Aside from Gobber, Fishlegs is the only one who is nice to Hiccup and doesn't ridicule him in any way (in the beginning). They were partnered up against the Hideous Zippleback in which Hiccup had to silence Fishlegs when he was spewing out dragon facts nonstop. Fishlegs was the first to applaud Hiccup for his growing successes in the ring and when Hiccup won the Trial of Flame, he carried Hiccup on his shoulder in triumph.
