Biography[]

Discovering the World on Dragonback[]

Like many young Hooligan Vikings, Hagan has an itch to explore the world outside of Berk. When he finally bonds with a Monstrous Nightmare, his parents allow him to attend the School of Dragons. From there he is allowed to explore surrounding islands and satisfy his adventurous urges.

I have always loved Berk, but for years, I felt confined to my small corner of the world. We had ships, but I was always too young to sail out, according to my parents. To them, I was always too young. That is, until they both agreed that I could attend the School of Dragons and train my very own dragon.
I had never felt as much freedom as the day I first hopped on the back of the Monstrous Nightmare that I had named Flick. As we flew up through the clouds, I felt a freedom that before then was nothing more than a dream. I felt like a god. The world was mine. I could explore!
I thought of all of the mysterious lands that Hiccup and his friends had already discovered and mapped. I wondered if I could do better. I wanted to be the most daring explorer the archipelago had ever seen! With Flick, we could go out and see the world together whenever we wanted.

Hagan and Flick also visit various locations around the Archipelago, such as the creepy Ship Graveyard.

The creaks and groans of ships long forgotten blended with the sounds of waves crashing against rocks and wood. As I glided over the debris that remained of the lost ships, I spared a thought for those who had fallen prey to the stormy waters and jagged rocks. I could not focus on that, though. My Monstrous Nightmare, Flick, and I had decided to explore what the darkness held. We didn’t consider the danger that was ever-present at the Ship Graveyard. All we could think of were the mysteries and that lurked beneath the murky sea and stored within the bashed hulls of ships.

Training and Bonding With His Dragon[]

Hagan is a student at the School of Dragons. There he trains with his dragon, a Monstrous Nightmare named Flick, by playing tactical games such as Flight Club (flight practice) and Fire Ball Frenzy (shooting game). His training is observed and noted by a teacher named Axel Skeptisson.

There was nothing Hagan Boilson loved more than his Monstrous Nightmare, Flick. As an instructor at the School of Dragons, I liked to watch young Vikings and their dragons to see how their training was going. I couldn’t help but be proud of my pupil as I observed him and his dragon one day...
Hagan Boilson rubbed the snout of Flick. “Good boy,” he said. “You did so well in Flight Club today, how about another fish?”
Flick panted, his tongue lolling out in anticipation for the delicious treat. Hagan laughed and tossed a halibut at the red dragon. As Flick focused on scarfing down his feast, Hagan scratched his best friend’s head affectionately.
“So, what else should we do today, Flick? I was thinking we might get a couple of rounds in over at Fireball Frenzy. What do you say?” Hagan asked.
Flick jumped up and down excitedly, flapping his big wings. He lightly bit Hagan’s shirtsleeve and started tugging him towards the Fireball Frenzy Arena. Hagan laughed, “Okay, okay boy! I’ve never seen you so excited for fire training before!”
Together, the two friends set off to continue their training, confident that the two would be the greatest heroes Berk had ever seen.
It warms my warrior heart to see such a friendship blossom between a trainer and his dragon. It reminds me of when I first began training my very own dragon. It’s a day a Viking can never forget!
  — From the Journal of Axel Skeptisson[4]
