Hiccup's Viking Helmet is a head covering belonging to Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III that has special significance and seen early on in the Franchise.
History[]
How to Train Your Dragon[]
Hiccup is given a helmet made from half of his late mother's breastplate. It has two horns on each side forming a semicircle shape.
Hiccup finds it a little awkward, but still wears it during dragon training. By the time he faces the Monstrous Nightmare, Hiccup throws the helmet on the ground to show the dragon he's not like the other Vikings because he doesn't support the Vikings' custom of killing dragons.
Gift of the Night Fury[]
Hiccup's helmet fell into the sea when a dragon knocked it over while he was flying. Toothless wanted to retrieve it but Hiccup insisted returning to the village. After Hiccup made Toothless an automatic tail fin, Toothless disappeared. Hiccup was wondering where he went and if he would spend a Snoggletog without him. However, Toothless had vanished in order to retrieve the helmet. Hiccup was really happy, showing that he treasures it a lot.
Dragons: Riders of Berk[]
In "The Terrible Twos", a baby Typhoomerang named Torch plays with the helmet in Hiccup's bedroom as he attempts to draw him.
Bucket's more accurate portrait of Hiccup has Hiccup wearing his Viking helmet in "Portrait of Hiccup as a Buff Man".
Hiccup's helmet was seen at the foot of his bed when he's looking over Bork's notes in "We Are Family, Part 1".
Dragons: Defenders of Berk[]
In "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", Smothering Smokebreaths tried to take the helmet, but Hiccup was able to get it back, along with his leg.
In “Bing! Bam! Boom!”, Hiccup’s helmet is seen for the last time.
Physical Appearance[]
Hiccup's Helmet has a simple design. The bowl-shaped metal has two curved horns on opposite sides, that appear to possibly be bovine horns. There is a dent on the left side.
Function[]
- Head protection: A helmet's primary function is as a protective head covering. However, Hiccup's Helmet additionally has a sentimental value as it is made out of is deceased mother's breast plate (thought to be deceased at the time of the helmet's creation). It also serves as a sort of symbol of rite-of-Passage when Hiccup's father gives it to him.
