Tom: "Eugene! Okay, here's the deal, hear me out."

Eugene: "I'm listening."

Tom: "It's not really up to us whether you get you get a dragon."

Eugene: "Uh, then who's it up to?

"Tom: "The dragon. It has to accept you."

Jun: "Right, so if you can bond with one, you can join the club."

Plot[]

While the dragon club hangs around in the Dragon's Lair, the dragons find Eugene spying on them. Eugene is amazed by everything about it and he demands to be allowed in the club and have his own dragon or else he'll reveal the secret. Jun is outraged by Eugene's blackmail, but Tom suggests if Eugene does bond with a dragon, he will want to protect it and keep the secret. Tom tells Eugene that it is up to the dragons whether or not they bond with him, and he can join the club if he bonds with one but make him promise to keep the secret if he fails. The group takes Eugene across the crystal realm to find a dragon, but his attempts to tame a Crystalwhip, Floodfang, and a Hobgobbler humorously fail. The attempts are interrupted when the group discovers Flame Throwers are in the crystal realm and attacking Terrible Terrors.

The group tries to stop the Flame Throwers, but a panicking Eugene falls off Wu and Wei and the Flame Throwers target him. Jun saves Eugene with the shield and is furious with his interference. The sensors pick up more Flame Throwers deeper into the crystal realm, far deeper than they should be. They track them to some crystal spires and sneak up on foot, with a fearful Eugene being forced to follow them. When Eugene asks if can join the dragon club after everything is over, Jun asks him why he wants to join so badly when he doesn't even like them. Eugene explains he just wants to be a part of something, but Jun refuses to let her troublesome brother join unless he can bond with a dragon. The two's arguing is stopped by the others and Eugene spots the Flame Throwers chasing a new dragon with eight legs called a Deadly Spinner. Eugene and Jun end up separated from the others, get stuck on a spire avoiding the chase, and Jun's arachnophobia causes her to be terrified by the Deadly Spinner and unable to move.

Tom spots a path from the Fire Realm through one of the spires and realizes that's how the Flame Throwers are invading the crystal realm. Eugene tries to snap Jun out of her fear, and the two are forced to flee on Wu and Wei when the Flame Throwers find them. While hiding, the Deadly Spinner takes cover near them, to Jun's terror. Eugene moves to protect his sister and ends up also protecting the dragon from the Flame Throwers with the shield. The Deadly Spinner grows attached to Eugene for saving its life and protects him in turn with it, forming a bond. The other dragon riders are overwhelmed by the Flame Throwers, but Eugene helps chase back through the tunnel to the fire realm on the Deadly Spinner and seals it with the dragon's web shot. Having passed the test and proven himself, Eugene and the Deadly Spinner, who he names Webmaster is reluctantly allowed into dragon club on provisional status. Unbeknownst to the dragon club, a large white claw has broken out of the sealed spire.
