How to Train Your Dragon Wiki
Major Rules

If broken, there will be severe consequences up to and including a permanent block.

1. Follow all Policies in the Manual of Style: Everyone wanting to edit the wiki must follow the Manual of Style for the purpose of bettering this wiki and keeping it professional looking.

2. No Vandalism: Do not cause destruction or deface any part of the wiki, regardless of how or where.

3. No Spamming: This includes inserting gibberish and/or nonsense into any part of the wiki. Spamming also includes the act of doing an excessive amount of small edits, as well as posting redundant or off topic comments.

4. No “Hate”: Hatered towards any gender, religion, sexual preference, disability, or mental situation will not be tolerated. Likewise, excessive hate directed toward any fictional character, installment, or concept will be viewed as trollish and dealt with accordingly.

5. No Sexually Explicit Content: Uploading and/or creating any sexually explicit content is strictly prohibited and will result in it being removed and an immediate block.

6. No Plagiarism: Plagiarism such as claiming art or a story was created by you when it was actually created by someone else is strictly forbidden. Never copy/paste content from another site. Articles must be typed out using your own words.

7. Do not evade a Ban/Block: The act of evading a ban/block (or creating a "sock puppet" account) will result in a permanent block of the sock, and extending the block of the original account. If done continuously it can lead to a global ban.

8. Do not create pages for Fan Creations: This is the canon-only wiki. Pages for fan creations such as fan fiction or OCs can be created at the Fanon Wiki instead. Theories, headcanons, and speculations may be discussed in article comments or blog posts, but are not to be pushed as fact.

9. Do not post links to Illegal Websites for watching or reading pirated media: Doing so violates Fandom's Terms of Use, as well theft from DreamWorks. This includes sharing tips on how to hack one of the games.

10. Do not do anything that violates Fandom's Terms of Use.

Moderate Rules

If broken, there will be consequences, and repeating offenders can be blocked.

11. Respect other Users: There will be zero tolerance of harassing/bullying other users regardless of reason or who they are. This includes excessively "pinging" usernames and intentional disruption to the community, otherwise known as "trolling". Respect other users' privacy as well. Never ask for personal information such as phone numbers or addresses! An inability to gracefully back away from an argument may result in a temporary block of one or more parties involved.

12. Respect Wiki Staff: Administrators have the final say in all matters. An attempt to intimidate, threaten, or manipulate any staff will not be tolerated. If any member of staff asks you to stop doing something and you continue doing it, it will result in a block. They have the entire community's best interest to consider, not just yours. As our sister wiki, the Staff of the Fanon Wiki also must be respected. Anyone blocked from Fanon for legitimate reasons may be blocked from this one as well without warning.

13. Do not replace other users' contributions: The wiki is a collaborative space, where everyone has the right to contribute. As such, replacing the work of a user that did not violate any rules, such as rewriting paragraphs or removing images and uploading your own, is not allowed.

14. Adequate spelling and grammar: As a wiki, we pride ourselves in being professional and intelligent. Likewise, as the English HTTYD Wiki, all language outside message walls must be in English. If a user's spelling and/or grammar is not adequate enough, said user will be warned and/or blocked, depending on the severity of the offense.

15. No profanity: Only words such as "damn," "crap," and "hell" are allowed as swear words. More extreme words are prohibited. Such profanity or the use of images that contain harsh language will result in the editing or deletion by staff.

Discussions

Please see the Discussions Guidelines for a full list of rules for use in the Discussion Boards.

Pathway to becoming Wiki Staff

Before being considered for a local promotion to Content or Discussions Moderator, users must meet each of the following:

  1. Be at least 16 years of age and reflect such maturity in their behavior.
  2. Remain in good standing under a single account for over a year.
  3. Having never faced disciplinary action such as a block.
  4. Have at least 500 edits and/or posts to their credit.
  5. Have been observed tactfully approaching other users who break the rules.

Before being considered for a local promotion to Administrator, users must first be a Moderator and have held that position and remained active for over six months.

You may nominate another user or yourself for promotion, and present your case to one of the active admins. The Wiki's active members of staff will then take some time to discuss the promotion, and finally vote. Only after a vote will a promotion be issued.

Other

The Administrators reserve the right to:

  1. Edit, lock, or delete anything that may cause problems.
  2. Add new rules as well as change pre-existing rules.
  3. Allow exceptions to rules as needed.
  4. Create temporary rules to prevent temporary problems.
  5. Change lengths of blocks/bans.

By editing this wiki, you agree to follow all of the rules listed and to behave in a reasonable and respectful manner.

Please report any rule breakers to the admins.
