How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. is an American animation studio based in Glendale, California that creates animated feature films, television programs, and online virtual worlds. It is now owned by Universal Studios through its parent company NBCUniversal.

They are the creators of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise which is loosely based on the How to Train Your Dragon book series.

History[]

They have released a total of twenty-eight feature films, including the franchises of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs. Aliens, and How to Train Your Dragon. As of June 2013, its feature films have made $11 billion worldwide, with its $430 million average gross surpassing all other studios besides Pixar ($607 million). Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third are among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time, and fourteen of the films are among the 50 highest-grossing animated films, with Shrek 2 being the sixth all-time highest. Even though the studio also made traditionally-animated films earlier, as well as a co-production with Aardman Animations, the creators of Wallace & Gromit, all of their films now use computer-animation. The studio has so far received two Academy Awards (Shrek in 2001 and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005), and one Golden Globe Award along with numerous Annie & Emmy Awards; as well as multiple Golden Globe & BAFTA nominations. In recent years the animation studio has acquired and created new divisions in an effort to diversify beyond the high-risk movie business.

In 2016, DreamWorks Animation was sold to NBC Universal for $3.8 billion USD, and DWA's CEO and co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg instead became chairman of DreamWorks News Media.

Dreamworks Jr.[]

Dreamworks Animation officially launched Dreamworks Jr. in 2019 to provide content for an even younger audience. Dragons: Rescue Riders was created to target the young child demographic, as well as many other titles including Archibald's Next Big Thing, and Gabby's Dollhouse.
