The Evolved Scuttleclaw is a small Sharp Class dragon that first appeared in Dragons: The Nine Realms.
Physical Appearance[]
Hatchling to Adult[]
Despite retaining its ancestors' physical build, the Evolved Scuttleclaw has a variety of defining traits that set it aside as a new species.
As of Dragons: The Nine Realms, the Scuttleclaw has developed large ear-like fins on the sides of its head. It is possible that these new frills expand from extra-cervical vertebrae that helps amplify their calls, similar to the Death Song. Evolved Scuttleclaws have vibrant yellow and green bodies, and their heads and feet are salmon pink. The topsides of their wings are a dark, orange-tinted red, with bright, yellow-ringed purple spots, and the undersides are dappled violet. They have purple spinal knobs and scales erratically scattered across their bodies. Their eyes are lime green.
Abilities[]
Endurance and Stamina[]
As with their predecessors, the babies are hyperactive and playful, being able to run around and play tirelessly. They can remain unscathed after hitting their heads in crystals or falling from a certain height.
Stealth[]
Thanks to their small size, Evolved Scuttleclaws can easily sneak around without being noticed.
Intelligence[]
As shown in the episode "Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dragons", Scuttleclaws are intelligent dragons. The evolved Scuttleclaw knew to use its high-pitched screams to provoke other dragons into fighting each other while it ate the treats left by the Dragon Riders.
Evolution[]
Silent Piercing Screams[]
In Dragons: The Nine Realms, Scuttleclaws have evolved[1] and gained the ability to make high-pitched cries that most dragons can hear, but humans cannot, similar to that of a dog whistle. Similar to Hroar who enraged dragons with his chants and gestures, the dragons that had heard the high-pitched screams become enraged and fight each other. The Featherhides are shown to be the only dragons immune to the Scuttleclaws' screams and can counter them with their own.
Weaknesses[]
Trusting Nature[]
Evolved Scuttleclaws are completely unafraid of humans and will curiously approach them, despite the species' complete lack of contact with each other. A Hunter or Trapper could take advantage of this.
Featherhide Immunity[]
Featherhides are the only species shown to be unaffected by this Scuttleclaw’s high frequency screams. This may be because they are used to dealing with high frequency sounds. Their sonic blasts can also counter the Scuttleclaws' screams.
Muzzled Mouth[]
If an evolved Scuttleclaw’s mouth is clamped shut (like when Eugene used Webmaster's web blast to muzzle one individual), they can't produce their high-pitch screams, leaving them vulnerable.
Behavior and Personality[]
Similar to the Scuttleclaws of the past they possess a rambunctious and playful personality. They are unafraid of humans, possibly caused by their lack of human interaction. They have endless energy, and will often bite inanimate objects, chase their own tails, and interact with their reflections. They are curious and very trusting and will approach and follow any creature they find interesting without fear.
Training[]
Evolved Scuttleclaws are extremely easy to train, especially as juveniles and due to the lack of contact with humans. They don't seem to mind if someone is holding them and they will follow you if you can get their attention.

Season 5[]
Scuttleclaws reside in the Crystal Realm and have undergone evolution that gave them fin-like ears and a piercing cry that most dragons can hear.[1]
In "Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dragons", when trying to convince Olivia that the hidden world is safe, the Dragon Riders gather friendly and docile dragons they know don't pose any threats. However, Eugene decides to wrangle a Scuttleclaw, despite not knowing anything about it. When he brought it, the others weren't too thrilled, but since Tom and Olivia would be arriving soon, they had no choice but make it a part of the tour. However, because of the little dragon's silent screaming ability, it causes the other dragons to go nuts. As it continued to do so, it eventually made all the dragons there go into a crazed state due to the screaming bothering their hearing. However, the riders notice this and take action to stop it from screaming by having Feathers drown out the noise with her sonic blast and Webmaster web its mouth shut. Tom then orders Eugene to fix his mess and take the Scuttleclaw back to where he found it.
Season 6[]
In "Dragons Everywhere!", Scuttleclaws are one of the many dragons that fled to ICARIS due to Sledkin and Linda provoking Deadly Nadders for their Dragonsite in the nest, which made them chase off other dragons out of the Hidden World. However, after placing fake eels everywhere, they, along with the rest of the dragons, returned back into the Hidden World.
In "Undercover", when Jun and D'Angelo bring Sledkin into the Hidden World, they encounter a Scuttleclaw in which D'Angelo states that they're screaming ability makes dragons go nuts, so Sledkin secretly recorded their silent screaming noise. She then uses the recording to experiment on two stolen Terrible Terrors to make them blast fire at a sample of Dragonsite.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown whether this Scuttleclaw species was present during Viking times.
- In one scene during "Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dragons", the Evolved Scuttleclaw's purple spines and markings turn lime green. This was never addressed and may have been accidental.
