Hiccup's Dragon Scale Armor is a full-body suit of armor with foldable wingflaps worn by Hiccup during the events of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
Official Description[]
“ | The suit was designed to look like Hiccup's beloved dragon, Toothless, and it exemplifies a large part of Toothless' fierce characteristics and fearless personality. | ” |

History[]
Creation[]
At some point between How to Train Your Dragon 2 and the third movie (a span of about a year), Hiccup's armor was constructed. As stated in Dragons: Titan Uprising, the suit was supposedly created in order to give proper belly rubs to the Gronckle Molten Magmannette.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World[]
Hiccup is first seen wearing the armor during a raid on a Dragon Trapper ship, where he explains its properties to the confused Ivar.
Hiccup dons the armor again during his failed attempt to capture Grimmel the Grisly as well as when he and Astrid find Toothless in the Hidden World.
Parts of the armor are knocked off and damaged during the final battle against Grimmel, and Hiccup is not seen using it again ten years after the dragons’ departure to the Hidden World.
Physical Appearance[]
Hiccup's dragon scale armor appears to be formed of several different pieces tailored to fit his body. There is the helmet, pauldrons, chest plating, a scaled cod piece, torso guards, gauntlet and gloves, scaled leggings and knee guards, and a single boot. There are also two wing structures kept folded for flight when needed. The suit is made out of Toothless' shed scales, so has a predominantly black color. The scales appear to be attached to a black leather base, presumably with Toothless' sticky saliva as the gluing agent. The whole suit is further embellished with a fin on the helmet to streamline flight, as well as belts and holsters to carry items such as the Inferno.
Functions[]
- Fireproof Armor: Due to its construction from Toothless' scales, Hiccup's dragon scale armor is effectively impervious to fire. It is unknown if the non-scale portions are also treated in some way to be fire-retardant. As a suit of armor, it affords some protection from attack, much better than normal clothing. However, dragon skin and scales can be cut and pierced, so the armor is not fully protective from all attack.
- Flightsuit: Using his successes with previous flightsuit iterations, Hiccup has incorporated a flightsuit within his armor. This allows him to glide and fly in the air independently of dragon transportation for a time.
- Electric Resistance: Due to the fact that this suit has been constructed out of Toothless' scales, the armor allows Hiccup to be immune to being zapped to death by lightning as only the remaining four Deathgrippers were affected by it.
- Cloaking: Due to the fact that this suit has been constructed out of Toothless' scales, they can turn mirror-like if he travels through one of his electricity-charged plasma blasts.

Trivia[]
- The use of dragon scales as armor is a concept that goes back to the book series where Hiccup and various other characters use "fire-suits" that is made of dragon scales and is also heat resistant like it is shown in the third film.
- Hiccup is the second known character to have constructed something impervious to dragon-fire, with the first being Drago Bludvist (cape made of black dragon scales).
- This flame-resistant fire suit is made up of 3,620 dragon scales.[1]
- Hiccup’s dragon scale armor was possibly made as an upgrade feature of his previous inventions including his flightsuit and helmet.
- In 2022, Dreamworks released an action figure
- The fire suit of the modern-world dragon rider: Tom Kullersen, who is Hiccup’s descendant, is shown to be very similar to Hiccup’s Dragon Scale Armor in both color and design.
