The Father Night Light is an adult male Night Light who appears in season 4 of Dragons: The Nine Realms. He is the mate of the Mother Night Light, and the father of Thunder, Shadow, Goggles, and Splattertail.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Not much is known about Father Night Light's early life, except at some point he was happily living with his family in the Hidden World until his eldest son got separated after being driven away by a Titan Wing Skrill, Hence the scar on his left shoulder.

Reunion With Thunder[]

In "The Night Lights, Part 1", when Shadow introduces the Riders to Goggles and Splattertail, Thunder's parents then arrive thinking the riders are trying to harm their children. However Thunder jumps in front of Tom and reveals to his parents that he's alive and ok in which they couldn't believe it and are happy he's home. Although, they still didn't trust the riders and began circling them to test whether they were going to hurt them or not. The Father Night Light checks if D'Angelo is a threat, but D'Angelo notices the scar on his shoulder and gives him some soothing cream for it. Though it stings the dragon at first, he then finds it helpful and relaxes the pain away and earns his trust. Happy to be reunited with his son, the Father Night Light along with the rest of Thunder's family fly together in happiness knowing Thunder was home. After flying around for a while, a dragon calls out so the Father Night Light along with his family and the Riders head to the dragon calling out for them. When the Elder Night Light comes out of the cave, the Father and the rest of the Night Lights bow down to him and is introduced to Tom and his friends. But then he is stunned by his sword, the Father Night Light becomes worried and checks on him, and in anger he attacks Tom and knocks him back which then leads to all the Night Lights, except Thunder and Shadow, to attack the riders. After Thunder protects Tom and Shadow explaining it was an accident, all the Night Lights stand down. But as the riders left, two Snow Wraiths arrived attacked the Night Lights causing them all to retreat into their cave while Shadow escaped to the Ice Realm to get the riders.

In "The Night Lights, Part 2", when the Riders return, they find the Night Lights hiding out in the cave and the Father is happy to know that Shadow is ok. They then watch as how the Elder escorts them out thinking they were the ones who brought the Snow Wraiths here and then Thunder's parents take Thunder back into the cave to be safe. After the Snow Wraith knocked out the Rider's dragons allowing them, Thunder, and the Elder to escape, it still lingers around the cave to eat the Night Lights in which the Father makes sure the coast is clear but when it's not he ducks down. When Tom and Thunder lure away the Snow Wraith and Wu and Wei create a mist cloud for cover, the Father grabs Goggles while the Mother grabs Splattertail in which they make their escape with the riders. However, when another Snow Wraith arrives they take cover while Tom, Thunder, Shadow and the Elder deal with it. Once the battle was done, Thunder's parents allowed the baby Night Lights to say goodbye to the riders before they left. When the Elder allowed Thunder to stay with Tom, they couldn't be more happy that Thunder was with his best friend.

Jörmungandr Attack[]

In Ragnarok Part 1, the Kings' Realm was attacked and Father Night Light and Mother Night Light were both gassed while the Elder Night Light had suffered multiple bite wounds and barely managed to fight off Jörmungandr before the Dragon Riders arrived due to Alex's sensors detecting Jörmungandr in said Realm. They were brought into their cave home where D'Angelo treated them and they were recovering.

In Ragnarok Part 2, the Father Night Light and Mother Night Light are seen again in their cave home with their young as Thunder arrives back home as the new King of the Nine Realms after the Elder sadly passed away in the battle against Jörmungandr in the Nature Realm.

Physical Appearance[]

Father Night Light, much like Thunder, Toothless, and the Elder, bears a striking resemblance in terms of appearance. He is predominantly black, akin to a Night Light, with white patches adorning his feet and two white spots just above them. While he closely resembles a Night Fury, Father Night Light exhibits a more robust and muscular physique, in contrast to the sleeker build typically associated with Night Furies. Notably, his wings are narrower, similar to Thunder's, extending only to his mid-side instead of reaching the base of the tail fins as seen in Night Furies. These wings feature a solitary claw-like spike on each, covered in scales. His back and spines are white, along with white spots along the sides of his body. At the base of his tail, where it meets his body, Father Night Light possesses a pair of tail fins, but instead of the conventional flukes found in Furies, he boasts a single webbed sail at the tip. Furthermore, he bears a scar on his left shoulder. In contrast to his son and mate, Father Night Light's scales exhibit a rough texture when touched.

Personality[]

Just like his mate, Father Night Light is very protective of his young, mate, and the Elder.

He was at first untrusting of Tom and the other humans, warily investigated them. When D'Angelo noticed the scars on his left shoulder, he puts ointment on it, which stung for a moment before taking away the pain, making him relax, and becoming more trusting towards the humans.

Thunder's Father exhibits behavior that aligns with typical patterns observed in his species. Once trust is established, he displays reduced levels of tension. However, if any harm befalls one of his kin, he undergoes a significant shift in behavior, becoming highly aggressive towards the individual responsible. Notably, Thunder's Father holds a deep respect for the Elder Night Light and demonstrates a strong protective instinct towards both the Elder and his own offspring.

Relationships[]

Elder Night Light[]

Demonstrating profound reverence, he pays great respect to the Elder by bowing in greeting and dutifully obeying his every command. However, a moment of misfortune occurs when Tom inadvertently redirects one of Shadow's powerful blasts, inadvertently striking the Elder. In response, the Father Night Light swiftly launches an assault on Tom, instinctively defending his leader by lashing out with his razor-sharp claws. Despite the accident, the Father Night Light perceives Tom as a threat, believing his actions to be intentional and motivated by a desire to cause harm.

His Mate[]

He loves his mate dearly and stays by her side at all costs.

Thunder[]

The profound affection that he harbors for his eldest son is evident as he experiences immense joy upon their long-awaited reunion. Overwhelmed with happiness, he expresses his emotions by tenderly nuzzling Thunder, a heartfelt gesture that signifies their reconnection after a significant period of separation.

Shadow, Goggles, and Splattertail[]

He loves all his younger children, and does all he can to protect them, even from strangers like the Dragon Club riders and other dragons.

D'Angelo Baker[]

Thunder's Father and D'Angelo

Thunder's Father warming up to D'Angelo.

At first, the father acted aggressively due to no human contact. But D'Angelo noticed the scratch on the dragon's left shoulder, and he rubbed an ointment on it to treat it. He roared when it stung him at first, but then he calmed down when it felt better. Thus, it showed he was slowly warming up to the boy.

In Ragnarok part 1 and 2, after being injured Jörmungandr, D'Angelo treated his wounds.

The Rest of the Dragon Club Riders[]

At first, he acted aggressively due to no contact with humans. But he slowly warmed up to them once he realized they were friends with his sons and not their enemies.

Trivia[]

  • The scar on Father Night Light's shoulder may be from the Titan Wing Skrill that drove them from their home and separated Thunder from his family.
  • It is possible that the Father Night Light is the son of the Elder Night Light, and was worried when the Elder was accidentally stunned by Shadow's blast and tried protecting him.
  • The Father not hardly having a tail fin means that Night Lights may not need tail fins to fly anymore.
