Feathers is a colorful Featherhide dragon in the Mystery Class with beautiful scales that resemble the plumage of an exotic jungle bird. She can be shy, and her ability to blend into the environment like a chameleon is vital to keeping herself a secret.

Still, after finding a kindred spirit in Alex, she blooms into an exuberant and affectionate dragon with a very short attention span. She’s super friendly and playful, like a puppy, and sometimes needs extra attention because she’s always trying to play games with other dragons.

Physical Appearance[]

Feathers is an exotic dragon with a crown of feather-like scales on her head, big yellow eyes, long neck, long legs and a long tail with a tailfin of feather-like scales. Her legs have fins behind them, Feathers' wings are big and colorful and her scales are cyan and red, with the ends of her feather-like scales being yellow.

Personality[]

Like a small puppy, Feathers followed the Dragon Club back to ICARIS while she was cloaked and became very curious of Alex. She snuck through an open window into Alex's dome in Rakke Town where she first encountered the human. This resulted in the pair scaring each other. However, with Tom's advice, Alex carefully reached out her hand and touched the shy Featherhide, as she uncloaked herself, trusting Alex.

When on their way from Rakke Town to the lair cave, Feathers saw Alex's mothers. She attempted to run over to them, thinking they were nice like her. Alex attempted to call Feathers back, knowing it was too dangerous for the dragon to be seen by other humans. The Featherhide sensed Alex's distress and returned to her, wanting to comfort and calm her down, something Alex came to realize.

Feathers is noticeably braver than Alex and is very playful, affectionate and funny. However, she is very shy and has a short attention span. Feathers also has a mischievous side when he uses his camouflage to approach Tom or D Angelou without being seen to scare them.

Abilities, Talents, and Skills[]

  • Sonic Scream: Like the Thunderdrum, Feathers can unleash a Sonic Scream Blast which can disorient humans and dragons alike. Even a powerful Fault Ripper dragon is sensitive to this scream, though this was because of its natural susceptibility to sound. The scream is strong enough to knock down fully grown adults.
  • Sound Mimicry: Feathers can perfectly mimic sounds (such as a microwave's ping), and even the voices or sounds of humans, dragons and animals.
  • Intelligence: Feathers is shown to be very smart as she is able to follow Alex's whistles, hand signals, and commands perfectly.

Relationships[]

Main article: Alex and Feathers' Relationship

FR-69-Alex-Feathers

Feathers' and Alex's close bond.

Feathers was very curious about Alex, and followed her to her dome, gaining access through an open window. Feathers ran amok in her home out of fear of Alex and the other Dragon Riders and her new surroundings. Thanks to Tom's guidance, Alex was able to form a bond with her. Initially, Alex was very reluctant to do this, as when she was younger, a dog followed her in a similar manner to Feathers, only to bite her. However, through Tom's reassurance, Alex overcame her fear of Feathers, and bonded with her. Immediately upon seeing Feathers in her uncloaked form, Alex was awestruck by how beautiful she is and quickly formed a friendship with the dragon.

When both females were trying to get back to the dragons' lair cave, Feathers almost ran to Alex's mothers, who were trying to catch fireflies. However, she noticed that Alex was worried for her, and the dragon immediately returned back to Alex to comfort and calm her down, which made Alex realize that Feathers understands her feelings. When Carla and Hazel were getting closer, Feathers hid Alex under her wing in her camouflaged form so they wouldn't be seen. Luckily, they weren't caught, and Feathers and Alex's bond got stronger. They immediately became new members of the Dragon Club.

In Dragons of the Undead, Feathers saw the lengths Alex was willing to go to save her from the molting Featherhides. After freeing the other Featherhides from their molting skins, Feathers chose to stay with her rider, their bond becoming even stronger. Alex and Feathers treat each other like sisters.

Tom Kullersen[]

Feathers was initially wary of Tom, which grew when the boy and D'Angelo tried to roughly catch the dragon when she was running loose inside Alex's home. Even when Tom tried to touch Feathers to bond with her, the dragon still wouldn't trust him after he had tried to catch her. It wasn't until after Feathers bonded with Alex that the dragon opened up to Tom and the other members of the Dragon Club. Since then, they have been on good terms with each other.

In Poison Control, Feathers let Tom ride her to take him to Buzzsaw after he poisoned Thunder hoping that Buzzsaw would give him the antidote in exchange for the Dragon Book only for it to turn out to be false that he had antidote. Just when Buzzsaw was going to shoot a poison dart at Tom, Feathers saves him showing that she cares for his well-being, although exposing herself has caused Feathers to be hit by a poison dart but she is later cured just like Thunder by eating slugs thanks to D'Angelo.

Sometimes Feathers tends to use her camouflage to approach Tom unseen to scare him once she takes off her camouflage.

Jun Wong[]

Feathers is shown to get along well with Jun. When Feathers first encountered the Dragon Club after sneaking into Alex's dome, Jun was the only rider that didn't chase her around the house, instead acknowledging that doing so only scared the Featherhide. Since bonding with Alex and joining the Club, Feathers and Jun have since become friends with one another, with Jun appreciating the positive impact Feathers has had on Alex by helping her overcome her fears of the outside and maturing as an individual.

D'Angelo Baker[]

D'Angelo first encountered Feathers along with Tom and Jun when she had sneaked into Alex's dome. After discovering that she was invisible, D'Angelo, along with Tom, attempted to chase and catch her, which only served to frighten her, causing her to be initially distrustful of D'Angelo. After bonding with Alex, however, their relationship improved, with them becoming friends. D'Angelo acknowledges and appreciates the positive impact Feathers has on Alex, while also admiring her invisibility power. Feathers, in turn, recognizes D'Angelo as an ally and has shown herself to be protective of him sometimes during dangerous situations, such as when she used her cloaking power to hide him and Alex from Thunder's Skrill nemesis. Occasionally, however, Feathers will sometimes play tricks on D'Angelo by using her cloaking and then popping up in front of him in order to scare him, to his chagrin.

Eugene Wong[]

Like most of the Dragon Club's dragons, Feathers has shown to have a rather difficult relationship with Eugene, due to his occasional immaturity and obnoxious attitude. Initially, she and Eugene first started out as enemies when he attempted to expose the secret of dragons by showing off the Fireworm Glowmer to the Rakke Corp's scientists, during which the invisible Feathers foiled Eugene's attempts by tripping him to ground before he could show off the small dragon.

When Eugene eventually discovered the Dragon Club's lair, Feathers was the one to discover him, using her invisibility to catch him spying on the riders, during which she viciously screeched at him, much to his terror. Even when the Club considered making Eugene a rider, Feathers still displayed her dislike of Eugene, often using her invisibility to frighten and play tricks on him, which would continue after he joined the Club. Even after becoming a rider, Feathers still maintains a dislike of Eugene, being annoyed by his occasionally obnoxious and immature personality. She was particularly annoyed in "Magma Comes to the Surface", when the young rider attempted to boss her around into being a pillow for him, causing her to once again turn invisible and trip him as a form of payback. Despite this, she does recognize him as an ally and will both work alongside and protect him during more serious situations.

After saving her and Webmaster from the Yetiwing in "Uncharted Territory", she was so happy to back with her rider, and eventually warmed up to him a little more, enough to let him pet her.

Carla and Hazel Gonzalez[]

Feathers officially meets Alex's mothers, Carla and Hazel, for the first time in "Deep Freeze". Feathers was startled and turns invisible when they demand Alex to explain, leaving them surprised at what they saw. But they were willing to give her a chance to prove dragons could be their friends as they hugged each other while shivering and smiling. Since then, Feathers has shown such great love and respect to both of Alex's moms that she now feels part of the Gonzalez family.

When Jörmungandr threatened all life in the Hidden World and on the surface, they knew that the kids would be sad if ICARIS closed down and the dragons had to return to hiding. Though they were sad Feathers and the dragons did go back to the Hidden World to stay hidden, they still loved Feathers enough to keep her existence a secret.

Thunder[]

Feathers has been shown to have a very close friendship with Thunder, with the Night Light arguably being her closest dragon friend in the Dragon Club and something of an older brother figure to her. Like with Plowhorn and Wu/Wei, Feathers was initially shy around Thunder but quickly warmed up to him after bonding with Alex. When she joined the Dragon Club, Thunder was very welcoming towards her, with the two immediately forming a very close and playful bond with each other. During her first night in the cave, an invisible Feathers popped out from her camouflage to lick Thunder's face before both dragons ran off playing.

Since joining the Club, Feathers has been shown to be quite close to Thunder, acknowledging him as her leader and following him into battle without hesitation. Both dragons care deeply about each other's wellbeing and worry for one another when either is in danger. In "Dragons of the Undead" when Feathers was abducted by a group of other Featherhides, Thunder was shown to be worried and wanted to rescue her despite the dangers it posed to himself and the other riders. Similarly, in "Follow the Lightning, Part 1", Feathers was shown to be very concerned for Thunder when he journeyed into the Hidden World to face his nemesis and went alongside the other Club members and dragons to find him.

In "Heart of Glass", Thunder and Plowhorn finds Wu and Wei trying to pull Feathers out of a hole she's hiding in, she's still injured from the earlier attack by the Glass Caster. Thunder shows he is still going despite being similarly injured and convinces her to come out of the hole. He then rallies the dragons to look for Webmaster and go after the Glass Caster.

Wu and Wei[]

Though Feathers was initially shy of Wu and Wei, she became good friends with the Mist Twister after bonding with Alex and joining the Dragon Club. Like with the other dragons, she is shown to have a very playful relationship with Wu and Wei, with both heads reciprocating Feathers' fun-loving sentiment towards them. They have also been shown to work well together as teammates and are willing to fight alongside each other during battle.

Plowhorn[]

Initially, Feathers was shy around Plowhorn and the other dragons of the Dragon Club, due to her reclusive nature at the time. After bonding with Alex and joining the Club, however, Feathers became good friends with Plowhorn and has grown quite comfortable being around the Gembreaker. Like Thunder and Wu and Wei, Feathers and Plowhorn share a playful relationship, often playing together when not on missions. They enjoy each other's presence and will often work together while on missions with their riders. During such missions, the two dragons, along with their riders, are often paired together, allowing them to form a healthy form of teamwork to overcome the challenges that lie before them.

Webmaster[]

Despite Feathers' usually warm and friendly nature, the young Featherhide has been shown to be usually unwelcoming of Webmaster, the Dragon Club's newest dragon member. This is largely because she, like the other dragons, is very easily annoyed by the Deadly Spinner's pranks alongside his rider, despite them being lighthearted jokes on his part. This has caused Feathers and the other dragons to sometimes alienate Webmaster from the group, much to his sadness. Despite this, Feathers and Webmaster do care about each other, and have been shown to work effectively as teammates on the Dragon Club. Both are willing to fight alongside and risk their lives for each other and have been shown to be effective when combating strong opponents. They also had time to bond with each other when they got lost in a storm in the Ice Realm. Feathers kept Webs safe and accompanied, while Webs kept her warm with a little fire and his wing. Even after being rescued from the Yetiwing, the two dragons nuzzled each other, showing that they were happy to be home with their friends.

Ford, Winston, and Dood[]

In "Downpour", Feathers rescued the three lumberjack employees of the Burne Lumber Company when the three were trapped in a massive forest fire outside of ICARIS. During the rescue, Feathers remained invisible as she carried the three loggers to safety when they found themselves surrounded by the blaze, bringing them to a safer spot where they were soon after evacuated by Olivia Kullersen and Philip Baker. Since she was cloaked while saving them, the three shocked and astonished loggers remained unaware of what Feathers was, assuming her to have been a supernatural force that came to their rescue.

After Seasons 5-7, she now considers them all (Minus Dood) enemies now that they've teamed up with Buzzsaw to help him dominate the Hidden World.

Shadow[]

Though briefly interacting when Shadow starts running around the Lair and runs around Feathers' legs, she doesn't seem to mind the playful dragon.

Olivia Kullersen[]

While they rarely interact, Feathers knows that Olivia is the mother of the club's human leader, Tom, and will do what she can to protect her. Olivia was impressed by her feather-like scales and her ability to cloak. She was even willing to let Tom's mother pet her.

Buzzsaw[]

At first like Alex Feathers didn't fully trust Buzzsaw and after his true identity was exposed he then became an official enemy of hers, and throughout the series, Feathers has been captured by him twice and poisoned too. But in retaliation, she usually does sonic blast to him.

In "Of Gods and Monsters", Buzzsaw came to the riders for help when Jack was injured from an attack by the World Serpent. Feathers felt distrustful of the logger, especially after trying to harm her and her friends, but when she saw that Buzzsaw was telling the truth and fully Bonded with Jack, she began to trust him a little. Buzzsaw also repaid their help by telling them where Sledkin's secret lab was and helping the dragons injured by Jörmungandr while the riders stopped the Serpent.

Wilma Sledkin[]

When Sledkin saw Feathers for the first time it was when she tranquilized Thunder so Alex and Feathers sonic blasted her unconscious, and as Sledkin grew more evil like almost killing the Riders and the dragons in a cave-in like the other dragons Sledkin is an enemy of Feathers.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Feathers got her name due to her feather-like scales on her head and tail, which reminded Alex of the Mesoamerican myth of Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent.
