Dragon Proof Metal is a metal alloy developed by the Dragon Hunters to contain dragons.

Info[]

This metal is used to contain dragons as it is impervious to dragon fire, even the plasma blasts of a Night Fury or the magnesium fire of a Deadly Nadder. It is also impossible for dragons to use their teeth or claws to break, and it can withstand weapons made of Gronckle Iron. It is turquoise in color. Its composition is unknown, although in development concept arts for Race to the Edge, it is labeled as oxidized copper. However, this was never stated in the franchise, and some have surmised that it's likely more than just that.

Dragon Hunters use this metal to build cages and chains to contain and transport captured dragons. They also make some of their weapons from the metal, as during the war between the Hunters and the Dragon Riders of Berk, the Hunters massively increased their use of the metal, first making their chains and winches out of it before also lining the hulls of their ships with the metal. The use of it in ships without making the boat sink means it is very lightweight. They later constructed a boat that is entirely made of dragon-proof metal. The alloy is also used to create weapons as some Dragon Hunters' axes and Ryker's swords appears to be the same material of the Dragon Hunter's dragon-proof cages.

Weaknesses[]

Despite being impervious to dragon fire, some dragons can still break through it:

  • Hotburples have strong jaws they can use to tear the doors off of dragon proof cages.
  • Changewing acid is capable of melting through the metal.
  • Gronckles can break through the metal using a special technique developed by Dagur the Deranged and his dragon Shattermaster. The technique is named the "Shatter Scatter" and involves the Gronckle launching itself at the metal tail first, smashing through the metal and leaving the dragon unharmed due to its thick hide.
  • A Buffalord's inflation ability produces a huge amount of pressure on the metal bars of a dragon proof cage, allowing for it to break out.
  • A Razorwhip’s tail is sharp enough to slice through it.
  • The Riders also eventually discover that, although the metal may be impervious to any one dragon species' fire, the combined fire of their five different dragons can destroy it. In the episode "Loyal Order of Ingerman", it has been shown that the lava blasts of a Gronckle followed by a magnesium blast from a Deadly Nadder can shatter and destroy the metal. Dramillions, which possess the ability to mimic the dragon fire of any other dragon, have learned to destroy the metal by mimicking blasts from a Gronckle and a Deadly Nadder. However they are shown to do it separately.
