Plot[]
Despite being unable to read the Book of Dragons, Buzzsaw is able to use the illustrations in it to capture an Octofin from a giant lake in the Giant Realm and plans to build an army of ferocious dragons. The Dragon Riders interrupt his operation and Buzzsaw orders his men to drop the Octofin in the water as a distraction. While the dragon riders try to rescue the Octofin, Buzzsaw and his men escape and when Tom tries to go after him, the others lose their hold on the Octofin and it falls back into the lake while still tied up. Unsure of how long the Octofin and survive while tied up, Tom decides to launch an underwater rescue mission. Alex points out they can use the ICARIS bathysphere to lower themselves deep enough against D'Angelo's objects. While the Dragon Riders secretly take the bathysphere, D'Angelo suggests they tell his dad, but Tom points out that would mean explaining that Buzzsaw is in the Hidden World, and they wouldn't be allowed back with if they knew such a dangerous man was on the loose. Before they can decide what to do, May finds them and believes they are just playing around. D'Angelo decides not to tell her because he wants to save the Octofin and the adults wouldn't let them go if they knew about Buzzsaw. Afterwards, they set up the bathysphere in the Giant Realm lake with Tom, Jun, and D'Angelo piloting it while the others operate the controls.
Meanwhile, Buzzsaw creates a forge to "change the game" and get the edge on the Dragon Riders. Tom and Jun are lowered into the lake and D'Angelo uses the bathysphere's radar to track and find the Octofin. He manages to get a hold of the Octofin's ropes and sends a signal to alert the other to pull them up. However, Eugene's impatience makes him try to pull the bathysphere up faster and he ends up making it malfunction and causing the bathysphere to get stuck. Tom discovers a Shellfire swimming around and remembers from the book that the dragon isn't normally aggressive unless something trespasses in its territory, which they currently doing. The Shellfire rams the bathysphere and Eugene and Alex try to pull them up from the surface. However, the Shellfire's horns snag the bathysphere's tether and snap it, sending Tom's team and the Octofin falling back the lake floor.
When it reaches the bottom, the Octofin releases an ink cloud to keep the Shellfire from finding it and the cloud also obscures the bathysphere. D'Angelo blames Tom and Jun for coercing him to not tell the adults and Tom admits it is his fault for letting Buzzsaw get the book in the first place. D'Angelo assures Tom he was just trying to help the Octofin and Tom realizes the Octofin know they are trying to help and intentionally created the ink cloud to protect them from the Shellfire. Tom decides to try and swim outside to free the Octofin and D'Angelo thinks it could work since the bathysphere landed upside down and won't flood in that position. Jun protests that the plan is too dangerous, but Tom explains it is their only chance. Tom swims outside with a knife to cut the ropes, but the Shellfire begins getting close and nearly swallows Tom. Jun and D'Angelo fire the bathysphere's explosives to force the Shellfire away. Tom manages to free the Octofin, but runs out of breath. The Octofin repays his kindness by bringing him back the bathysphere before he drowns and it tries pull the bathysphere to the surface. However, the Shellfire attacks them and causes the Octofin to drop the bathysphere. Fortunately, Thunder and the other dragons find them and help the Octofin chase off the Shellfire and pull the bathysphere to the surface. However, while the Dragon Riders escape safely, the bathysphere sinks and Tom offers to take the blame. D'Angelo instead asks him to come clean about Buzzsaw to the adults and Tom agrees to tell them when they get home.
However, when they get back to ICARIS, they discover it being attacked and burned by Buzzsaw and Jack. Buzzsaw declares everything in the Hidden World is his and gives a warning that he will attack without mercy should they trespass in his domain. After Buzzsaw leaves, the Dragon Riders are confronted by their parents about not telling them about Buzzsaw.
