Eagles are birds of prey mentioned very nominally in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise.

Description[]

Though there is no specific taxonomic designation just for eagles, the approximately 60 different species are found in a number of Genuses in the Family Accipitridae. They are considered the largest birds of Prey, other than some Condor and Vulture species. Eagles primarily inhabit Europe and Africa, but a few species are also found in North and South America, and Australia. Eagles generally have large, board wings and are excellent fliers and soarers. They are also known to take very large prey, sometimes outweighing themselves. Most eagle species are the top predators in their respective environments.

Several species of eagles live in Scandinavia including the wide-spread Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the White-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), and the Greater-spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga).

Function[]

Within the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise, eagles are only mentioned as metaphors for certain situations.

In reality, eagles are revered in many cultures around the world for their strength, flight, and regal bearing. Eagles do appear in Viking mythology. There is an eagle often depicted sitting atop Yggdrasil, the world tree. The giant Jotunn, Hraesvelgr, is able to turn into an eagle.
