How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

Freya'sday Eve is a once-a-year holiday for multiple Viking tribes in the Barbaric Archipelago in the How to Train Your Dragon Book series.

History[]

Freya'sday Eve commemorates the season change between Winter and Spring. Based on the name, it is associated with the Goddess of fertility - Freya. It is an annual event.

Historically, there is not evidence that Freya had a celebration or ritual during that time of year. Instead, the Germanic Goddess Ēostre (also called Ostara) has been associated with Spring. The Christianized holiday became known as "Easter". Some scholars do connect Freya with Eostre, but lack of data prevents a strong connection.

Holiday Activities[]

To celebrate Freya'sday Eve the Bog-Burglar Tribe and Hairy Hooligan Tribe hold a joint festival called Freya'sday Fete.

The Hysteric Tribe holds a huge tribal feast in the village Great Hall in the evening and through the night.

Them Hysterics is having a b-b-banquet for Freya'sday Eve ... looksa scrummy.

The variety of foods seen at the feast is further described:

The long central table was loaded high with fish, flesh, and fowl cooked in every possible manner, whole stags, entire pigs, and brimming cups of beer and wine.

In addition to the varied food and drink, onion soup is also served as the traditional dish for Freya'sday Eve.

the traditional dish was onion soup, and on Hysteria it was served in a truly gigantic cauldron, two meters wide and a meter deep. ... but the Hysterics only served Onion Soup because it was the traditional thing to do, and had hardly touched it.
