How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

I don't think anybody should know about you right now.
  — Tom

"First Flight, Part 2" is the second episode of the first season of Dragons: The Nine Realms.

Synopsis[]

Tom forges a friendship with the dragon and discovers an entire world of dragons within the fissure.

Plot[]

Tom manages to turn his light back on and use it to spook the dragon away, much to his relief. He tries to climb back up, but a part of the rock wall breaks loose, and he falls. Before he can fall into the fissure, he is saved by the dragon who brings him into a cave. Tom tries to calm down the dragon by showing his light is harmless and wonders what creature it is. He looks for a way out and discovers the cave is much larger than he thought while the dragon smells something and begins to show signs of hunger. When Tom finds a hole leading out of the cave, the dragon pounces on him, but only to get at his backpack. Tom considers taking a picture of the dragon but decides it would be better if it was kept a secret as the dragon eats a pack of Cheezy Loops snacks from his backpack.

Realizing the dragon is hungry, Tom decides to get it something to eat. The dragon takes Tom out of the cave and releases an electric pulse that disables ICARIS' security and power before dropping Tom off at a platform and flying off. Tom is amazed by the experience and tries to go home but is caught by Philip. When Tom is brought home, Olivia is outraged at his disobedience and reckless self-endangerment and forbids him from returning to the station outside of classes and getting anywhere near the fissure. Though depressed, Tom still wonders about the dragon, not knowing it is watching him from a distance.

The next day, Tom starts his new classes with the other kids, but D'Angelo is suspicious of Tom's antics. Jun talks to Tom about what happened last night, and Tom describes the creature he encountered which Jun believes may be a dragon. Tom is skeptical about dragons being real, but Jun believes the countless stories of dragons must have come from somewhere and that they must be real. Alex, in a rare moment of chattiness, points out that if dragons were real, they would be hunted and exploited to the point of extinction; a real dragon would be a dead dragon. After class, Jun tries to continue to convince Tom that dragons are real, but is distracted by the sound of thunder, giving Tom a chance to sneak off. Tom grabs some food for the dragon from his house and finds his mom is there to get some supplies. He asks his mom about what will happen if they discover something new from the fissure, having doubts about Rakke Corp, ICARIS' source of funding, after what Alex said. Olivia explains Rakke Corp is expecting something profitable from the fissure and knows Tom is hiding something, but before he can talk about the dragon, Olivia is called away to talk with Rakke Corp about the recent earthquakes and Tom decides to keep the dragon a secret.

Tom begins searching his classroom for geographical maps for the cave's location and is found by Alex. Alex explains that the old maps are useless because the fissure shifted everything around and offers to give him the current accurate maps that she hacked off the ICARIS servers. When Tom goes out to bring food to the dragon, Jun tries to follow him, but loses him when he has an encounter with the sheep his drone crashed into. Tom finds the cave and calls out to the dragon to give it some food. However, the dragon rejects every food option Tom gives him until it finds a pack of frozen fish treats that leads Tom to discover Dragons eat fish. While spending time with the dragon, Tom manages to form a bond with it and allows it to carry him on a flight through the fissure. The flight is interrupted by falling debris from an earthquake that causes the dragon to lose his hold on Tom. During the fall, Tom ends up falling on the dragon's back and rides it to safety. They land at a cave with a light coming from behind a wall and after some digging, discovers it leads to a crystalline realm filled with dragons.
