Hobs is a male Hobgobbler that first appeared in Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Biography[]

Bonding with Philip Baker[]

In "Hobs and Saw", a stray Hobgobbler finds his way to the surface and starts nibbling on the sensors in which he hurts himself and triggers the alarm, so when Phil and D'Angelo went to check on it thinking it could be Buzzsaw they were surprised to see the little dragon. However, the Hobgobbler was choking on a piece of the sensor in which Phil tapped it out of him which made the little dragon take a liking too him and becoming loyal him despite Phil's negative opinion of the dragons. After D'Angelo examined the Hobgobbler to check if he was okay he finds out the dragon is injured and cannot return to the Hidden World until its healed which really started to bother Phil as he wanted it gone. Things got worse when it followed them home and wouldn't leave Phil alone and then D'Angelo and Angela outvoted Phil that the Hobgobbler should stay here and then the little dragon kept following him and making things hard for him. Phil had enough of the Hobgobbler and put him outside but it assumed he didn't want anything to do with it anymore so it went back to the Hidden World despite being vulnerable to predators. Having learned of this, D'Angelo and Phil went to the dragon world to retrieve the Hobgobbler before it got itself killed. When they found it the dragon wasn't happy to see Phil, but then when a Speed Stinger was closing in, they took the Hobgobbler and got to safety before the Speed Stinger could find them. Awhile later, when it did find them and was about to kill Phil, the Hobgobbler bit the tail and held back the Speed Stinger from hurting Phil. After this Phil lets the Hobgobbler stay and assigns him to keep lookout for escaped dragons and Buzzsaw, and then names him Hobs.

In "In the Cards", when Hobs was patrolling the forest area and spotted some chewed up fake eels and alerted Philip about this, who called the riders to handle whatever dragon did this. Eugene tries to accuse Hobs for the mess however he angrily growls at him making him back off in fear, as the Chief returns to ICARIS Hobs growls at the riders as if he was ordering them to solve this matter. Later while helping Philip and Pete move some boxes they encounter two Typhoomerangs and take cover, then as the Typhoomerangs start falling on fire towards Rakke Town Hobs helps Philip with an evacuation to get everyone to safety.

In "Eugene's Lean Mean Extreme Dream Team", when Eugene forms his own dragon rider team, one of the dragons he recruits Hobs who looks really bored as Eugene gives his speech. Hobs then eats all the provided snacks which was the only reason Pete was there but Eugene blackmails him in staying. Later Eugene tries to have Pete bond with Hobs but fails as Pete places his hand on Hob's butt and the second time though Pete places his hand on Hob's face but Hobs licks it and covers Pete's hand in saliva. After numerous failed lessons Eugene disbands the team in which Hobs most likely went back to work being the look out.

In "404 Alex Not Found", when D'Angelo goes to see Alex he mentions Hobs getting his fire saliva all over a machine the Dragon Hospital so he asks Alex if she can fix it.

Mr. Rakke's Visit[]

In "The Great Foster Fake-Out", Hobs was sitting on Philip's shoulder happily watching everyone adopt a foster dragon but when they notice no one wanted the Magma Breather they took pity on the it, D'Angelo was skeptical about it joining the family and stated Hobs wouldn't be okay with it but that fails as Hobs and the Magma Breather are happily nuzzling each other. But when Mr Rakke arrives Hobs was taken to the Hanger to be hidden away where he assisted Philip in making sure all of them were inside but felt with resistance from the Magma breather being lazy, soon though they were all in the hanger but Hobs and Philip were annoyed with Magma Breather's insubordination although when it belched outa bunch of lava it caused Hobs to run away from it and as the alarm went off Hobs ran scared with the other dragons as they escaped the hanger. Hobs and the other dragons began running around going nuts infront of the station but were eventually were gathered inside into the visitor centre. But when Mr Rakke was coming towards there Olivia and Tom forced Hobs and a few other dragons into the elevator to take them to a different floor.

In "Ragnarok: Part 2", when May informs Olivia that ICARIS must be closed Olivia gestures to Philip who's petting Hobs saying everyone in Rakke Town loves their dragons and wouldn't be okay with departing with them, however as they hear a commotion outside Hobs looks with everyone else out the window to see that Jörmungandr had made it to the surface. When the World Serpent attacked Rakke Town Philip hides behind a dome holding Hobs tight for his protection. Eventually when the disaster was over and the dragons went back to the Hidden World, Hobs and the other fosters went back too as Philip stated he was happy and okay to lie to Mr Rakke if it meant Hobs and the dragons would be safe.

Physical Appearance[]

Hobs has the typical appearance of the rest of his species, being dark purple with a light under belly.

Personality[]

Hobs is a curious little Hobgobbler as he ventured out of the Hidden World and decided to chew on some of the ICARIS Sensors. He's also shown to be very loyal as after Philip saved his life making him constantly follow the man around. Even though still being a dragon some of his species habits can make him a bit off a nuisance, above all he's still loyal as he was willing to fight a Speed Stinger to save Philip. Although he can get a little annoyed and upset when Philip forced him outside disowning him which upset him and when they saw each other again Hobs wasn't happy to see him.

Abilities[]

Flammable saliva: Like all Hobgobblers, Hobs has the ability erode materials with his saliva.

Strength: Hobs, despite being much smaller, was able to hold back a Speed Stinger from attacking Philip.

Relationships[]

Philip Baker[]

Hobs tripped a sensor early in the morning, which caused Philip and D'Angelo Baker to race to the area, thinking it was Buzzsaw. They got there, but found Hobs choking on a sensor chunk. Phil saved him, which caused the little dragon to bond with him. Hobs started following him around, with Phil trying to avoid him and get rid of him. Phil kicked Hobs out, so he went to the Ice Realm, still with a wounded wing and leg. Phil and D'Angelo went to save him, which led to them being attacked by a Speed Stinger. Phil told D'Angelo to run with Hobs, while Phil faced off with the Speed Stinger, but the dragon pushed him down against a snow mound. Right before it got him, Hobs saved Phil by grabbing the Speed Stinger's tail and tugged it until the stinger shrieked in pain. The Speed Stinger ran away, and Phil, upon seeing Hobs' loyalty and heroism, decided to keep the Hobgobbler as his dragon.

D'Angelo Baker[]

Despite being much more loyal to Philip, Hobs does seem to trust D'Angelo since he was willing to take care of wounds. And because he was injured, D'Angelo wouldn't let him return back to the Hidden World until he was better again, plus he and his mother were willing to keep him around their dome despite what Philip thought. Even after Philip allowed Hobs to stay with them, he's only allowed to sleep in D'Angelo's room.

Angela Baker[]

Though not interacting much, Angela did think he was cute, and that having Hobs around the house as a pet would be nice idea. So, she sided with D'Angelo in keeping him.

Pete[]

When joining Eugene's team, Pete tries to bond with Hobs but doesn't really connect with the little dragon, which led him to wash to hands twice. Although the two don't seem to have any issues with each other.

Appearances[]
