Gretel is an antagonist planned to be teased in the unpublished graphic novel The Fire Tides. She is the identical twin sister of Gothi.

Biography[]

Plans for Revenge[]

According to an interview with Richard Hamilton regarding the plans for The Fire Tides, Gretel gave up her eyes to become her tribe's Wise Woman, while her twin sister Gothi gave up her voice to become her tribe's Wise Woman.

In a flashback, shortly after being taken to what would become known as her santuary, Valka is seen stumbling upon Gretel sitting in front of a campfire and scribbling on the ground. Valka mistakes Gretel for Gothi, until the younger woman notices a red blindfold over the older woman's eyes, and the ability to speak. Gretel tells Valka she knows who she is, and swears revenge on Berk and Gothi for the loss of her eyes.[1]

Physical Appearance[]

As Gothi's identical twin sister, Gretel is said to look identical to her, except for a red blindfold over her eyes.

Personality[]

Gretel holds animosity toward her sister and Berk over the loss of her eyes, and craves revenge, suggesting she tends to hold onto grudges and is willing to turn to violence.

Relationships[]

Gothi[]

Gothi is Gretel's identical twin sister. During their younger years, they each faced losing one of their senses in order to become Wise Women of their respective tribes. Gretel has had feelings of anger toward her sister ever since.

Valka[]

Gretel had a brief encounter with Valka in what would become known as Valka's Mountain shortly after Valka arrived. It wasn’t a friendly encounter.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • In his interview, Richard Hamilton suggested that if The Fire Tides had been published and a fourth graphic novel had been ordered, the fourth would involve Gretel leading an armada of Berk's unreformed villains including Calder to get their revenge on Berk, leading to a great battle.[1]
