resilient for the Jörmungandr to break free. This suggests that the composition of the stone must possess exceptional strength and durability.

Poison Gas Breath[]

The Jörmungandr emits a cyan-hued gas from its oral cavity, which possesses venomous properties that prove lethal to dragons upon inhalation. The effects of this venomous gas leads to the eventual demise of the affected dragons within a specific timeframe. This poisonous gas is also detrimental to the environment, as it can kill-off plants and other life forms, thus earning the dragon's reputation for bringing about the end of the world.

Stealth[]

Despite its massive size, the Jörmungandr possesses remarkable stealth capabilities, and can effortlessly surprise unsuspecting individuals from behind, making it the perfect ambush predator.

Vitality[]

The Jörmungandr exhibits an exceptional longevity and remarkable adaptability, enabling it to sustain itself for extended periods spanning several centuries without evident access to nourishment or hydration, even when constrained within a confining enclosure.

Fire Blast[]

Besides its poisonous gas breath, Jörmungandr also exhibited the ability of breathing fire.

Intelligence[]

The Jörmungandr exhibits a notable level of intelligence, enabling it to learn from past experiences, and adapt its strategies accordingly, particularly when faced with adversaries. This was evident in an instance where the Jörmungandr came under the influence of Valka's Staff again, this time being wielded by Tom Kullersen. Despite being initially enticed, the creature gradually regained its senses, and discerned Tom's attempt to lure it back into confinement. This showcases the Jörmungandr's cognitive abilities and its ability to recognize and respond to deceptive tactics.

Furthermore, the Jörmungandr also displayed cunning behavior by outsmarting the dragon riders, who were trying to use a Speed Stinger venom-coated ballista. It astutely deduced that it was being enticed into a trap, prompting it to refrain from approaching any closer. Additionally, the Jörmungandr's aggression escalated when provoked by Alex and Feathers, exemplifying its ability to assess threats and respond accordingly.

The Jörmungandr is also able to come up with complex deception, which was shown when, after its attack on the King's Realm and Night Lights failed, it deduced that the riders would anticipate it returning to finish the job, and set a trap for it. When in fact, it would go on to attack another unprotected realm, the God's Realm.

Weaknesses[]

Mist Twister Mist[]

The Mist from a Mist Twister can dilute the toxic breath it emits, lowering the risk to a dragon's health, and countering it directly as shown by Wu and Wei.

Timberjack Wings[]

The sharp wings of a Timberjack can slice the Jörmungandr's nearly impenetrable skin, leaving massive scars, as shown by Jack in "Ragnarok: Part 2".

Lack of Wings[]

As demonstrated by Thunder in How to Train Jörmungandr, the Jörmungandr can be easily outmaneuvered by smaller, faster flying dragons, as the sole individual struggled to strike down Thunder for a period of their battle.

Alpha Night Light Blasts[]

It is shown that Jörmungandr can be countered with electrical attacks from lightning-based dragons like Night Lights. When the serpent tried to block Thunder from entering the cage, Thunder used the gate of its cage to conduct lightning into its mouth and body, which made Jörmungandr release him. However, the most effective dragon that is capable of fighting against Jörmungandr is a Night Light in its Alpha Mode. Thunder's superior lightning power, further directed by Tom's Sword, shattered the Jörmungandr's fangs, and knocked it out-cold.

Behavior and Personality[]

The Jörmungandr holds the top position as a predator among all dragons, displaying an incredibly high level of danger that warranted its confinement. Before engaging in any reactive actions, the dragon demonstrated a patient approach, meticulously choosing the perfect moment to launch an attack against another dragon. Once the encounter concluded, the dragon departed without causing harm to the smaller dragons in the area. This behavior suggests a long-awaited release, as if the dragon had been eagerly anticipating and longing for its freedom for a considerable period.

Once freed, the dragon went on a restless rampage, attacking and destroying as much of the Hidden World as it could. The Jörmungandr didn't seem to display hunting behavior, but rather acting on an impulse to destroy all life in its reach. This would explain why it would willingly destroy its own environment and food sources without rest. This urge for destruction is why the dragon was said to bring about the end of the world.

Dragons: The Nine Realms[]

Season 7[]

ROJ-22-Tom-Book

At some point in ancient times, the Jörmungandr was discovered in the Hidden World where it served as the ultimate predator of all dragons, endangering them. Through Valka's Staff, the Jörmungandr was subdued by Hiccup and locked in a specialized cage created in the Dark Realm that can only be opened by the muzzle of a Night Fury or a Night Light, due to their retractable teeth.

In "404 Alex Not Found", when Alex is kidnapped by Buzzsaw and learns he's looking for a so called death Dragon, so she tricks him by lying to him where it is and steals the Book of Dragons back from him. When she gave it back to Tom she informs everyone of what he was looking for and reveals the page showing Jörmungandr and the Dark Realm.

In "Rise of Jörmungandr", Jun manages to translate and identify the scary snake dragon as Jörmungandr the World Serpent, and how it would bring upon the end of the world. Fearing that Buzzsaw was going to unleash it and destroy the Hidden World the Dragon Riders attempted to reach the Dark Realm and Jörmungandr's cage before the lunatic logger reaches it. Despite the challenges the riders eventually arrive at the cage and examine it but also hear the roars of the World Serpent inside. But unforntaly Buzzsaw had already fund it and deluded himself thinking he could control the beast inside and get past the gate he somehow subdued the Sky Torcher and used it to attack the Dragon Club. When Tom was cornered by the Sky Torcher up to the cage and Buzzsaw whistle abused it to kill him, Thunder was forced to open the cage that contained the Jörmungandr in an attempt to save his rider. With the cage opened, the Jörmungandr was freed, allowing it to grab the Sky Torcher by the neck and dragged it away into its cage, where it was badly injured and almost killed by the serpentine dragon. Buzzsaw ran away in fear, and Thunder protected Tom as the Jörmungandr escaped, now running loose in the Hidden World.

Season 8[]

In "How to Train Jörmungandr", after Jörmungandr is free he begins to go upon a rampage in the realms so in the Crystal Realm the Dragon Riders attempt to ambush him but after Alex's tablet says he's gone the World Serpent shows up from behind them and ambushes them, apart from Thunder it manages to knock everyone to the ground and even despite Thunder's attacks Jörmungandr stands unaffected. When Jörmungandr plans to kill the riders in one go Thunder gets in front only for him to tail whipped away which Jörmungandr then releases a cloud of toxic gas so the other dragons use their bodies to shield the riders which temporarily works so Wu and Wei use all their strength to combat the gas with a giant steam cloud. Later the riders managed to escape back to the Dragon's Lair only but apart from Thunder all the other dragons were badly weak from the poison gas, but still determined tries to find away to defeat the World Serpent so after reading the more chapters in the Book of Dragons he learns that behind the Night Fury Symbol on Jörmungandr's cage is Valka's staff. When shows the riders the staff and explains he wishes to use it like Hiccup, Eugene rudely says it won't work and the others more politely agree but Tom ignores them and is destined to master it so to stop Jörmungandr. Meanwhile in the Nature Realm Jörmungandr arrives and chases away two Terrible Terrors while crushing a piece of Dragonsite. When Tom attempts to use the staff and fails miserably along with Eugene's teasing he gives up until Jun reads to him the Book of Dragons explaining how Hiccup used the staff to hypnotise and trick Jörmungandr into it's cage locking it away forever, so after giving Tom so hematite to help him practise. So after practising the staff out with a couple of small dragons Tom learns how to use it but mainly Alex and Eugene still don't it'll work since he explained it didn't work on a Deathgripper so what chance does it have against the World Serpent, however their conversation is cut short as Alex's tablet reveals Jörmungandr is causing havoc in the Nature Realm, so with the dragons still out of commission Tom and Thunder are forced to go but promise they'll only evacuate the dragons and not engage with the snake. While evacuating the dragons Tom and Thunder quickly get them out as they hear Jörmungandr getting closer, but after finding and freeing the Deathgripper again from a fallen tree branch in an act of courage Tom manages to use the staff to completely hypnotise it under his command and to orders it to run away as the Serpent is coming. But from behind the trees Terrors fly away as blue smoke forms revealing Jörmungandr has arrived and knowing they couldn't evacuate the realm by themselves Tom was forced to confront Jörmungandr, but as it appeared Tom tried using the staff but failed causing Thunder to grab him and the two to become chased by the snake. Meanwhile in the Dragon's Lair when the dragons finish recuperating Alex's tablet shows Thunder's saddle tracker in the Dark Valley which Jun realises he broke his promise and is going after the Serpent. And Tom and Thunder arrive into the Dark Realm leading Jörmungandr back into his cage Tom still tries to use the staff but fails, so when they arrive at the gate Thunder stands by the lock ready to close it when the Serpent gets close enough and in a last ditch effort Tom tries to use the staff again. At first it doesn't work but as he tries again Jörmungandr becomes enticed by the staff's movements so as Tom tries luring it into the cage Jörmungandr remembers how Hiccup did the exact same thing to trap it so he grabs the staff off Tom and bites down on it snapping it into pieces and spitting it out. When it tries to eat Tom Thunder zaps it making it go after him instead but its tail hits Tom knocking him unconscious. When Tom wakes up see sees Thunder flying around the serpent zapping him which the other riders arrive, they hunker in the cage knowing it would be a safe place from Jörmungandr once the gate is down so while they retreat inside Eugene runs down the steps doing a weird little dance to distract it with a stick while Thunder closes the gate, once everyone is inside Thunder rushes in until Jörmungandr blocks him but thanks to Plowhorn wedging a rock in the gate stops moving but as Thunder tries getting inside Jörmungandr grabs his tail and pulls him away underneath the gate spikes and plans to impale him. So as the World Serpent bites onto the cage and tries getting it to move again Thunder bites onto the metal bars and discharges his lightning causing it to spread across the whole gate which electrocutes Jörmungandr allowing Thunder to run inside to safety. Since Jörmungandr couldn't get to them inside the cage he leaves to continue his rampage, later back at the lair the Dragon Riders offer their base as sanctuary to small and defenceless dragons to be safe from Jörmungandr until they can get him back into the cage.

In "The Great Foster Fake-Out", because of Jörmungandr's rampaging warpath throughout the realms destroying and attempting to kill everything it sees the Dragon Riders were forced to evacuate many small and defenceless dragons out the realms and offer refuge in the Dragon's Lair. Later when the kids get people in Rakke Town to adopt to refugee dragons due to the Lair being overcrowded Olivia was sceptical about this until Tom explains that Jörmungandr isn't part of the natural order and his existence is threatening all dragons hence why the riders brought them all up. Soon after successfully hiding them all from Mr Rakke during his visit and Tom admitting to Olivia that the dragons couldn't stay but she then informs him that everyone has his back and not to keep secrets if Jörmungandr is really that dangerous.

In "Science vs. Nature", given the close call with Mr Rakke the Dragon Riders had to take the foster dragons back to the Hidden World even though Jörmungandr was still causing trouble but to prevent such a thing they decided to set up extra sensors to track its every movement and find places to hide the dragons for if it shows up. So while looking for suitable areas in the Nature Realm they find it destroyed and poisoned due to Jörmungandr's poisonous gas which killed all the plants making them wilt and turn black, the riders even found one of the Deadly Nadder trio badly injured and poisoned from the gas and considering the other two weren't around the riders feared that Jörmungandr could've killed them. After getting the injured Nadder back to the Dragon Hospital and witnessing Jerry sting Murray tom comes up with a plan to stop Jörmungandr by injecting him with Speed Stinger venom so D'Angelo and Eugene have Carla, Hazel and Pete help obtain venom from Jerry, while Tom, Jun and Alex steal Buzzsaw's ballista to help launch the venom at the snake. Meanwhile before Buzzsaw's ballista gets stolen he constantly brags about how Jörmungandr knocks down the dragons making them weak and he simply grabs them making hunting extremely easy, so as he goes to collect more Ford and Winston worry about Jörmungandr coming to the camp but Buzzsaw tells them to use the ballista if it shows up, however as he leaves they lose the ballista to the riders and get themselves captured but also makes Buzzsaw seek vengeance on them. Once enough venom was transferred into a harpoon the riders take it and the ballista to the Nature Realm where Jörmungandr is and find him trying to eat some Terrible Terrors, so for the plant to work the riders lure Jörmungandr towards a cliff where Tom and Thunder are ready to shoot with the Ballista to inject Jörmungandr with speed stinger venom causing him to freeze. But as they get closer Jörmungandr sees Tom and the ballista realising its a trap so it leaves but Alex and Feathers manages to make it mad enough to force it to chase after them towards the trap, but when Jörmungandr gets close enough within shooting range Buzzsaw and Jack show up attacking them causing the harpoon to not hit properly and bounce off. Blinded by rage against Tom Buzzsaw didn't notice Jörmungandr looking down at them which the dragon thought he was the one to shot the harpoon at him so as he cowardly retreats on Jack Jörmungandr chases after them. Because of this set back Jörmungandr was still out there and with the situation so dangerous it wasn't safe at all for the fosters to go back home yet.

In "Of Gods and Monsters", in the Dragon's Lair Tom is upset that Buzzsaw foiled his plan to stop Jörmungandr once and for all and despite Eugene being his annoying rude self, Jun and Alex try and convince him that it wasn't his fault and the plan would've worked. Though when Plowhorn goes missing and D'Angelo states that she's scared she sleeps next his bedroom window to feel safe, Alex understands given the threat of the World Serpent. When they all go looking for Plowhorn D'Angelo is very worried of where she could be and Eugene has to be jerk saying Jörmungandr could've got her in mocking tone until Jun punches him, but then they find Buzzsaw grovelling to them to help Jack because apparently the Timberjack had almost been killed by the giant snake and explains Jack's wing is broken and he's been poisoned. Despite some concerns the riders have no choice but to check and see Buzzsaw was telling the truth as Jack was actually injured and poisoned by Jörmungandr, which as D'Angelo treats Jack Buzzsaw regrets even going after it as he even named it the Death Dragon. Much later after rescuing Plowhorn from Sledkin, finding the Gods Realm and preventing the crazy scientist from destroying the Hidden World the riders return home and after dealing with Sledkin's death Olivia asks Tom if he'll be alright which he responds he will but not until Jörmungandr is back is his cage as things have gotten too out of hand which Jun assures him they will stop him

In "Ragnarok: Part 1", after May was made fully aware of Jörmungandr she calls the an emergency meeting where she, Olivia and Philip inform the riders of how dangerous the possibility is that Jörmungandr could come up to the surface so with that May informs everyone she'll have to permanently close ICARIS. The riders aren't happy about this decision and fear they'll never see each other again and that the dragons would have to deal with World Serpent alone, Tom still believes that if they can defeat the serpent they can prevent ICARIS from closing although Eugene states that everything they've tried hasn't worked but then Alex's tablet alerts them of Jörmungandr in the King's Realm which worries Tom as Thunder's family could be in danger so they riders set out to rescue them. When they arrive they see the damage Jörmungandr did with smoke burning everywhere and the adult Night Lights looking beat and injured, Jörmungandr merely poisoned the parents but after D'Angelo examines the Elder he sees that the bite marks show the old dragon barely got away. Once the Night Lights were safe Tom was very determined to find a way to be Hiccup if they had any chance of defeating the World Serpent and then asks Jun what she knows about it which she states Jörmungandr in mythology is the child of Loki the God of Mischief explaining why its so hard to pin down, Tom questions why its doing this where Jun explains its trying to cause Ragnarok (the end of the world), Alex states he's good at his job since he's destroyed every realm he's been too however Tom identifies that he didn't destroy the King's Realm because the Elder Night Light managed to chase and drive him out. Tom then realises it'll be back and thinks they can stop it but the others admit they can't but Tom has the idea of trapping it since they know he'll be back to destroy the realm, but as Jun explains the only thing that can hold him is the Gronckle Iron gate in the Dark Realm but after Tom looks at the arch way of Hiccup's old base he plans to use the cave to hold him. So Tom and Jun go out to collect materials for a new Gronckle Iron Gate while the others hang back to protect the Night Lights in case Jörmungandr comes back early. Jörmungandr is the shown slithering demonically throughout the realms planning to do something evil. When Tom and Jun arrive in the desert realm to find sandstone but find the Glass Caster looking terrified they realise Jörmungandr had almost killed it, and despite Jun wanting to relocate the Glass Caster somewhere he'll be safe Tom states the mission is too important but that they'll check on him later. When the two arrive in the Nature Realm for Limestone they encounter some Vine Tails who act aggressively due to them also almost getting killed by Jörmungandr but Thunder alerts his dominance to desecrate them, Jun then becomes scared since she knows what the myth of Jörmungandr will bring upon and is also scared since in the myth Jörmungandr's arch nemesis is Thor the God of Thunder and gestures towards the dragon, and despite Tom saying its coincidence she's still scared the myth is true but Tom assures her that they'll stop him once and for all. Finally as they retrieve Iron ore and a Fire Gronckle they see the Sky Torcher sitting near them who now had really bad scars, scratches and a bite mark around his neck after Jörmungandr almost killed him, and when an aggressive Fire Gronckle woke it up the Sky Torcher remembered that the Riders almost got him killed by the serpent and wanted to kill them, but thankfully they escape. After forging the materials into bars and bring them back to the Kings Realm they all set to work in building the gate and once its complete and the Night Lights are moved somewhere safe they're ready to trap the snake where Alex explains the second Jörmungandr is in the cave she'll press a button on her tablet which'll drop the cage on top of him. Jun is relieved thinking they'll be able to stop Ragnarok but after a while Jörmungandr doesn't show up and after a false alarm from Shadow Alex's sensors inform her that Jörmungandr isn't coming for the King's Realm but actually attacking the Gods Realm, which Tom realises it tricked him by letting the Night Lights survive knowing the riders would stay to protect them and then everyone realises if he destroys the Gods Realm he destroys the Hidden World leading to Ragnarok.

In "Ragnarok: Part 2", realising the Jörmungandr tricked them again they head to the Riders head to Gods Realm to stop him which Tom and Thunder race out of the Kings Realm and zoom through the Ice, Nature and Desert Realm to stop the World Serpent. Meanwhile in the Gods Realm the Gem Blaster and the Gembreaker Guards were holding off Jörmungandr from getting to the Dragonsite Jewel keeping the oxygen in the Hidden World from depleting, however their efforts proved futile as the guards were knocked down and Jörmungandr actually hurling the Gem Blaster across the cavern. As Jörmungandr was about to kill the Gem Blaster Tom and Thunder arrive and crash into Jörmungandr's head causing him to get knocked down to the floor and even making one of his fangs snap out causing him to retreat, as Eugene holds the fang and praises Tom for stopping the snake Tom corrects him they got lucky and that the fight was far from over. Back at the Kings Realm the riders are stumped on what to do and in the Night Light cave Tom sulks while looking at Jörmungandr's page in the book feeling that he'll never live up to the Hiccup's name, however when Jun encourages him to not give and states he's a warrior like Astrid was Tom gains his confidence and plans one more strike against the World Serpent but since they can't beat him in a straight up fight Tom orders everyone to get some back up knowing they'll need all the help they can get. So after changing into their Fire Suits (except Eugene) the riders plan one more assault where Tom and Thunder arrive first and are surprised to see the Elder Night Light join them who then flies up and unleashes his alpha glow howling to challenge Jörmungandr to come out and face them. When the World Serpent arrives Tom and the Night Lights work together and shoot lighting at Jörmungandr causing some damage but it isn't enough, until Alex and Feathers arrives with some Featherhides who all sound blast the snake and by surprise D'Angelo and Plowhorn leading the Gem Bullies show up and spray Jörmungandr with loogi bombs. Jörmungandr tries spraying his gas at the Gembreakers but a wild Mist Twister shows up and sprays the gas away which Jun, Wu and Wei arrive too where Jun rams her shield into Jörmungandr's jawline hurting him, finally Eugene and Webmaster show up with Mother Snifflehide but Jörmungandr hits Webmaster causing Eugene to fly in the air and to fall into the dragon's mouth until the Snifflehide flies in to save him and get him back to Webmaster. The Snifflehide then flies into Jörmungandr and uses her wings to cover and blind his eyes preventing him from seeing anything, which allows the Elder Night Light to lead all the wild dragons for a frontal attack which works until Jörmungandr begins firing at Tom and Thunder making the Elder Night Light take the blow to save the boys and greatly injuring him, with that out the way Jörmungandr shakes the Snifflehide off his face launching her into the tree lines and escapes into the Ice Realm. Jörmungandr's actions cause the Elder Night Light to unfortunately pass away who he passes the power and title of the King of Dragons to Thunder. In the Ice Realm Jörmungandr slithers along the ground trying to escape the other dragons who keep blasting and bombarding him but the snake goes on the offence again and blasts a Gembreaker and Featherhide out the sky prompting D'Angelo to go down and help them, but when Tom and Thunder arrive Thunder orders the dragons to follow his lead and as they fly in formation they all simultaneously attack him. But Jörmungandr goes after D'Angelo however Buzzsaw flies in on Jack who is revealed to be alive who then uses his wing to slice a huge scar across Jörmungandr's forehead making him retreat towards the sinkhole entrance and up to the surface. While Buzzsaw tends to the wounded dragons everyone else pursues Jörmungandr up to the surface however Thunder realises they need reinforcements so he takes Tom back into the Hidden World to get help. Meanwhile on the surface as May makes it official ICARIS has to close she, Olivia, Philip and Hobs are horrified as they look out the window and when a giant shadow casts over Pete Jörmungandr had made it to ICARIS and attacks Rakke Town causing the people to panic, run and hide while Jörmungandr blasts at everything he sees. The Dragon Riders and their dragons still attempt to fight and stop him but Jörmungandr proves too powerful as he knocks them all to the ground, Jörmungandr then lets out a menacingly roar and plans to kill the riders once and for all until he's zapped. As the World Serpent looks up he sees Tom and Thunder who now possesses an alpha glow and becomes a little scared as he sees the boys escort both the Fissure Fault Ripper and the Alpha Sky Torcher by their sides up out the fissure which the rider's dragons fly up and join in with the mighty trio, Jörmungandr roars still wanting to fight so Thunder commands the Sky Torcher to attack which the giant white dragon finally gets its revenge and shoots its four stream attack at Jörmungandr which is so strong and painful it forces him to retreat, however Thunder then orders the Fault Ripper to stop him so the giant black dragon releases an enormous blast of fire which bombards and showers Jörmungandr in flames so painful it causes him to stop in his tracks. So when Thunder has them both stand down and allows the rider's dragons to fire they begin pelting Jörmungandr in their attacks which even obliterates the rest of his larger fangs, and finally as Tom and Thunder rush in channelling Thunder's lighting through Tom's sword Jörmungandr becomes scared and horrified seeing this and as they release the power a bolt of lightning from the sword is shot straight through the side of Jörmungandr's mouth creating a blue glowing shockwave and finally defeating the World Serpent as his while body falls to the ground unconscious. With Jörmungandr finally defeated he was brought back to his cell in the Dark Realm and was once again locked away and prisoned however he did do quite a lot of damage to Rakke Town which scared everyone, and more to the Hidden World as Thunder goes patrolling through the realms where he's praised by all the dragons for being the king and for saving them all. Jörmungandr's actions then made the dragons realise humans and dragons cannot coexist which made the other riders realise that too given how much problems and destruction was caused by Buzzsaw's unhealthy obsession with the World Serpent, as well as Sledkin's greed which almost killed the Hidden World. So Jörmungandr no longer a problem all the fosters were able to return to the Hidden World and the Rider's dragons then bid their goodbyes and returned as well to finally live their lives in peace.

Trivia[]

  • D'Angelo believes the Jörmungandr could also be the reason dragons fear serpent-like creatures, due to its status as the apex predator of all dragon kind. The Dragon Club is currently unaware that eels are very poisonous to most species of dragons and can cause the disease Eel Pox if ingested by a dragon.
  • The dragon's name and appearance are inspired by Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, which appears in Norse mythology.
  • It remains unknown whether Jörmungandr is the last of its kind and how it survived 1,300 years in prison without food. It may have been in suspended sleep, as some animals can do, to survive that long. For example the Frozen Skrill in his iceberg or the Foreverwing. Only the Red Death lives longer than the Jörmungandr. If Jörmungandr had been hibernating during its imprisonment it would explain the moss, stones, and dirt on its hide.
  • The way Tom tried to train the Jörmungandr with Valka's Staff is almost similar to how snake charmers use a pungi to "hypnotize" a snake.
  • In a manner reminiscent to the events in "How to Train Your Dragon 2", Jörmungandr's defeat follows a similar pattern. Toothless, assuming the role of the Alpha Dragon, triumphs over Drago's Bewilderbeast, eventually leading to his descendant, Thunder, ascending as the new King of Dragons. Thunder then utilizes this newfound power to confront Jörmungandr, the serpent, in an epic battle.
  • In the comic "The Legend of Ragnarok", the Purple Death is also known as Jörmungandr and is also referred to as the World Serpent.
  • Jörmungandr bears a striking resemblance to the Warbat Titan from the Monsterverse.
