Goats are livestock that are only mentioned but not seen in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise.
Description[]
There are no images of goats in the Franchise, but generally domestic goats (Capra aegagrus hircus) are horned ruminants closely related to Sheep and more distantly related to Cattle (and Yak). They come in a variety of breeds and colors. They have cloven hooves and are especially sure-footed in rocky terrain. They are able to eat weeds, scrub, and sometimes plant material that may be toxic to other animals.
Function[]
As can be implied by Gobber the Belch's statement, Goats on Berk are used for milk production and perhaps as pets. Many of the Viking Helmets seen throughout the Franchise might possibly be goat horns, too.
Historically, in addition to milk and dairy products, goats were also raised for meat. Some goat breeds are also used specifically for fiber, as well.
Norse Mythology[]
Historically, Goats had a place in Norse Mythology and religion. The God of Thunder, Thor, had a chariot pulled by two goats. He would eat these goats every night. If all their bones and hide were kept intact, the goats would supposedly come back to life in the morning. There is also the tradition of the Yule Goat at Christmas time in some Scandinavian countries, that predates Christianity.

Gobber revealed that he used to owned a goat in "Animal House", when his mother moved in with him, she scared the goat so much she couldn't give milk.
Snotlout suggests that Bork the Bold could climb like a mountain goat in "We Are Family, Part 1", as the teens are trying to find what they believed to be Bork's cave above a cliff called Odin's Shield.

- In June of 2017, the School of Dragons Forum posted a Poll asking players what new animal they would like to see in game. Goat was one option, but did not win the poll. This suggests that in the future, the game staff may consider adding goats to the game.
