The Huldrefolk are a type of supernatural beings first mentioned in Dragons: Titan Uprising, specifically in the description of New Year's Stormfly.
Mythology[]
The Huldrefolk mentioned in Dragons: Titan Uprising most likely refers to the Huldufolk in Icelandic lore. They are often counted as a type of elf, and have the powers of appearing and disappearing at will, hence the nickname of "hidden folk". They are sometimes seen as deeply connected to nature, and can be both helpful or malevolent to humans. They are said to live in special earthen mounds. To this day, Icelanders still traditionally make some sort of offering to the Hidden Folk on New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve, the Thirteenth Night, and Midsummer's Eve. In particular, the Thirteenth night (or thirteen days after December 24th), Elven Bonfires will be lit, to say farewell to the supernatural beings. Furthermore, present-day Scottish celebrate Hogmanay on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The term Hogmanay may have complex etymological roots in old Norse, and be derived from words meaning roughly "invoke the hillmen (elves) and banish the trolls to the sea".
