The dragon club examines the leftover traces of Thunder's battle, and then they discover footprints, which reveal that the lightning they saw earlier was coming from a battle between Thunder and the unknown lightning dragon that chased his family away. Thunder wants revenge against the dragon that chased off his family and follows its footprints, with Tom and others right behind him. Meanwhile, Eugene finally breaks into Jun's room and tries to get into Jun's computer but can't crack her password.

The dragon club follows Thunder into a crystal maze and Thunder follows roaring from the lightning dragon. The group is initially stalled by translucent crystal walls that are impossible to see, but Tom finds a path through and keeps following Thunder and the other refuse to abandon him despite their frustrations with him. Thunder eventually finds his target: a sleeping Titan Wing Skrill. Seeing how large and dangerous the Skrill is, Tom tries to steer Thunder away from fighting it out of revenge, but Thunder's growling wakes it up. With no choice but to fight, the dragon club fights the Skrill, but the Skrill is too strong and the group retreats. The Skrill chases the group through the crystal maze, and everyone gets separated from each other. A dangerous search begins with the dragon riders trying to find each other to before the Skrill finds them. Jun, D'Angelo, and Alex each are almost found by the Skrill, but managed to hide from it and find each other. Tom continues to try and steer Thunder away from taking revenge and promises to help find Thunder's family, admitting they both need to be more trusting to others. However, Thunder runs off to confront the Skrill and tries to keep Tom out of the fight. The two dragons battle, but Thunder is outmatched by the Skrill. Tom is found by the others, and they work together to fight the Skrill.

Eugene continues to fail to access Jun's computer and finds her journal containing her illustrations of the dragons but dismisses it as worthless and leaves in failure. Back at the battle, Tom discovers there are veins of silver in the crystals that draw the Skrill's lightning away. They retreat again and Tom comes up with a plan to a use a crystal shard to absorb the Skrill's lightning. Tom promises not to act alone anymore after the battle and asks for their trust in their plans, and Jun answers they trust him as a family. The dragon riders face the Skrill for a third time, but the Skrill quickly defeats everyone but Tom and Thunder. Thunder and the Skrill clash their lightning blasts and Tom uses his crystal shard to absorb the Skrill's lightning and redirect it through Thunder, supercharging his lightning blast. The Skrill is blasted into a wall and defeated. The other dragon riders promise to help Thunder find his family and find Tom answers about his ancestors. The Skrill retreats through a hole in the wall created by Thunder's blast that connects to a new realm filled with lava. Furthermore, Tom finds a spearhead with the same Strike Class symbol on his helmet. Tom realizes they aren't the first people to find the dragon world and vows to find answers.
