Synopsis[]
One day during a blizzard the Rescue Riders are trapped in The Roost. Dak is sitting by the fire place with Aggro acting as the fire while Winger is getting more wood. Meanwhile, Leyla is at the table trying to get some work done in her Dragon Diary, but can't as Burple is continually bouncing a rock off the wall. Leyla asks Burple to stop bouncing the rock, and he stops bouncing in that spot, and starts bouncing it in a different spot. Leyla is annoyed but then mentions that they all have been trapped inside for days, and that she had been hoping to get some work done. Cutter says it is okay as some people are annoying, and immediately he starts using his Spike Sharpener. Summer then blasts the Spike Sharpener away from Cutter and tells him that she warned him about using it, to which Cutter responds that he warned her about warning him about using his spike sharpener. Winger then comes out of the sleep cave with wood, and gives his speech about conquering boredom to which the others afterwards say he gave the same speech the previous two days.
Summer then suggests that they tell stories to each other, and everyone else but Cutter agrees. Cutter is more interested in using his spike sharpener but agrees to use it quietly. Burple than volunteers to tell a story, and tells the story of what had happened with him and Leyla moments earlier. Dak stops Burple and mentions they meant that they should tell stories of their past that not all of them know. Aggro then says she has always wanted to hear the story of how Leyla and Summer met. Cutter states that they already know that story stating that Leyla fell off Winger and was saved by Summer, and Summer replies that there is much more to the story than that.
Leyla begins the story and says that it started out as a normal day which back then meant they were hungry. She, Dak and Winger were trying to fish but they weren't very good at it. They decide to try Dak's idea of speed fishing, and it is unsuccessful. All the quick maneuvering causes Leyla to fall off of Winger's back but she is caught by Dak, who is holding onto Winger. They both climb back onto Winger's back and Dak admits that speed fishing isn't going to work, and that he has an even better idea which is underwater speed fishing. However, Leyla comes up with her own idea suggesting they head over to the nearby island as they might be able to find food there. Winger turns and starts heading for the island. Burple interrupts the story and says he doesn't remember any of this, and Aggro tells him he wasn't there, and Dak mentions that they didn't know him back then. Burple then tells Leyla and the others to continue the story.
As Leyla, Dak and Winger get closer to the island they have to deal with a little bit of wind. Winger on seeing a river on the island suggests they could fish normally there. Dak says that sounds sort of boring, and Leyla responds to him saying that it sounds safe compared to either of the speed fishing ideas Dak had. As Winger starts to look for a place to land, the wind affects him causing Dak and Leyla to fall off of his back. While Dak is able to grab onto Winger, Leyla isn't and she falls down to the island, falling through some tree branches and landing in the river. Leyla is pushed under water by the river and she swims with the flow, with a nearby dragon swimming right behind her. Leyla is able to grab a log but becomes unconscious, but is woken up by a splash of water. Leyla then climbs up onto the log and initially wonders how she got there, but on realizing the situation wonders how she will get out of there.
Meanwhile, Dak and Winger are shown having crashed into a tree. Dak questions Winger about what just happened to them being a landing, and Winger responds that he calls that a crashing. Dak and Winger get out of the tree and back into the air and head to the river to the spot where they saw Leyla falling. They decide to follow the river to see if they can find Leyla. Meanwhile, back on the log Leyla realizes she is headed towards a waterfall and decides she needs to swim away very quickly but discovers that her satchel is caught on the log. She tries to get free and has no success. Burple interrupts the story wanting to know if Leyla got free. While Aggro thinks Leyla got free, Leyla says she didn't. The story resumes and Leyla and the log fall down the waterfall but Leyla is grabbed by the swimming dragon and placed on dry land. Leyla then hears the dragon go past behind her but doesn't see it.
Burple interrupts the story relieved that someone saved Leyla, as he thought Leyla was doomed. Aggro then tells Burple that he knew Leyla was gonna be okay because she was right there with them. Burple gets it but wonders who keeps saving her and Dak replies that it was Summer who was saving Leyla. Burple acknowledges what Dak says but asks how Summer knew it was Leyla she was saving and Summer replies she didn't. Burple asks Summer why she saved Leyla, which frustrates Aggro who believes Burple is playing with her. Winger then suggests they get back to the story, and Cutter adds that they could explain where Dak and Winger were while Leyla was in so much trouble.
Dak and Winger find Leyla's satchel and Dragon Diary, and Winger wants to know what it means. Dak says they need to start searching from there and adds that they'll search the whole island from top to bottom until they found his sister. Winger then interrupts the story saying that is not how it happened and tells the story as it actually happened. Leyla then continues her story and says after being rescued from the river she was confused and didn't know where she was or how she got there but she knew she was starving, and she spotted an apple tree nearby. Leyla tries to get an apple from the tree and after several jumps grabs the branch, but it ends up breaking causing Leyla to land on her back. Leyla then tosses a rock at the tree and avoids it when it comes back down. Someone laughs nearby, and it catches Leyla's attention. After seeing no one, Leyla gives up on trying to get apples and starts walking away from the apple tree. At that moment a water blast sprays at the tree and knocks some apples free from the tree which causes Leyla to turn back around. Leyla sees the apples on the ground and picks them up and takes a bite of one as she walks away from the apple tree.
Meanwhile, Dak and Winger have finished searching the island having reached the bottom of the river. Winger lands on a beach, and Dak gets off. At that moment eels come up behind Dak, and Winger gets rid of them. Dak thanks him for that, and Winger says it is what he does. Dak then interrupts the story saying that is not how it happened, but they did land on the beach. Going back into the story, Dak and Winger are on the beach when Dak notices the eels and warns Winger. Winger ends up panicking and wastes all of his power blasts. Dak ends up fighting of all the eels and Winger thanks him for it. Dak says it is what he does and then tells Winger that his wild blasting gave him an idea, which is once Winger's power blasts are recharged that he should send them into the air so Leyla can find them.
Winger then interrupts the story and says he didn't panic that much. Cutter interrupts them wanting to get back to Leyla's story, but when Summer remembers Cutter not being interested, Cutter says he's not saying he is just backing up Aggro and Burple who want to hear the story. Aggro replies that she doesn't need Cutter's back up. Leyla then continues her story saying it was getting near sundown so she figured she would need a fire, and that to get one going she needed to clack two rocks together.
After a bit Leyla finally gets a fire going and starts to head off when some water splashes the fire and puts it out. Leyla wonders how that happened and where the water came from. Leyla then makes another fire and then heads off to get more firewood. Water puts out the fire again, and Leyla wants to know who keeps putting out her fires and says she doesn't find it funny. After getting no response Leyla decides she can be sneaky like whoever is putting out the fires so she can catch them. Leyla then creates a third fire and says out loud that she is headed to get more firewood and runs off in one direction at which more water puts out the third fire. However, Leyla discovers the dragon in the bushes and calls her a pesky water dragon.
The dragon, who is alarmed by Leyla sprays her with water and stats running away from her. Leyla gets up immediately and chases after her and tells the water dragon to wait and that she doesn't have to be afraid, but she isn't convinced because she has heard that before from people who intended to harm her. Leyla responds wanting to know who she heard it from before, and the dragon upon hearing Leyla respond to her statement, stops and turns around surprised that Leyla responded to her because it is impossible for her to understand what she said. Leyla tells her it is impossible for most people but not for her. Leyla then introduces herself to the dragon, with the dragon introducing herself to Leyla, revealing her name to be Summer. Summer than asks how Leyla can talk to her and Leyla explains she and her brother Dak were raised by a mother dragon alongside her own son and that she taught them how to speak dragon.
Summer says that that is amazing and Leyla then explains how she got there. Leyla recognizes Summer is a Fastfin, which Summer confirms. Leyla then asks Summer how she got there. Summer explains she was travelling with her pod when they encountered a pirate ship nearby. The people onboard offered them fish and told them not to be afraid but when they got close they tried to catch them in nets. During that Summer got separated from her pod and came to this island to hide from the pirates. Leyla says to Summer she feels bad for what happened to Summer, but realizes that Summer is who did all those things for Leyla earlier. Summer replies that she realized that Leyla could use some help. Leyla thanks her and asks her why she put out her fires, and Summer explains that she put them out because she was worried they could attract pirates.
At that moment Summer notices a net coming their direction and uses her water blast to keep it from hitting them. Four pirates are coming towards Leyla and Summer and have them surrounded. One pirate tells Leyla to get out of the way because they'll be getting Summer. Burple interrupts the story saying he loves a good pirate story and Summer quickly reminds Burple those pirates were trying to grab them. Cutter wants to get back to the story as he wants to know what happens next. Summer says the sneaky pirates had them surrounded, but they weren't going down without a fight, and Leyla agrees. Suddenly the pirates attack, and one grabs Summer's tail with a rope, but Summer flings her off sending her into a tree. Leyla removes the rope from Summer's tail and when Summer sprays another pirate down, Leyla runs up and grabs what that pirate had been holding and stands right next to Summer.
The pirate from before says he doesn't know what Leyla is trying to prove and tells her that there are four of them only one of her. Leyla responds that if they want Summer they have to go through her, and the pirate responds that is what the plan is. Summer than tells Leyla something which she responds to saying that she doesn't like the odds either. A different pirate mocks Leyla's talking to a dragon saying she has been on the island for too long. Leyla then tells Summer to take off and that she'll cover for her. Summer responds to Leyla telling her to make a run for it but Leyla refuses to leave Summer because she saved her life. The pirates then start attacking and Summer and Leyla fend them off, with one tripping and falling into the mud which splashes into Summer's eyes, making it hard for her to see. Leyla then hops onto Summer and tells her to move and then get out of there.
Leyla guides Summer, who can't see due to the mud in her eyes, telling her which direction to go, and eventually telling her to blast a pirate that is right in front of them, which Summer does. Leyla and Summer successfully get away from the pirates and Leyla says that they're safe and now they should go wash out Summer's eyes. At a small lake on the island, Summer comes out of it having washed her eyes and thanks Leyla for rescuing her, and Leyla responds saying they did it together. At that moment they see one of Winger's power blasts and Leyla explains that Dak and Winger are showing her where they are because they haven't been able to find her, and thinks it is a great idea. However, Summer says it isn't as the pirates will see it as well, and Leyla panics knowing that she needs to get there quick. Before Leyla can run off, Summer tells Leyla to hop on her back, and Leyla is happy that Summer is allowing her to get back onto her. After Leyla climbs back onto Summer they head off to find Dak and Winger.
Meanwhile, Dak and Winger are still at the beach waiting for Leyla to come. Unfortunately, the pirates reach the beach and Dak wonders what they want. After the hearing the pirates yelling to get him and Winger, Dak realizes his question is answered. The pirates then attack but Dak and Winger are able to defeat them without a power blast, which Dak boasts about. Summer interrupts the story and says that the two of them could have used one because things looked way different when Leyla and Summer got there. The story resumes and shows that Winger has been captured in a net and Dak is trying to get to him but is kept away by the pirates. The situation looks dire until Dak hears Leyla yell for him to duck, and Summer hits the pirate with a water blast as soon as Dak ducks. Summer than swings around and blasts the pirates away from Winger and frees him from the net.
Winger asks Leyla who her new friend is, and Summer tells him her name and Leyla says she'll explain later, but they need to leave the island before more pirates show up. All four then leave the island and go to a nearby sea stack and Leyla and Summer explain to them that those pirates were dragon hunting. Leyla then mentions that it was a good thing that she and Summer found Dak and Winger in time. Dak then returns Leyla's satchel and diary that he had found earlier, and Leyla thanks him. Leyla then mentions she is glad to have a fire that Summer isn't trying to put out, and Summer says they are far enough away from the pirates now. Leyla then asks Summer if she is gonna go back, and Summer said she isn't sure because it has been weeks since she was separated from her pod and there is nothing left for her back on the island. Leyla then invites Summer to join her, Dak and Winger.
Burple then interrupts the story claiming that is not how the last thing happened, and Summer tells him he wasn't there. Burple then explains what he thought actually happened and is told by Aggro that what he mentioned was when she joined the team. Back in the story, Summer asks about what they would do if she joined them, and Leyla gives a few examples, and Dak mentions she could teach them how to fish better. Summer then went into the water and quickly got some fish and brought them up to the sea stack. Upon being asked how she got fish so easily, she said she did under water speed-fishing which works every time.
Leyla again asks if she is going to join them and Summer says yes. After eating, they leave the sea stack to head elsewhere. Upon hearing Dak's stomach rumble, Leyla asks him if he is still hungry, and he says yes. Summer then mentions that she knows where they can find lots of lobsters at high tide, which Leyla says is now, with both of them saying it is because of the full moon. Leyla and Summer then get in a discussion about how the moon affects tides, and Winger observes that those two are perfect for each other, and Dak agrees. The story ends and Leyla and Summer share a hug with the others watching. On hearing Cutter crying Burple asks him if he is crying and Cutter says he is crying tears of happiness because the snow has stopped. Dak runs to the door and opens it and a big pile of snow falls on him. Leyla then says story time is over and it is now time to dig her brother out. Dak pops up out of the snow shivering and mentions that what just happened will make a great story someday.
